Hey there! Are you looking for a spot to relax and distance yourselves from the rest of the world? Do you plan to help us be excellent stewards of Central Oregon? We’d love to have you! @deschutesriverhouse is located halfway between Sunriver and LaPine, 40 minutes from Mt. Bachelor and an easy 35-minute drive to Downtown Bend. Our vacation home sits at the edge of the river in a remote Bend neighborhood, steps away from LaPine State Park's miles of trails and river access.

The space
We hope you enjoy our home and treat it as your own. It’s a little bit ‘70s, a little bit updated and definitely cozy. We love to get out and explore the area by foot, bike, kayak, snowshoes and by car, but we also enjoy staying in and playing games, watching movies, reading, warming up by the fire and watching eagles circle overhead.

We have a large selection of games, puzzles, DVDs and also have high speed WiFi. There are smart TVs in the living room and kids’ room set up for you to log in to your own Netflix account.

Our kitchen is well stocked with spices, utensils and cooking appliances. Reach out if you have questions about what we have! We ask that you try to bring everything you need to cook meals in our home, so we do not stress local grocery stores during this pandemic.

We allow up to two well-behaved dogs to stay with you in our home. Please be sure they are kept off the furniture and beds, and aren’t left alone in the house without a crate. Pet waste must be picked up and thrown away outside. We charge a refundable pet deposit—see our house rules for details.

Our home is on a well with an excellent and frequently tested filtration system but the water may still have an odor or color to it. It’s safe to bathe in, cook with and drink, but you are welcome to use the Brita water dispenser provided in the fridge.

Please note that we have two exterior security cameras to help keep tabs on our house and the weather when we’re away.

Guest access
You'll have full access to our vacation home, minus any locked closets, cabinets or the detached garage. The three bedrooms, bathroom, washer and dryer, kitchen with multiple appliances and living room are available for your use.

Other things to note
Because our house is nestled along the river in the woods, there are a few things to keep in mind:

Our neighborhood and property are unpaved with an uneven dirt surface around our home and leading to the front door. If you have mobility limitations, this home may not be the best fit for you. Our “yard” is primarily made up of dirt, pine needles and pine cones.

There may be dust or pollen covering the outdoor furniture, porch and deck at various times of the year. Please feel free to wipe the furniture down for your use. Wet paper towels work great. Be aware of sap on outdoor furniture.

Some outdoor furniture is packed away during colder months and what is not packed away may have snow on it. There is a broom on the deck and a snow shovel on the porch for your use.

Our home is on a well with an excellent and frequently tested filtration system but the water may still have an odor or color to it. It’s safe to bathe in, cook with and drink, but you are welcome to use the Brita water dispenser provided in the fridge or you can bring your own drinking water.

We get critters inside from time to time. We keep a very tidy house but you may occasionally find bugs and we’ve even had an uninvited mouse or two try to call our place home. We keep up on the critter control, but sometimes they just move in too quickly. If this would be an issue for you, please have a look at other options on Airbnb for a getaway!

There are mosquitoes here, specifically in warm months. They can be thicker at night and you may encounter a lot if you go adventuring. We recommend you bring mosquito repellent.

Neighborhood highlights

Our home is located in a rural Bend neighborhood, halfway between Sunriver and LaPine, Oregon. The last mile and a half of your drive will be on a gravel/dirt road that may have ruts and potholes. The speed limit is strictly enforced at 15 miles per hour to keep the dust down in the spring, summer and fall and to navigate safely in packed snow and ice in the winter. If you or your vehicle cannot navigate a road like this, we recommend you do not book this vacation home.

We have full-time and part-time neighbors (that we really like!) and we ask that you be respectful of their properties (no trespassing, please) and your noise level. Quiet time is from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Our home is not secluded, other homes can be seen from ours.

Deschutes River House is perfect to use as a base camp to explore Central Oregon, or just a great spot to hangout and unwind. Once your car is unpacked, there's plenty of nature to explore without hitting the road again. Walk or bike into LaPine State Park from multiple places in the neighborhood (map provided during your stay), launch your kayak or paddle board nearby, or just plant your rear on the deck and relax.

The closest grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops and gas stations are about 20 minutes away in either Sunriver or LaPine. Downtown Bend, and all that it has to offer, is an easy 35-minute drive away.
