The Space

The BEST location in town: This is the heart of Montreal! Located in the "Quartier Latin", a corner away of the city's most important metro station (Berri-UQAM), you will be so close to all the best Montreal has to offer: the famous FESTIVALS, cafés, restaurants, shopping, the old port and the Plateau Mont-Royal... it's all yours one step away!
Distance to...
- Berri-UQAM metro station: 450 m. then only 1 metro stop to Parc Jean Drapeau
- Old Port and Old Montreal: 350 m.
- Place des Arts (Festivals): 1.2 km or 2 metro stops.
- Rue St-Denis & Ste-Catherine: 170 m & 300 m.
- Le Plateau Mont-Royal: 900 m.
- Le Village Gay: 300 m.
- Palais des Congrès: 1 km (13 min walk).

This beautifull apartment is perfect for a couple or single person but can comfortably accommodate 4 guests. Located on the 3rd and top floor of a real Victorian building of 11 apartments(no elevator), the apartment has been completely renovated and tastefully furnished in 2012. Here the “modern design” and the “very old” mix perfectly. High ceilings, hardwood floors and thanks to it's top floor location and it's very large window, the apartment is filled with beautifull natural light all day long.

The kitchen and bathroom have both been completely renovated with a modern touch. All stainless steel appliances are new! The apartment has been well thought out with plenty of storage space (big Ikea PAX wardrobe) and there is a small desk area.

The apartment is ideal for 2 to 4 guests: one queen size bed in the spacious bedroom and a sofa bed that sleeps 2 in the living room.

All the guests have access to the courtyard!

INCLUDED: high-speed Wi-Fi internet access, HD TV 43 "with cable, sheets and towels, electricity, everything you need for cooking and cleaning.
Free acces to the 2 front load and super efficient washer and dryer located on the ground floor of the building.

PARKING: There is no private parking attached to the apartment but we can recommend to you places to park your car, there is a public parking that charges is between 12 and 15$ per 24 hours one block away.

A fantastic supermarket is at only 5 minutes walking distance, a very convenient "dépanneur" is located in the building next door and all the other services and stores you may think off are at hand! According to "Walkscore", the apartment is located in a “walker’s paradise” with it’s 97% score!

We look forward to welcome you in this amazing space!

  • One doesn't meet the host, everything is organized in a way that one finds the key of the apartment and then leaves it in the same place. Anyway, when I needed the host it was easy to reach her. She answered my call right away. I had to call her because the internet was not working fine. She helped me with this.
I didn't noticed the information about the taxes that have to be added to the price, but I accepted the new price, because I didn't have more time to continue looking for an appartment. Now I see this is informed. What it's not informed in the airbnb webpage is that the common areas of the buliding are not renovated, the appartment it is. In general everything is as mentioned, but I foung the window of the appartment rather small.
The owner was reallly willing to help, I had a problem about leaving at the check-out time and she gave me one extra hour without cost. That was nice.
I found the appartment Ok for two people. We were 2 for the last two days, using the main bed and also the sofa, but I think it is a bit small for 4 people, but that depends on each person.
Work was being done in the street in front of the appartment which makes it very noisy during the working hours from Monday to Friday. Don't know how long this will last.

  • This apartment was located in a very central location (Latin-Quartier), in close proximity to all major attractions and the major metro hub (Berri-UQAM). At the time of our stay, there was still quite a bit of construction going on outside the apartment, so if you are a late sleeper, the sound of construction vehicles might be intrusive. However, this was not the fault of our hosts; in fact, they were very responsive, and accommodating, and we had booked knowing this. The demographics in the area consists of many "interesting" locals, but we never felt unsafe, even coming home at the midnight hours.

The check-in procedure was easy, very straightforward. The host provided us with an extensive document that tells you everything you would need to know about the area and the unit. As noted by a previous reviewer, if you are driving, the best place to park is at the Grand Bibliotheque just 5 mins north.

The washroom might be a tad small, but it was also sufficient enough for our use. The mattress is on the softer side, but still comfortable enough for a good night's rest (I prefer more supportive mattresses).

The current pictures don't show this, but one thing to note is that curtains have been added to divide the bedroom from the living room. Good if you want to block out more of the morning sun and/or sound.

The A/C unit during the summer months was adequate for the space, and took next to no time to cool the entire apartment down. The kitchen is well stocked (fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster oven, kettle, utensils, etc), TV has plenty of channels (both English and French).

As another reviewer mentioned, there is no elevator in the building, so luggage will need to be brought up at most 2 large flights of stairs. The second set can be on the steep side if you're not used to narrow stairs.

A minor issue was that the water pressure in the bathroom shower could be a little more powerful, and it does take some time for the water to heat up (so be patient!). We went in knowing this was going to be the case, and we didn't feel that it was a huge deal.

