About this listing
Owned and built by a Scandinavian designer, this stunning, sun-filled south-facing, luxury canal-side triplex overlooking Notting Hill and far beyond the city... includes a wonderful, 20-foot-high penthouse loft with a "floating" bedroom platform
Spectacular sun-filled south-facing luxury canal-side triplex overlooking Notting Hill and far beyond which includes a wonderful, 20-foot-high, penthouse loft with floating bedroom platform. Owned and built by a Scandinavian designer, this ultra-stylish but quiet and very cozy and romantic apartment has been crafted with wit and love and has never previously been rented except for the occasional fashion shoot. Sleeping up to ten persons, the apartment has great transport links, free wifi and unlimited telephone calls to the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom.
A private entrance and mural-decorated staircase leads up to the higher floors of a red brick Victorian house. On the lower floor there are a total of three bedrooms, one with its own south-facing balcony overlooking the canal and Meanwhile Gardens (a small nature reserve), the other has the same view but without the balcony and the master bedroom is complete with en suite bathroom. There is also another "family" bathroom on this floor. Both bathrooms have showers and jetted tubs.
Continuing up a further short flight of stairs, you emerge firstly into the fully-fitted kitchen with another balcony and a wonderfully positioned breakfast table from where you can lazily sip your coffee and enjoy the south-facing view over Notting Hill and the magnificent London skyline. Turn another corner and you are in the triplex's huge double-leveled penthouse loft with twin fireplaces. Seeing is believing. Part of it leads up to the roof terrace which is well lit and fitted with outdoor heater (for al fresco night-time winter reading ?).
A further part leads up to the gravity-defying floating bed and study in the attic space, from where you can laze and gaze forever, over your friends downstairs or the birds and boats on the canal, or just out over the amazing view. All nine windows are fitted with blinds, but seem to be rarely used. We wonder not why.
The house is located on a quiet Victorian street, some of whose houses, almost in secret back, onto the Grand Union canal. It is perfectly positioned for explorations all over the capital. A delightful short stroll along the canal takes you to the quaint café’s, antique and junk shops and market of the Golborne Road and Portobello Road that leads you in turn to Notting Hill.
A few minutes further in the opposite direction lay the broad avenues of Little Venice and Maida Vale with their own array of chic boutiques and restaurants. The nearest Underground Station is just three minutes away and a wide range of buses stop literally around the corner.
A five minute bus trip will get you to Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, and a fifteen minute one to either the theatres of the West End or to Camden Market, arguably the only genuine competitor to Portobello road for multi-cultural people-watching and wild street fashion.
Paddington station, two stops by tube or a few minutes by taxi has the non-stop Heathrow Express which takes twenty minutes to get to any terminal. By arrangement ‘a mini-cab’ can be sent to meet you at any of London’s four airports.
Payment may be made by credit card via Paypal, checks drawn on US or UK banks or wire transfer.
Please note that smoking is only allowed on the balconies and roof terrace. Please also note that the apartment is not suitable for unsupervised very small children. Some of the railings have been removed from the stairs for ascetic pleasure, rather than for safety, and the possibility of a fall will always exist for the ill-balanced or drunk!

The buses along Great Western Road (2 minutes walk from house) are fantastic and there aren't many parts of London you can't get to on one of the many services that run along this road.
Westbourne Park tube station is only 5 minutes walk away and by far the fastest way to get long distances across London.
This is a private and peaceful opportunity that I am offering to share with you. When you come to stay please be respectful of all that is offered and treat it within the bounds of normal social decency. If there is anything that is, within reason, an issue, please raise it immediately so I can rectify the matter. the house was very nice.
the location of the house very good and near of the under ground station.
The apartment was great for our group with easy access to underground and buses.
The communication was great.
Quiet neighborhood, wonderful location by the canal. Nice welcome the host.
A 5 min walk to nearest tubestation, 10 min to Portobello Road and Westborne Grove. Local foodshops and take away shops 3mins away.
We were 8 people, and all had a great time. Everything according to agreement. Great roof terrace overlooking the canal. Nice interior.
There were some initial problems communicating with Rowan (eg, he did not respond to a few repeated emails). But our in person contact, Peter, met us at the flat, was really friendly and and helped us get oriented. Overall, we loved staying at this flat with our four teenage children and it was a good value for the money in an expensive city. The living room is especially lovely to hang out in. It's a fairly unusual space with painted walls, a suspended loft and an artsy feel. Absolutely, definitely not for young children due to steep stairs, open railings and the loft space (which my teenage son loved). The neighborhood is a bit out of the way of London's main tourist sites, but the flat is very close to a tube stop. We did not find the location to be a problem. My two main complaints were that the flat was not super clean (the blinds were really dusty and we moved an extra futon on our floor and found crushed potato chips) and that many of the blinds were really broken. A few had no pull and had to be wound by hand (or could not be opened or closed) and a few had fallen off completely. I think these problems could be fixed really easily, but we definitely struggled to block out morning light.
We stayed over in Rowan's house for three days, a total of 8 people. The house was just as described and in the pics, really cosy and comfortable! All beds were very comfortable and we had no problems.
Athough we didn't get to meet Rowan, we met his friend, which showed us the house and was very prompt and available when we asked for extra mattress and blanket for two extra people. Check-in and check-out were smooth.
Location wise it was perfect for us as we had a tournament in the nearby Paddington Recreational PArk (15 min walk). Nearby there are supermarkets as well as couple of good cafes. Only two stops from Paddington station.
Overall we had a great stay and would definitely recommend this place to large groups as ours.
Very nice apartment with good location. Had some trouble communicating with landlord, but everything was fine once we got there. If you are a group of friends staying, note that the duvets are doubles, and not singels.

About the Host, Rowan
(I'm the one with the moustache by the way)
I love finding hidden gems in London... last weekend we discovered the best falafel wrap from a little stall on Golborne road (close to Portobello Road).. Mouthwatering (and actually not at all un-healthy!).
Whether its an off the wall indie coffee shop with a magical secret blend or a new exhibition at one of the amazing museums, there is just so much going on here it makes it a truly exciting place to be.
We have been hosting holiday-makers from all over the world for more than 5 years now and pride ourselves on the qualty of our homes and of our service (always with a smile and we like to think we are as accommodating as humanly possible).
We live in the same area as all of our properties and are bringing up our 2 children here. We love what we do and the fact that it gives us more time together as a family is a huge bonus.
If I'm not in London, I'm probably in the heart of mid-Wales, getting some mud on my boots and enjoying the lack of traffic and parking meters :)
Looking forward to hearing from you.
