You will love the comfort and serenity of this special room and the privacy most people thrive to experience in vacation stays or extended stay opportunities. What a great opportunity to experience NW downtown DC & all conveniences of "Location."
This will be my full second year using AirBNB and I have thoroughly enjoyed booking other seasoned travelers as myself. I have rented other rooms and apartment spaces for more than 14 years. We are currently taking reservations for this 1 bedroom condo size unit with a short walk to the vibrant U Street Corridor in NW Washington, DC! We are in the nearby vacinity of a renowned famous "Ben's Chili Bowl" Restaurant where President Barack Obama and other notable celebrities had visited. There are many restaurants and entertainment within a radius of two miles.
Local transportation is outside the front door. Street Parking is available (a visitor's pass is also available). Our metropolitan subway system (Red & Green/Yellow lines) is only within 3 to 4 easy blocks of walking. The US Capital and National Monument can be seen from the front of our building.
This condo size unit is comfortable. Ceiling fans and soring 12' ceilings are displayed beautifully. Because of the popularity of this area, the rooms become occupied quickly. The building is three stories tall with basement and built in early 1900's as similar to the brownstones in metropolitan New York City. Has some unique architecturally designed features. There are stairs from the front entrance that moves into a long hallway and wraps up two sets of 3 steps, then up to second and third floors. There is usually someone there to greet you (mostly me) so I will happily help with your luggage.
The condo is available for a reasonable minimum nightly stay or negotiable Extended-Stays, OR Vacation Rental Property. Holiday season bookings for short-stays may be slightly higher!

THIS IS A ONE BEDROOM, 2 PEOPLE-SIZED JETTED JACUZZI BATH UNIT. Furnished areas which includes a queen-sized bed, a futon & queen-size or double-size air bed, upon request, cable and digital television package, seasonal/central air condition or heat, electric/gas & water utilities, a full-size kitchen with nice deck attached leading down to a private entrance/exit (that has been renovated, and we added a private parking space for rent, if available). There's a private bathroom area with individual & complimentary bath welcome products. Comfortable & fully cleaned bed linens and bath towels are included.
This unit can also be expanded to be combined as a two bedroom, two bath rental with access to the whole floor! The other private room is located across the hallway and is a master suite with a King-size bed, and another separate but smaller full bathroom. If you need these two bedroom combinations, make sure you specifically ask in your request to get the combination rate. We encourage you to take advantage of any of our current special pricing, when available.
We have qualified pest control services a few times a year and seasonal cleanup or construction services for completing assigned renovations. Using AirBNB has helped me to fine tune my renovations with your suggestions and I thank and welcome anymore suggestions you may have.
Upon your request, this unit includes continental breakfast that is kept in the privacy of the kitchen. Make sure you let us know you want this breakfast or we will assume you want to provide your own or you expect to eat out or just don't like cooking while vacationing. Our breakfast will include cereal, oatmeal, toast or bagel, coffee and variety of teas, milk or juice. If you find anything else in the refrigerator (like snacks) that you want during your stay, you may have it.
Recent favorite snacks our guests enjoyed: Rice & Wheat Crackers, varieties of Safeway Select Trail Mix, KASHI Trail Mix Bars, Chips, Popcorn, Werthers Coffee/Swirl Candy, Nutella, and a very delicious spread from Trader Joes called Speculoos Cookie Butter!
In the meantime, with your request after you confirm your stay (at least one week in advance of check-in), we will start your mornings out with minimum supplies of your choice(s) in cereal, milk (whole, 2%, 1% or skim) and some type of snack for you to enjoy. If you are confirming within the current week, we can not guarantee your favorite choices but you will have a choice of one of the aforementioned items. If you are staying longer term, you can get your own supplies at nearby local markets or grocery stores.
A Harris Teeter, Whole Foods & Safeway Stores are nearby. We can also order your groceries for delivery as an added service. Pea-pod by Giant is the most popular online delivery service.
