About this listing
We bought this 1948 home in December 2013 and renovated the upper apartment to make it bright, airy and comfortable for visitors to Lexington. We think this and its location to Lexington's growing downtown scene has helped make it such a success.
Our listing is the second floor of a c.1948 home that was renovated with vacation rentals in mind. It is easy to clean, comfortable, and close to Lexington's entertainment centers.
The garden is incredible. Not being talented gardeners ourselves, we feel incredibly lucky that a landscape architect rented one of the apartments for several years before we bought the house in December, 2013. He spent several thousand hours and hundreds of dollars creating an English garden of winding paths and full, lush beds. It is peaceful and a piece of paradise right downtown. All we had to do was dig it since he had moved out and it was neglected for several years.
The furnishings have been culled from area estate sales over the past year. The resulting look is a contemporary renovation, with vintage furnishings.
My husband and I have spent a few nights there when our own home is rented, and have absolutely loved it. I am confident our guests will too!
Here are initial comments from our very first guest:
"Teri, Ok the house is so sweet charming, immaculate and comfy - my bed was really comfy. The hard wood floors, the trim around all the doors and windows and subway tiles in the shower-very cool. Sent from my iPhone"
The access is from a set of steps on the back of the home. We have installed security lights that, along with those owned by our neighbor, keep visitors in light the entire path behind the house. Our driveway leads to the steps.
Interaction with Guests
Interaction will vary. We live only a few houses down from the home and love to meet our guests. We own other historic properties in Lexington and occasionally a guest will request a tour, which we are always happy to oblige. Other guests prefer more privacy and that is fine too.
The property is conveniently located within walking distance of all of Lexington's downtown attractions including Rupp Arena, restaurants, shopping and the Explorium of Lexington (Lexington Children's Museum). An easy two block walk gets you to Jefferson Street, a renovated entertainment district of bars, breweries and restaurants. Or, visitors could make a quick 7-10 minute drive to the up-and-coming Distillery District, Lexington's newest entertainment district.
Not really, but it's not necessary in order to get around downtown. There is free parking on the street in front of the property.
The property is an easy 20 minutes from Bluegrass Field.
No smoking in the apartment. We have a tenant who lives downstairs so please limit the noise after 11:00pm.
