Thank you for considering a stay with us ! Its always humbling to be just a small part of the planning of vacation trips, so WELCOME and we look forward to sharing our island lifestyle with you !
This lower unit is a private studio semi-surrounded with bamboo hedges as well as having bamboo flooring, hence the name the Bamboo Room. There is a queen sized bed, full private bath (shower). Unit includes mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot, tea kettle, and basic dishware and utensils. Outside on the covered lanai has a newly constructed counter with sink and an outdoor campstove. It is a peaceful place where you can sit, read, and relax in a garden setting with a partial view of the ocean in the distance. Please note we have a strict no smoking policy.
We are in a secluded neighborhood located on top of a hill at the end of a cul-de-sac. This central location is loaded with places to go for a walk or run. A plus is that our location gives you a two hour jump start to Hana before the others who are heading that way from the other parts of the island. The infamous Pe'ahi aka "Jaws" known for big wave surfing is just down the road. plus Haleakala Downhill bike shop is a 5 min drive from the house !
Haiku has several small grocery stores within 3 miles from us- Hanzawa's, Fukushima and Haiku Market and in Paia, a great inexpensive organic healthfood store called Mana Foods. Haiku, Makawao and Paia have a great selection of eating places that we'll be glad to recommend!
Truthfully, we know how important vacation time is in our busy careers and families, and so we go the extra for our guests by encouraging our "On-Call" texting service to steer you in the right direction so you can tap into the often overlooked behind the scenes activities, whether its attending a Maui Arts and Cultural Center activity to a free booking at the Nature Center's Endangered bird sanctuary up in Hosmer's Grove at Mt. Haleakala, we've done it all. The previous guest feedback pretty much tell the underline woven story of the adventures that have come through our hill top place. A Hui Ho! Come, relax and reconnect, sleep in and take nature walks, gentle conversations on life and redirection !
A final note that we'd like to add is that we are located on a tropical island so please be aware that bugs, insects and such are common every where even in the resort and condo areas, though we do our best to eliminate them or keep them at bay.
A car rental is a highly recommended if not a must for this area.

There are no words to decribe the kindness, hospitality, and sincere graciousness of the hosts April and Randy. After the tradegy of having our wallets stolen on the beach, April did everything that she could to help. We cannot express our thanks enough.
The rental is located on a beautiful property off the hana highway. It is the perfect spot for tranquility and peace away from the more touristy areas of the island. It is a great spot to start your journey on the "Road to Hana". The Road to Hana was my absolute favorite thing on Maui and is a MUST DO. The beauty of the journey itself, as well as the magnificent sights at the national park at the end of the highway were incredible. The house is also a great place to start if you want to see the sunrise from Haleakala (email hidden) only took us one hour and 30 minutes to get from the house to the top.
The rental itself is spacious, clean and the extras are so convenient. April and Randy have coolers, boogie boards, beach chairs, and beach towels all available for use at no extra fee. The free wifi was also very useful.
I highly recommend this rental and would return if we ever visit Maui again.
Great hosts! We were very happy with the hospitality that April and Randy offered. The Studio was exactly as described, neat, spacious and comfortable. The Banana bread and orange juice (and the extra blankets for Haleakala sunrise) were fantastic.
Randy and April were awesome hosts - they welcomed us with their aloha spirit, gave us our privacy but also checked in with us during our 2 week holiday on Maui. We stayed for 11 nights in the (upper)Guest Suite - which had 1 covered deck area - (enjoyed cooking outdoors under cover on those rainy nights) and an open air deck area where we enjoyed many stargazing evenings. The suite was clean, spacious & comfortable, and was a joy to come back to after full days of adventuring on Maui. We would definitely recommend this accommodation to others seeking a place away from the condo setting. Nice ocean view from deck area. The last 4 nights we spent in the downstairs Bamboo Suite as an add on & it was comfortable (accommodation usually max 2 people, but we had 2 make it work for 4 with an extra airbed- thank you Randy!); you are sleeping below the Upper Suite and do hear all the 'goings-on' from upstairs... would suggest the upper suite as a better choice.
Mahalo! ~ Marion, Daniel, Sonja, & Meaghan :)
Aloha Marian and Daniel and Sonja and Meaghan ! Thank you so.. so much for coming our way and indeed huge thank you for letting me do the Hawaiian Healing art of Lomi Lomi Massage on all of you ! This is a growing and deepening passion and has many many layers to dig down deep into the well of. Do stay safe out there .. safe travels and keep in touch (touch !)
Aloha Ke Akua ! Randy
Olinda Bonsai was a great place to stay away from the busy city and resorts. It's a wonderful quiet setting in a beautiful landscape with citrus orchard and bonsai greenhouse. If you are looking for a relaxing retreat close to nature then this is for you. It is also quite centrally located on the island so everything is a short drive from your stay, no matter what you want the spend the day doing.
Randy and April are great hosts with lots of helpful information for the local area. That being said, they also provide a wonderfully private place to stay where you can feel free to come and go as you (website hidden)'ia town is very close with many good restaurants and if you enjoy eating organic food the Mana Foods organic supermarket is definitely worth exploring and buying some food to take back and prepare at home in your lanai. Ho'okipa Beach is also very close where some serious surfers hone their skills on the water.
The jungle drive toward Hana is breathtakingly beautiful. You can head the opposite way into town (Kahalui) to shop for souveniers or keep going to the south end of the island, which is much more "touristy" for drier hot weather on the beach.
We enjoyed our stay so much and when we visit Maui again we will definitely be staying at the Olinda Bonsai!
We loved our stay in this very centrally located guest house. It was a perfect location for going to Hana (only took us an hour to get there!) and for meeting our tour for riding bikes down Haleakala. The room was very nice, comfortable, and clean, and we loved cooking on the outdoor stove. Randy and April are both very friendly and easy to talk to and were incredibly helpful whenever we had questions. I highly recommend the Olinda Bonsai Bamboo Studio if you are looking for small-town accommodations, away from Lahaina and the resort atmosphere.
I had a short, but wonderful stay at the Olinda Bonsai studio. April and Randy are very welcoming host - the information book with the menus was a great touch! The studio was very clean, well presented and happily situated off Hana hwy.! The place is close to the charming town of Paia, which has great eateries and shops! Staying here certainly added to my wonderful Maui experience.
We had a wonderful stay with Randy and April. The room was very clean and well-equipped, and we were welcomed with banana bread and orange juice. It was so peaceful sitting outside enjoying the ocean views. April and Randy provided us with helpful travel advice. This is a terrific location to explore the colourful town of Paia (great restaurants!), up-country and the road to Hana.
Mahalo to April for her warm hospitality - banana bread, fresh orange juice and a late checkout to accommodate our evening flight. We would definitely stay here if we come back to Maui :-)
This was the perfect location if you are planning on doing the drive on the "Road to Hana". (We went 3 times) You are also only a 10 minute drive away from the town of Paia which has several restaurants, a grocery store, gas stations and stores for shopping. Make sure to use bug spray because there are mosquitoes that will get you as soon as you step out of your car since it a plantation area. You will also have to keep the patio door open (screen door closed) to get the cool breeze in the evenings since there isn't any A/C. You can clearly hear the footsteps of the guests in the apartment above you but we didn't mind it too much. Overall it was a clean and comfortable stay with very friendly hosts. (We loved the homemade banana bread they left for us when we arrived!)
It was Great stay at your Place! Very, very friendly and everything in the house is so lovely prepared. Absolutely everything was there! We would recommend it to stay there to everybody. Thanks again!