The neighborhood is as safe as most places in the NW DC area. DC starts to get very busy in May as the temperature warms up. Travelers are flocking to this area lately! As in any travel experience, it's very understandable how we all have to be observant of our surroundings.
Our neighborhood is safe and since the visitors are increasing, we notice more patrol throughout the District of Columbia. We are not far from the many entertainment activities too. Getting around in DC is very easy via public transportation and we have very easy access. Just let me know where you are interested in going and I can direct you or give you literature to guide your way.
The Howard Theatre is a couple of blocks easy walk and had their grand re-opening ceremonies in early April 2012 and now sell concert and other entertainment tickets. See the HowardTheatre page.

Limousine, SUV or Sedan Transportation services to/from all Airports, Union Station for Amtrak & MegaBus, and Greyhound Stations are also available within the premises. Ask about my driving tour rates. We are open for sight-seeing driving tours throughout the metropolitan areas of Washington DC or Baltimore MD.
Upon check-in, each guest should have a photo ID available to review & copy for our files, unless you completed the verification section of your AirBnB page. Then, your ID will not be necessary.
Guests will have access to the second floor area where they will stay and the basement for washing clothes. You may enjoy relaxing in the common area of the basement and use the exercise machine too. Do not use or borrow anything else while in the basement without permission. Also, do not tread in either corner rooms where guests or residents stay.
Interaction with Guests
All of the rooms listed on my pages are arranged for your comfort, security, and as much privacy as feasible, to give you during your stay. This suite room, in particular, is more Condo style, and is very private with options to enter or exit from the back deck, or front hallway. So, interaction is more up to you and how much social time you would like, or keep it private! Its up to you.
We are on the border of Bloomingdale, Shaw and LeDroit Park Neighborhoods. Great location with a Walkscore of 85 and a TransitScore of 92 (Riders Paradise).
Less than a mile to many downtown attractions - National Portrait Gallery, Chinatown/Verizon Center, U Street, 9:30 Club, Washington Convention Center (many of our guests have been convention attendees). 1.5 miles to the Capitol Building, White House & National Mall. 5 minute walk to many restaurants and bars which are detailed on our check in sheet. Also close by are the Kennedy Recreation Center and 24 hour Safeway Food Store.
Centrally located in downtown DC, just a few blocks from the entrance of the Shaw station on Green and Yellow Metro lines. Tons of transportation options - steps to Green/Yellow Metro, many Zipcars close by, new Capitol Bike Share Stations nearby, bike lanes on 5th, R & Q streets, Buses (G2-Bus to Georgetown, 70 Bus lines, Circulator), easy highway access to the 395 tunnel. 5 stops on the Metro to Nationals BallPark; 8 stops to DCA/Reagan National Airport.
Other Things to Note
This room has a gas stove in the kitchen. Make sure we review it's operation thoroughly at checkin and before you use it. If you are uncomfortable with this type of stove, you may use the electric stove in the basement's common area kitchen.
WIFI is offered as a courtesy and may need to be reset at times for better reception. You may need to move your equipment around too. Sometimes moving to the front of the house works better. If you still cant get your equipment to operate properly you can always go to a nearby coffee shop.
To be courteous to other guests, only use the jacuzzi from the hours of 8:00 am - 9:00 pm. Minimize your usage time to 20 minutes. Then allow the jacuzzi operation to rest at least 2 hours between usage. Make sure the water is over the jet holes before turning it on. When releasing the water, make sure the jacuzzi is turned off!
Absolutely No Smoking Policy on property or adjacent to building. We expect you to be respectful to our other residence and guests. Your accommodations are designed for you to enjoy and relax. However we expect you to be responsible for your own tidiness. Whether you have a fully private unit or share a part of it, we ask that you take into account our house rule for cleaning up after yourself. Each time you use the tub or shower, for instance, clean it (don't leave hair and visibly anything that someone coming behind you can trace it to you). Make sure you pick up the bathmat and rinse it, after your use. Place the floor-mat on the tub to hang dry after use as well. We want the bathrooms to remain the Sanctuary it is intended for escaping the outside busy days. We know you would appreciate that too.
