What to do
The first ranking département after Paris for the number of historic monuments, Calvados offers a wealth of edifices bearing witness to major and less familiar historical events alike.
Sites and monuments
Calvados, town and country, reunites art and history amidst its Pays d'Auge manor houses, fortified Bessin farmsteads, famous abbeys, Renaissance châteaux and medieval castles, churches and cathedrals.
You will of course find some of the best known museums here - the Bayeux Tapestry, the Caen Memorial and the D-Day Landing Museum at Arromanches. However, why not try some of the lesser known such as the museums of miniature furniture, automated models or the Satie houses - just a few of the attractions guaranteed to interest, entertain and intrigue!
Parks and gardens
In keeping with the changing moods and light of Normandy's skies, the parks and gardens in Calvados offer a wide variety of style and content: historic or modern, botanical or landscaped, bizarre or wild.
William the Conqueror
The epic adventure or the fascinating and tumultuous story of the bastard who became Duke of Normandy and King of England. A historical journey following William's own footsteps, via Falaise, Caen, Bayeux and the many other sites where he left his mark.
Battle of Normandy
Freedom made its way to France via the Normandy beaches one June morning in 1944. A genuine open-air museum, the Battle of Normandy Historical Area reunites all of the sites and places of remembrance related to this important page in history and the battle that was to follow.
Gourmet visits, small-scale or industrial production: Calvados' businesses open their doors.
The Orne estuary and the Sallenelles bay, the Bessin cliffs and the Dives marshes, the Cotentin and Bessin marshland regional natural park: just a few of the sites where nature has been allowed free rein.
Depicting Calvados is simply describing the many daily pleasures Normandy has to offer.
Easy access from train station, airport and road.
Bus (Twisto) lines 2 (Venoix / Mémorial), 21 (Chemin Vert / Guérinère) and 3 (Carpiquet / Gare SNCF / Colombelles) at 100 m.
Bike station (Veol) at 100 m.
Parking is free in a street near the flat.
Non smoking flat.
Pets aren't allowed.
We had a great time at this apartment. It was quite smile, but it worked perfect for us. I'd recommend it for one person or a couple. The bed wasn't very comfortable, but it wasn't too bad. The kitchen had everything we needed-silverware, bowls, salt, etc. The location is really nice, lots of great restaurants and close to the downtown. Just be aware that it is far from the tram line and the buses don't run often on the weekend, so leave yourself plenty of time to get around if you're going past downtown. Overall it was really nice, easy to find and get into. We never saw Louis, but he responded quickly when we had questions.
Appartement bien situé et sympathique. Une cuisine bien équipée, comme le reste de l'appartement. Propriétaire très sympathique et arrangeant !
My partner & i stayed in this cute clean & cozy flat for 14 nights. We didn't meet Louis but he was very quick to email back with any answers we needed. When we arrived there had been some basic food to get us started and we were able to make some breakfast and there was also a bottle of Normandie wine! The room is small but they have utilised the space well, wifi worked great & the kitchen had everything we needed to be able to cook.
The location was great for us and even though there was bus stops close by we found it easier to just walk everywhere! There is a awesome little pub right on the corner with free wifi, a pizza place & a great kebab shop where we got takeaway food a couple times while we were there. There is also a little supermarket a little further up the road. The best thing though was the laundry mat right next to the building, it was very handy! The train station was 20mins walk & we found that a lot of little parks and the canals that had free wifi.
The only negatives were not having towels included, only because its hard lugging around two towels while travelling, the stairs up to the room & we got bitten by mosquitos or something during the night because we had to leave the windows open as it was summer. Other than that we were very comfy there & it was easy to find. Thank you very much Louis!