Overall, an appropriately priced option for a place that it clean and adequately spacious for 2 people. Thank you Freddie and Joanna!

  • Great location and very nice space. We we're in Montreal for the weekend and loved it so much we wanted to stay another night. Joanna and Fredrique were very accommodating and helpful. Would definitely recommend this location to anyone who visits.

  • The location is easily accessible, safe, and central in downtown Montreal, by foot and by metro. The apartment is as pictured. I traveled alone and it was perfect for one person, although it would also be comfortable for two.

It is surprisingly easy to get to the apartment from the airport via Bus 747--it took me less than 30 minutes.

  • Pros: The hosts were simply excellent in correspondence, prompt and more helpful than we could hope for. Extremely detailed guidebook is a great addition. Location couldn't be better, with Bixi, Berri-UQAM, and a nice part of St Catherine's a two minute walk away. We're avid walkers and we were able to reach any part of the city we wanted to see (Downtown, Vieux-Port, Plateau/Mont Royal/Mile End, La Ronde/Jean-Drapeau Parc) with a pleasant 15-45 min walk. Apartment was as advertised, comfortable, clean, and quiet with no neighbors on adjacent sides or above.

Cons: The shower needs to be fixed as there is very little pressure. There is what appears to be fairly significant construction going on right now right outside on Berri which hinders accessibility and adds quite a bit of noise. The AC unit can be quite loud but as with any well situated apartment in Montreal, there will be noise - just use earplugs. The stairs weren't a problem for two fit 28 year olds but could be for older patrons with heavy luggage. One other thing we've never encountered before was a requirement to wash all of our dishes, as the cleaning service didn't include this.

All in all a great experience and we would return!

  • The inside of the apartment was perfect. It was very nicely decorated - you could tell they put a lot of thought into it. The bed was more comfortable than most other places I have used on airbnb and the sheets were nice a soft as well, although the pillows were a bit flat. They were great as far as communication and include a huge guidebook after you book that answers any questions you could ever have, including recommendations for places to go. Be prepared - there is no elevator and the staircase is steep and narrow. The only complaint was that the two blocks surrounding the apartment were under construction and we were not warned ahead of time. Due to this, there was no where to unload our bags near the apartment, and the decreased foot traffic made me feel less safe because of a few unsavory characters who hung around the buildings on either side of us. Regardless, it was a great overall experience and I would definitely recommend it.

    Hi Carly,

good point. We dropped the ball for this weekend and letting you know about the construction. We actually didnt know ourselves cause we dont live there and should have done that right away. I'll find some place for bags unloading as well.

  • Stayed at the apartment in Montreal the apartment was great the only two things was how steep and narrow the two staircases were especially with luggage and secondly the water pressure of the shower other than that the apartment meet every requirement you would need. We had a problem with the internet we contacted Joanna and she was on the case straight away, fixed within 15 minutes. The check in and out was easy so all in all a great spot. Where the apartment is located there is road works out the front whilst we were there, it is close to everything and within walking distance to main subway and bus terminal, but be warned in my opinion it is the red light district of Montreal, lots of homeless and weird and wonderful people floating around, but at no time did we feel unsafe, so if you are looking for a clean and great spot to start and end your adventures each day, these apartments do the job , great value. TIP 1. Not to much luggage TIP 2. No windows in the apartment open, but there was a AC.

    Response from Joanna And Frederique:

Hi Brad and Cindy. thanks for staying with us and for taking the time to write this. We will have a look at the water pressure. There must be something we can do. For the window, it is a shame but since there is only 1, we have to choose between the AC and the window being open. Most people choose the AC so that is what we prioritized.
    Come back soon.

Freddie (that was me on the phone for the internet by the way - not Joanna - hihi, everyone thinks I am the guy in the photo but its 2 girls running this business).

  • Staying at Jonnna and Frederique's was perfect. It is just as advertised - a great location with all the amenities we needed. While we were there the weather took an unexpected turn and it got very hot very quick. Within 24hrs of the temp being above normal Freddie had someone there to install the AC - this saved us! We didn't have to ask or anything they were way ahead of us! I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in Montreal.

  • This was a great little spot very close to everything in Montreal we only stayed a night but if your staying longer it has everything you would need. Maintained very well super clean and tidy. Our one suggestion is that since the A C only gets turned on in summer it was very hot! we came in May a fan would have helped also the window does not open all the way and no other ventilation fixing the window or providing something to hold it open with would be good. All and all we highly recommend this apartment.

    Hi Elizabeth,

you are absolutly right. I went to the apartment today and noticed this myself. I will bring a fan and have the AC installed earlier for this apartment.

    come back soon!