Do not wonder around to residences' or guests' area. Make sure you ask before taking anything that is not in your assigned area. Ask before assuming you have permission of taking anything that was not discussed upon check in.
If you decide to have more than the required guests you signed up for, let me know in advance to make adjustments to your reservations.
We are asking that our guests restrict any friends or other visitors from this house unless we approve them prior to their arrival. You may have any of your guests drop you off or pickup. Just not to enter the house without prior request and approval.
Also, continue to adhere to our House Rules about keeping the doors closed and locked where appropriate. We would appreciate your cooperation.
Let me know if you want to have family or friends other than yourself stay in this unit so that we know who is on the property and that they know the house rules. You will be responsible for any extra cleaning, repairs, or other services we may have to take if you or your guests leave the premises unlivable. We just want you to enjoy your room(s) space(s) as you expect to, while away from your own homes.
Trash pickup locations and details should be adhered to each week for longer stays. Apartment cleaning service available every two weeks for extended stay guests. Cleaning Fee is $55 per light cleaning, if needed, just let us know your needs.
As you collect your belongings make sure to tidy up the room(s) spaces. Take your trash and place it in the garbage bin in the back of the house (if you have a lot) otherwise a small bag can be placed in the trash on any front street can. Cleanup any kitchen area you used too.
Upon leaving, make sure the gate is opened and unlocked and take your luggage out before you leave the keys on the desk in your room (to avoid getting locked in between the gate and the house, if you are leaving from the front of the basement). You may leave the "bedroom door" opened. But, lock the knob on the outside door and close it behind you. Close the gate shut behind you as well. (You wont have the key to lock it obviously but that's OK, we will do it later); leave us a note that you are leaving or have left too.
Meanwhile, have a pleasant journey returning back home.
The apartment is very clean, spacious, and perfectly located for visiting the city and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center (walking distance). The private deck is an extra bonus. Mr. Gerald was very quick to respond to any questions we had and made sure our stay was comfortable. We would highly recommend staying here when visiting Washington DC.
We had another great stay at this space after staying here a few times before. It was clean, all the basics were provided, and the whole building was quiet and safe even during the busy tourist season. The neighborhood is about a 10 minute walk to the Metro, and there are also frequent buses right outside. This is in a very peaceful and safe part of DC, and we enjoyed dining out at a variety of places that were all within walking distance. There are plenty of brochures and literature available with information about events, nightlife, etc. in and around DC, as well as area maps, and menus to local restaurants. The bedroom, bathroom and kitchen are all spacious and comfortable. This is an incredible value for the price, and would work for a single, couple, or small families/groups. We would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in the area.
Ed was very nice to meet us out front to show us back to the parking space. There is a handy convenient store right next to the place we stayed, especially when I forgot to bring a toothbrush! The place was clean and full of character! I thought it was a great value. They provided us with snacks and breakfast items, which was great too. They were very kind to show us around the apartment and made themselves available when I had questions. The back stairs were a bit tough to get up but they landed on a nice deck area where we sat on the patio furniture. There are food places EVERYWHERE and a nice small organic market just a few blocks away.
The rooms were clean and tidy. Great location! Location was our favorite part! Edmond and the Mrs. made us feel very welcome. The Mrs. was great about answering our questions about the metro locations, etc. The house is very old, which was part of the fun -- but had some quirky rooms (extremely tiny 2nd bathroom, dark steps leading up to our rooms, and the back deck that led to our car had extremely steep steps). Overall, a good place to stay because of convenience to DC Mall.
Ed and his lovely wife were wonderful host. They were very welcoming, and hospitable. The place was very quiet and comfortable. They provided plenty of local information for us, and it was very helpful. This location is very centrally located to the National Mall, and other tourist destinations in D.C.
We enjoyed our time in DC at the rental. The rental was clean and tidy with all the amenities that were listed. We had to move up the arrival time and we were able to come to an arrangement. We really appreciated having Ed be flexible with us. The neighborhood was fine for the week that we stayed. We felt safe walking around and to the conference center that we were presenting at. Although the rental was a little cold, the rental was more than livable for the week. Thank you Ed.
