The sea, the sea. It sings, shouts, whispers to you if you can find a place to listen. The place is here.
This house sits above a Marine Sanctuary approximately 20 kilometres south of Bateman's Bay on the far South Coast of NSW. It is surrounded by pristine wilderness, above a private beach to the south and the beautiful Rosedale Beach to the north. Dolphins live in the pristine waters at the base of the cliff and, in the season, whales calve metres from the house. The sea eagles nest in the neighbouring spotted gum forest, a protected National Park. Cormorants, shags, sooty oyster catchers and those long, lanky grey birds with pointed snouts guard the rocks and the beach below. They all tolerate the lazy seals.
The architecture is minimalist. Floor to ceiling glass walls open onto decks above the ocean. The extensive living/dining and kitchen areas are filled with northern light all day and at night are heated by a large built in fireplace.
The chef's kitchen is fully equipped with Miele appliances, dishwasher and fridge. The adjacent dining area seats twelve. Two steps up, in the open living space, large luxurious sofas and lounge chairs offer safe harbour to the dreamers.
There are two bedrooms upstairs with queen size beds. Downstairs there are two more bedrooms, one with a queen sized bed and the other with a king size bed and a huge ensuite bathroom. There is also a library room/study downstairs with a fold out bed.
In all there are three bathrooms and a laundry room, the latter with a Miele washing machine and dryer.
The surrounding beaches are deserted except for the abundant bird life and the occasional rambler, and are safe for ocean swimming. The area is famous for its bushwalking.
Moruya airport, twenty kilometres to the south, has daily flights to Sydney.

The house comes fully equipped with linen, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, books and music. For most of the year it is my home. Please treat it as you would your own home. I don't wear shoes inside; nor does the dog. Please respect the wildlife. It is, after all, a sanctuary, for you, for me and for them.
The house cannot accommodate more than 9 people
Guests are asked to respect the house and its contents. It is not to be used for parties, functions or other group gatherings.
Smoking is not permitted inside the house.
Patrick was there to greet us and took us through the place explaining as we went. The neighbourhood was quiet and calm
The house was a dream and Patrick is a generous host. The photos don't lie. I wish we had booked a fortnight.
The 6 of us who stayed for the weekend all agreed both the house and the location - perched on a cliff overlooking the beach and ocean - were stunning. Great walks on adjacent beaches.
The kitchen is big enough for group meal making - and the deck outside has a great place to eat.
Communication and arrangements were prompt and clear.
Overall, a great experience.
A retired dreamer, I live in this property for most of the year learning to be astonished at the wildlife whose country this is. I travel for two or three months of the year and am happy to share my little piece of paradise with others.
