The furnished studio apartment is located in a nice neighborhood just 5 mints from tourist center of Thamel. The apartment is in the top of 3 storied building and has private balcony.
This is studio apartment with private balcony with garden. It has got en-suite bathroom and toilet. The apartment has got double-bed, 1 private bath (solar-heated shower and toilet), 1 clothes closet, 1 fully furnished kitchenette with sink, small refrigerator, cabinet space, and 1-burner stove. The property is in the residential area in 'Rayamajhi Marg'. Banks, grocery stores and local transportation are all in easy access. The neighborhood is relatively quiet as there are houses of relatives and it is off the main road. The apartment for rental is in the top floor of the 3 stories building with great view and private balcony.
We are 2 km from world heritage sites of Kathmandu Durbar Square (south) and Swyambhunath Stupa (west). The popular restaurants and bars of Thamel (tourist center) are in walking distance. Nagarjuna forest. 2.5 km north of the apartment makes a pleasant day hike.
We are implementing Eco -friendly measures for garbage disposal, rain water harvest and roof top gardening. We have compost bin for bio-degradable garbage. We can use compost in the rooftop garden.
Instead of inverter or generator, we use solar back up during the power shortage. We are initiating these Eco-friendly measures in the neighborhood as well.
We are off the main road but still public transportation and taxis are available in the main street / squares (50 - 200 m). The world Heritage sites like Kathmandu, Durbar Square and Swyambhunath is about half an hour walk away.
We also have spare scooter that guests can rent out on the weekly basis.
The studio is appropriate for 1 person. But several time, couple have lived comfortably. We have got double bed. Having additional guest costs US $ 5 / night extra.
There will be two sets of bed-liners and covers. Laundryman can come and collect laundry. Laundry is not included in the price. It costs you about USD 1 / kg.
We provide gas heater but it costs you US $ 18 for the gas cylinder.
Please smoke only in privacy - in the balcony.
Please respect local custom. Neighbors are all relatives and are very friendly and hospitable.
Rabi and Kopila and their family were great hosts, both welcoming and accommodating. Despite that Kopila actually gave birth during my stay! (Congratulations once again, by the way, on the arrival of your son!)
The studio is as described/pictured in the listing, and is located just a short walk outside Thamel, providing all the convenience of the tourist area but with a more authentic Kathmandu experience.
Some specifics: The kitchen is basic, but functional. The foam mattress is comfy. The apt. is windowed on all sides, so gets tons of natural light. My favorite feature, though, is the oversized terrace, which proved a great place to read, relax and/or just enjoy a cup of tea.
One tip, not just for the apartment but for Kathmandu in general: as the city has a stray dog problem, it's advisable to bring some foam earplugs with you. Because once one of the dogs gets barking, it can become like a K-9 choir.
My stay at Kopila's home was much more than a home-stay. From the preparation period building up to my arrival in Kathmandu, Kopila and her husband Rabi were extremely punctual and helpful with details on the facilities, the neighborhood, the sights of Kathmandu, the travel options, airport collection, and the costs. Once I arrived in Kathmandu, I found the studio to be exactly as it is described in the profile. It is located very conveniently on the fringes of Thamel, in a local residential neighborhood, within walking distance from Durbar Square, Thamel, and other fascinating attractions of Kathmandu. Furthermore, Kopila and Rabi have all the knowledge of and experience with tours, rentals, excursions, transport, flight tickets etc that a traveller could want. It was therefore very easy to put together a fascinating 10-day program at the lowest cost possible. Rabi and Kopila are not pushy at all when it comes to these opportunities. They simply outline the options and the costs, and leave it to the traveller to 'take it or leave it'. On most days I was out of the studio from very early morning (mountain flights, Nagarkot) until late evenings, but when possible, Kopila and Rabi invited me for breakfast and/or dinner. A great way to learn more about the local living standards and conditions, and to hear their fascinating life stories. Rabi is very knowledgeable on the history and the culture of Nepal, and has many stories that he loves to relate in perfect English. At no point in time did I sense a lack of safety or security, it was perfectly fine to come and go at any time of day or night in this neighborhood, and taxis are also very easy to find (and very low-cost) in case of a very late arrival. I can not recommend this host family highly enough. They have been outstanding hosts for me, and I encourage everyone who wishes to have a personal touch to their stay in Nepal to get in touch with Kopila and Rabi - it doesn't get much more authentic than this. Oh, and they have a lovely daughter Anna, and a new baby on the way !
My sincere thanks to Kopila and Rabi for making my Nepal adventure a true life experience.
The apartment is very comfortable and clean with a lovely balcony. It was an oasis of calm only a 10 minute walk from Thamel. We are aware that it can be different sometimes due to power cuts but electricity and WiFi were perfect for our stay. We had a wonderful stay in Kopila's apartment.
Kopila ans her husband did everything they could to ensure we had a good stay in their country.
Including bringing me to visit her work which was similar to mine and treating us to a fantastic Nepalese feast on our last night in their home.
Kopila was great at communicating with me before my arrival and she made me feel very welcome at her place. The apartment is as described and it's a short walk from Thamel. The neighbourhood is very family oriented and there are no foreigners around so that's nice. It is a sweet haven to come back to after spending the day out as the city is very tiring! The nearest taxi stand is a 3 - 4 minute walk away at the nearest main intersection, so I'd just walk down there if I wanted to go out somewhere. It's a very relaxing, quiet, friendly and family atmosphere. Kopila is a really nice woman, she gets the balance just right between looking after you and giving you space too so you feel like the place is your own. I would stay here again if I return!
REally liked this studio apartment, basic but not so small you want to run out….everything i needed, small gas stove for cooking & fridge. Power cuts mean that lights run on generator & internet goes down but manageable! local area so pretty safe & a torch comes in handy! I returned as they kindly stored my stuff i didnt want to haul around Tibet for a week. Made me very welcome although i didn't have that nepalese meal Kopila offered as my food sensitivities are ridiculous with spices etc…Great view from rooftop & sofa on a small terrace which i loved!!
Everything was even better than expected! The apartment is gorgeous and clean. The rooftop patio has amazing views! Kopila and her husband were more than helpful, going above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed.

I am an academician running a small preschool in in the neighborhood with two other partners. My home has a studio apartment that I have been renting out to travelers and volunteers. I am trying to be an example in the neighborhood by taking Eco-friendly measures. So I produce as less garbage as possible. Make my own compost and do rooftop gardening, use solar power. Hosting foreign guests supports me financially to sustain my Eco-friendly lifestyle. As well as I can get more ideas from cultural exchange.