My experience at Edmond's was wonderful. The pictures don't do it justice, the back porch and bathroom tub are amazing. I recommend staying here.

I was born here in Washington DC and love the beat of this city. I've had several businesses; most lasting for more than 45 years. I know a lot about DC history and love telling interesting stories of yesteryear!
I am very friendly but have a great knack at serious business. It all began in 1969 when me and Hilton Felton, my music director, started our youth singing group named "Ed Gerald Gospel Sounds". Consequently, for more than 23 years I produced a local (Metropolitan DC) Gospel Show called, "Spread a Little Sunshine", on TV - WTOP, WUSA--CBS Channel 9. Simultaneously, I recorded and produced gospel music; started Paradise Productions Studio next door to this building, then obtained the current building in 1995. This current building produced records under the labels "Paradise Productions", "Energy for God Record Company", Gospel World of E.G., then "EG Record Company." Many notable gospel artists were produced in this building, including the Dorsey Team of Dr. Clayton Hannah and Dr. Thomas A Dorsey.
People who have stayed at my property have had a pleasant fun stay and usually don't like leaving on-time which is ok with me too!
Each of my rented rooms are arranged for your privacy as much as possible (even the few rooms with some shared spaces). These rooms will have some significant historical meaning of my times in DC during the years of TV or Radio producing or recording music or shows that were also performed and presented in metropolitan Parks and Recreation.
If you ask not you receive not, is my favorite motto! Be encouraged...life is truly too short.
Before booking: Link your Airbnb profile to a social network, verify your phone number; and complete your Airbnb profile. If your profile is not complete, upon checkin, expect us to ask to view a photo ID and possibly make a copy for our private records. The purpose is for emergencies and security, like hotels would expect.
After booking: Make sure you send a note letting us know when we will expect your arrival. You may give us your travel itinerary, for instance. It will be helpful in arranging your checkin time, if you plan to arrive within our usual 4pm checkin time. If you expect to arrive more than 1 hour later than the estimated time you gave us, call or send a text updating your arrival time. If we have waited longer than an hour and don't hear from you, you may get charged $20 cash when you check in, for arranging to return or getting someone else to let you in.
Also, if you get the opportunity to stay here, make sure you read the House Manual for clarity in your stay and especially your checkout procedures. Please read details so that you don't get locked out, for instance.
With some locations of the rooms there might be noises that you are not familiar with. This building is located on a busy travel street also. If you are sensitive to noise, we suggest you bring ear plugs.
Remember that Airbnb is not for guests expecting perfection, but for travelers who appreciate getting to know a host and our surroundings, and bonding with the neighborhood and who appreciate saving money. There are many hotel locations in DC but are two to three times or more the price per night.
We expect you to keep your room(s) and immediate area tidy as possible during your stay. This will help you to follow checkout procedures, avoid additional cleanup fee charges, and when you leave, possibly avoid leaving anything behind.

I charge $45/hour for your group, up to 4 people. By the hour charges only apply (no halfs calculated). This Is daytime 9-6. After 6pm til midnight, $55/hour basic evening/night tour. Ask about my airport transportation service as well. I operate in all the metropolitan airports. If you're interested in the above, let me know in advance what you prefer for scheduling.
If you are driving and want to know what to do about parking in our neighborhood, there are some options. There is free street parking. However, its imperative you follow street signs for areas that require you to move your car during street cleaning times. You must watch the dates and times when its restricted. Also, watch "Residential Zone" parking. Hefty fines are issued if there are violations and/or you may be subjected to towing, if you fail to adhere to DC's parking restrictions.
If you expect to stay and park in our neighborhood for longer than two weeks with another State license plate, you need to go to DMV to get a temporary parking permit. (The District's Parking Enforcers will keep track). There are also downtown parking lots and garages. You can find them on a Parking Panda" App. If you don't want to be concerned about the parking, i also rent a parking space behind the home and I would need to schedule you, if its available during your stay.
