About this listing
Historic Sugar Hill brownstone located right next to the subway. Wake up in a quiet, leafy bedroom, eat breakfast overlooking the bustling Harlem street, and get to almost any wonderful spot in Manhattan in under thirty minutes. Family friendly too!
Straight ahead from the foyer (furniture has been rearranged, currently a green rug down rather than beige.)
Historic Sugar Hill duplex apartment; private entrance with your own full bathroom and kitchen access. I am also fully Landlady Approved!
This is a large, old-but-lovely apartment in a landmarked building on Sugar Hill. It has everything you need to enjoy your visit.
THE BEDROOM has a full sized bed with TWO mattresses. If you wish to sleep up to four people there, we place the second mattress on the floor and provide all linens.
THE LIVING ROOM also has a full-sized real bed stacked with two mattresses. Again, if you wish to sleep up to four people in that room, the second mattress can be moved onto the floor and all beds will be furnished with linens.
---Large foyer suitable for all your luggage.
---Complete bathroom with bathtub.
---Complete kitchen including refrigerator, stove, pots, pans, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster.
---Tables and chairs to eat in.
---Huge living room with shared computer, full sized bed, and space for the extra mattress or an air mattress on the floor (included.)
---DEDICATED WIFI/internet. (Note, no TV, other than Hulu, etc.)
---Big bedroom with full sized bed, plus room on the floor for another person on another mattress, if needed.
---All towels and bedding are included.
---One floor walk up.
*The apartment is full of windows and is kept as clean as a very old building can be. There are no pests and no animals resident. I live here too (right upstairs), and that's how I want it to stay.
*Also, while this apartment CAN sleep six (or maybe even more, if you really need) after four adults it begins to be a bit small. It's a GREAT deal for a large family traveling on a budget, but I suggest managing your expectations if you're looking for a place to sleep six adults. You'll all have a soft safe place to sleep, though. :)
And please do check out my reviews!
You also have access to upstairs if you need to store your bags somewhere after checkout. Also, New York City can be overwhelming. If you're looking for suggestions on how to make the best use of your time/budget, just ask! I have a whole write-up I'd be more than happy to send you.
Interaction with Guests
I mop and vacuum and wash all linens and dust before each visitor, but please note that the place is OLD and there are stains on the floor that I cannot fix. Nevertheless, it is clean, and if there is anything I can do to make your stay more comfortable, I live upstairs (where if you have need you also have access), and I am almost always around. I truly want you to enjoy your visit.
C'mon, you guys... ONLY a 4.5 star location?! ;) The conversations I've had just hanging out on my stoop are some of my greatest New York City experiences, and you will be welcomed to the same. There are also some wonderful restaurants and pubs nearby, and much cheaper than downtown. I've lived here for over a year and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
That said, don't be surprised if you see some scruffy characters--they sometimes help me carry my laundry bags across the street. :) There is also a homeless guy named Tony who lives on my stoop. The whole neighborhood takes care of him and he wishes everyone a "god blessed day" every day, as an added bonus. There is also a police station in the subway station next-door, for an extra sense of security.
Street parking is free and easier to find than in other parts of Manhattan. You do have to move on certain days for the street sweeper, and there is an $18/night parking garage nearby if you'd prefer to park indoors or you really can't find parking for some reason.
Next door to the A/B/C/D express subway station (no noise, it's deep underground.) Walk ten feet and zip downtown:
-One stop (10 minutes) to Columbia-Presbyterian or Yankee Stadium
-Two stops (12 minutes) to Central Park/Lincoln Center/Columbus Circle.
-Three stops to Times Square.
-Four stops to Penn Station/Empire State Building.
-Five stops to Greenwich Village.
-Six stops to West Village
-Seven stops Chinatown/Soho.
-Eight stops (32 minutes) to Financial District/WTC/Statue of Liberty Ferry
All of these, you step out in the middle of the action.
Other Things to Note
Please note that $89 is a price I usually offer if I have last minute vacancies. Prices vary by season and day of the week, but I do try to sneak in some good deals here in there, just for fun. :)
Please wash the dishes.
Leave the house as close as possible as how you found it.
No smoking indoors.
The landlady is fine with this arrangement, so please help me keep this space available by being respectful of the neighbors.
Please enjoy the place and if you have any problems or needs, make sure to ask! I want you to be happy with your stay. :)
A conveniently located apartment, a short subway ride from everywhere.
It had everything that we needed and was a perfect base for exploring New York.
We loved staying here! Christmas was a fantastic host and was more than willing to help us out and work with us whenever we needed! thoroughly enjoyed the place itself and the area is great. The apartment has everything you need plus there are shops and a laundromat right across the street. With the subway right next door we felt comfortable coming back late on the subway. Would definitely recommend staying here if you want easy access to midtown but don't want the hassle and chaos of the staying there.
Christy was so sweet and accomodating. Her place was just as described and felt very "homey". She lives upstairs- she welcomed us graciously and was there for any needs.. even brought us some coffee, tequila and limes! Nice to be next door to the subway. Thank you Christy for your hospitality!

About the Host, Christy
I'm a New Yorker going on eight years now, and I love my city and my neighborhood! I'm originally from Northern California, which means most people find me laid back and friendly. Because I use AirBnB as a traveler, it's very important to me to make sure you feel like you've had an honest interaction and received a good deal for the money spent.
I've traveled all over North America, Central America, Australia, and South East Asia, mostly on my own, so I know and respect the difficulties of traveling on a budget, especially as a woman. If you're staying at my place, I'll do everything I can to make sure you feel safe and comfortable. If I'm staying at yours, you can bet I'll leave it in as good shape as I found it, or better.
I appreciate the AirBnB community!
