  • Foodtown

Great little local grocery store. Lots of Dominican options, and absolutely everything you need. Right across the street!

Saint Nicholas Avenue New York NY 10031
  • Branson Got Juice Inc

Fresh juices, wheatgrass juice, healthy sandwiches, right next door. I particularly like the Green Harlem. Pricey tho!

St Nicholas Ave New York NY 10031
  • P & M Pizza & Restaurant

I had no idea that we had pizza this good in the neighborhood. It's cheap, huge, delicious, and delivery's free!

Amsterdam Ave # 1 New York NY 10031
  • Convent Avenue Baptist Church

A great place for your Sunday morning. Known for their excellent gospel singing. Please understand this is a longstanding community treasure, and a house of worship, and go with respect.

West 144th Street New York NY 10031
  • Coco Delicioso

The first sign of summer in uptown are the little silver Coco Delicioso carts, which you'll always find on the street here. $1 for a dixie cup with coconut and cherry ice. Only in uptown NYC! So good!

W 145th St New York NY
  • Jackie Robinson Swimming Pool

One of the original great Public Works pools. Huge, with a little water park. Very family, and best of all FREE!

Saint Nicholas Ave New York NY 10030
  • Tonalli Cafe Bar

Everyone loves the French toast. Early(ish) brunch on the weekends. Outdoor seating. Stay in Harlem! We love it here!

    Broadway New York NY 10031-2501
  • Jesus Taco

You are so lucky you can eat at Jesus Taco. They're cheap, quick, and super delicious. They deliver for free over $8, and everything, right down to the tortillas, is made from scratch.

Amsterdam Avenue New York NY 10031
  • Starbucks

Our closest Starbucks. Clean, lots of space to sit and work if you decide you don't want to use the wifi at home.

West 145th Street New York NY 10039
  • The Chipped Cup

Really nice little coffee shop. Has a garden in the back. Cozy seating inside.

    New York NY 10031
  • Harlem Public

Basically the best pub in the whole city. Wood burning fireplace. Kid friendly during the day. Great beer selection. Open front windows to sit in on sunny days. Amazing BLT. AMAZING. Gets crowded!

    Broadway New York NY 10031
  • Pathmark

The closest large grocery store. Cheaper and closer than Whole Foods, but you will actually walk less if you go to Whole Foods.

    W 145th St New York NY 10039-3142
  • Jimbo's Hamburger Palace

Our favorite seedy diner in the area. You can sit at the counter and watch the guys sling entrees from one end to the other. Super cheap, and great if you like this kinda thing.

    W 145th St New York NY 10031
  • Mountain Bird

Excellent tiny restaurant. French food made by a Japanese couple at Harlem prices. A group of four can eat, with apps, plus two bottles of wine for ~$150. A treasure of uptown.

    W 145th St New York NY 10039
  • Margie's Red Rose Diner LLC

Amazing fried whiting. VERY slow. But if you're looking for fried fish, this is MUCH tastier than that fish place next door that smells so good.
Definitely call ahead with your order.

West 144th Street New York NY 10030
  • The Grange Bar & Eatery

Pricey but a nice location with fancy drinks, if you want something a little less hectic than Harlem Public.

Amsterdam Avenue New York NY 10031
  • Riverbank State Park

There is a restaurant/bar here called Tian which serves sushi rolls for $6 and has a four hour happy hour most days, plus great views of the Hudson and the GWB. Slow service, but cool.

Riverside Drive New York NY 10031
  • Bill's Place

BYOB to the speakeasy where Billie Holliday was discovered. Still hosting great live jazz on the weekends for a cover charge. A wonderful uptown evening.

West 133rd Street New York NY 10030-3300
  • Dinosaur Bar-B-Que

Don't go here. Guidebooks recommend it reflexively, but the portions are tiny, and the food is relatively bland and expensive.

W 125th St New York New York 10027
  • Manna's Soul Food & Salad Bar

SOUL FOOD @ 126th. Buffet style. Harlem classic. Fried chicken to die for. Don't miss the collards, banana pudding, or "half and half" (half iced tea and half lemonade.) Fast, cheap-ish, and amazing!

8th Ave New York NY 10027
  • El Mundo of Amsterdam

There are actually a bunch of these and the closest is up at 147th on Broadway. This is a great place to get any incidentals at "normal" non-NYC-marked-up prices. Like Chinatown for us up-towners.

Amsterdam Avenue New York NY 10033
  • New Leaf Restaurant & Bar

If the hustle of NYC is getting you down, DON'T miss the Cloisters at Fort Tryon. Beautiful views, very cool medieval art, and peace. Also this lovely restaurant, which sells glorious hot chocolate.

Margaret Corbin Drive New York NY 10040-3761
  • Whole Foods Market

One easy Whole Foods to get to. Great Salad Bar and ready-to-eat stuff, too.

Columbus Avenue New York NY 10025
  • The Cloisters Museum and Gardens

Such a strange and magical place. Get there by subway. Take the elevator up or you'll get lost. Walk through the park and enjoy the mysterious peacefulness that soaks the Cloisters.

Margaret Corbin Drive New York NY 10040
  • Inwood Local (I.L.), at 4957 Broadway

This is a great place to go if you decide to explore uptown of here. Brunch starts at noon but is wonderful. $22 for a carafe of mimosas. Great beer selection. Try the beer float or Kobe burger.

    Broadway New York NY 10034
  • Baked by Melissa

You may be under the impression you need to get cupcakes while you're in New York. These are the most fun. Tiny, and stuffed with fun fillings.

Broadway New York New York 10012
  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art

A fun bar that's only open in the summer, great for visitors. They always have a neat art installation going. The Met is entrance by donation, so you can get up there for 25 cents if you want.

    East 82nd Street NY 10028
  • Olympic Flame Diner

BRUNCH! Rarely a wait. Classic diner with really delicious, reasonably priced, large portions. You can walk it off in Central Park afterward, too.

    W 60th Street New York NY 10023-8502
  • Whole Foods Market

In the basement of the Time Warner Building. Might actually be faster and with less walking than the one at 97th, because the express train is right outside.

    New York NY 10019
  • Magnolia Bakery

Don't even dream of getting their cupcakes here. They're awful and overhyped. Go to Sunshine or get Baked by Melissa instead.

    New York NY 10014
  • Blue Ribbon

Considered the best seafood in town. The place celebrity chefs go after they get off their shifts. Make reservations. If you're not into seafood, their baked goods and bone marrow are excellent.

Sullivan St New York New York 10012
