Half of a duplex, with one person living on the other side who also uses the porches and back yard. About 1/2 mile to the downtown Plaza. Flat screen satellite television. Wifi. Gas baseboard heat. We feed a stray cat in the front. Wonderful and famous restaurants within walking distance, including Starbucks! Easy access north and south and less than a block to the DeVargas Mall, which has two grocery stores, restaurants, movies, thrift store, fast food, chain stores, etc.. It is off the main street 100 feet down a driveway where your parking to the right is not visible from the street. It is in a charming, historic neighborhood close to public transportation. Long-term bargain pricing available. Combination living/bedroom with separate eat-in kitchen and new stackable washer/dryer. Pleasant ambience with wood and tile floors and "Santa Fe" touches, such as Mexican tile bath, nichos and local artwork. Queen bed, plus fold-out couch could accomadate two more! Yes, it CAN fit four, but you must decide if that space would be too crowded for you. With the sofa bed open almost the whole walking space is taken up.
This unit is PET FRIENDLY provided you are aware that you are taking the risk that there are already dogs there in the other unit, who also use the back door; that your cat must remain inside and your dogs must always be on a leash coming and going. Please, no smokers!
Enjoy hiking, skiing, the opera, and shopping, dozens of galleries and museums within walking distance. This historic house was remodeled in the 90s and has been upgraded since. Let me know if you need more linens for the sofa bed.
Flexible pricing for longer term.
The mountain views are taken from our wonderful nearby dog park (1 mi. from the apartment, 38 acres). In the one with St. Francis Cathedral the apartment would be located in the trees in the middle. The tree is the dog park Christmas tree with one of my rescue dogs, China. On your map it's called the "Frank Ortiz" park. The mountains show our ski basin.
This is an historic neighborhood with many interesting old adobe buildings, as well as new ones. The 7/10 of a mile walk to the Plaza is great for an introduction to the neighborhood residences, businesses and tourist attractions.
The bus stops nearby on Paseo de Peralta.
The street view below is such a wide angle, it is deceiving! But the house is down the dirt driveway you see, about 100 feet.

This place is great- very close to downtown and comfortable enough to sleep up to two couples.
Janet was great and even came in to check on us!
The rental is definitely true to the description. A great half-duplex that is just a short walk to downtown Santa Fe but also next to 84 so that you can get in and out of town easily. Despite the property being a duplex, there is no noise interference from the neighbor. Janet was very nice, left us cookies and the welcome booklet with suggestions on restaurants and sites to experience in Santa Fe. I highly recommend anyone else looking for an affordable, private rental during their stay in Santa Fe!
Very convenient location to the Plaza as we could walk downtown very easily and the apartment was a great value in Santa Fe.
A little background is that my partner and I were spending our 8th summer in Santa Fe and rented Janet's apartment for a 3 full months this summer.
The positives first. The house is in an amazing location. It's a lovely, walkable neighborhood that is close to the Plaza, restaurants, a grocery store and some beautiful walking trails along a city arroyo. It is also a very typical, traditional adobe style home. If you've never been to Santa Fe it's definitely a treat to stay in a historic home with real Adobe walls. The front yard and parking area is a lovely spot for morning coffee. It's a major plus that the house comes with full cable and wireless internet. It is also a fairly inexpensive option considering the proximity to the plaza, the fact that it's dog friendly and other amenities like a full size washer and dryer. Also, if you've never visited before Janet has plenty of suggestions for restaurants and things to do.
Things to consider: as previous renters have noted, the furniture is all pretty old. Everything had the look of second or third hand. The sofa in particular is completely bare of padding and really should be replaced. I can't imagine sleeping on it. Through out the house all the pieces are mismatched and seem pretty ancient. The kitchen supplies probably need the most work. Some pots have holes in them and all of the non stick surfaces are scratched to the point of making them unusable. The back yard is fine for dogs to spend a little time in but I did not feel comfortable leaving my dog out there for any long period of time. There is no grass and no shade or covering of any kind to protect your pooch from the Santa Fe sun and rain. Also, the back porch/yard is shared with the neighbor who is very nice but has two pretty aggressive dogs that do not play well others.
In short, if you are a first time visitor staying for a short vacation I would definitely look into this house. If you are like us and looking for more of a long term, furnished apartment style house you might want to consider other options.
Great location! Walking distance to restaurants, museums, the plaza and bars. Charming and comfortable casita that is exactly as it appears on the pics.
Jane was super-helpful and very attentive. Highly recommended!
I loved the 2 weeks I spent in Santa Fe and this apartment. It's a good size for a one-room studio, with everything we needed. Great and reliable wifi, convenient location (restaurants, galleries, beautiful views of the mountains, etc).
Janet is a warm host who clearly cares about her guests. She was willing to work with us when my husband wasn't able to come (we had originally booked for 2 guests) and was flexible again when I had to cut my trip 2 weeks short. She was always very pleasant to interact with and responded very promptly to any questions.
We look forward to making our way back to Santa Fe and will gladly re-book with Janet when we do!
Janet's apartment is a great place to stay - close enough to the plaza to walk, but out of the way enough to be very quiet. We'll be using this location again for future trips to Santa Fe.
I am a long-time Santa Fe resident and real estate broker, with an animal rescue organization. Those things, my other jobs, and renting property take up all my time!
