About this listing
Wonderful base for exploring the Big Island, located on Alii Drive, just south of Kailua-Kona, minutes from theaters, shopping and fine dining. Spacious deck overlooking the tropical garden, pool, waterfall and fountain, with a view of the ocean.
Charming one bedroom condo with updated bathroom, tile floors, fans and air conditioning, well-appointed kitchen with brand new microwave and refrigerator, cable TV, wi-fi, ironing facilities and spacious lanai with a view of the ocean. There's a comfy king bed in the bedroom, or you can enjoy balmy nights overlooking the garden pool on the queen sleeper couch in the living-room protected from the occasional mosquito by the brand new lanai screen door. The saltwater pool overlooking the ocean is large and deep, great for work-out swims and whale watching. Create a lovely airflow by opening the lanai door and front door and latching the screen door for security. The complex is also equipped with a laundry, elevator and free parking. Tea and coffee provided.
This is a self-catering condo and you will have access to all the public areas of the complex. You will receive instructions on check-in shortly before your arrival date. Check-in time is 5pm, though this can be changed on request if the cleaner has left.
Interaction with Guests
I may or may not be on the island during your stay. Please let me know by email or phone if you have questions or if there are any problems.
I use my condo as a base for exploring the Big Island. Check out the great snorkeling at Kahaluu Beach Park just south of the Casa on Alii Drive, the best white sand beaches on the island north of Kona, the black sand beaches on the East side of the island and the green sand beach near South Point, the southern tip of the United States. I can give you instructions on where to swim with turtles and manta rays. After a trip to view the volcano or hike through the jungle on the windward side of the island, this is a wonderful place to return to, barbecue and relax by the ocean in the balmy Kona evening air.
Best to rent a car at the airport to get to the condo and to explore the island. There is a shuttle that runs along Alii Drive to and from Kailua-Kona. It's about a 20 minute walk, pleasant in the early morning or evening, hot during the day, but with plenty of shady oceanfront rest areas. There's good parking behind Coconut Village Shopping Center and Costco has the best gas prices on the island.
Other Things to Note
There is a 2 night minimum stay at all times of the year except 5 nights during Ironman. Price includes 13.42% tax which I am obliged to collect on behalf of the state of Hawaii. Please note that prices vary according to the season and are higher during the October through March peak months. The complex has a no smoking policy which is strictly enforced.
I'm happy to share my home away from home, please treat it with respect. Absolutely no smoking, wild partying or drug use. Above all, please respect the other tenants' peace and privacy.
The unit is very nice, clean and quiet. It's like a resort with swimming pools and other facilities without the noisemakers. We spent most of our time exploring the island so did not spend much time at the place. But I'm sure one can comfortably stay for days there just to relax and do nothing.
We would definitely come back next time..
The listing description was accurate--the apartment has a partial ocean view and great access to the pools on site.
We arrived at the condo finding it exactly as Jane had described. It was clean and comfortable allowing us privacy and relaxation. Since there is a lot to see on The Big Island, we did not spent too much time here, except to sleep. We only got to dip our feet in the salt water pool once our last morning there, but the complex was nice and neighbors welcoming. We did enjoy the local Alii Market Place to purchase some reasonably priced souvenirs and food. Jane was quick in her response time and we enjoyed a peaceful stay, thank you.
Everything about this place was fantastic. Good location and very friendly hosts. Yes the pool is great and I would recommend the outside gas bbq's for cooking with a beautiful sunset (or any time) to take back to your balcony or eat and drink there with friendly guests. I would definitely recommend this place and go again.
My girlfriend and I would like to thank Tom and Jane for letting us rent their place.
The apartment is great, holding everything we needed for a wonderful stay at the Big Island, and it’s within walking distance of downtown Kona and right by the ocean. Plus we loved the integrated air conditioning system, which was very quiet – even at night. Besides, Tom and Jane were very easy to get in touch with when we had questions.
We had a fabulous time in Kona at Tom and Jane's condo. The location was perfect for walking into town as well as for sightseeing around the island. The condo, itself, is very clean and well maintained with everything needed for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. We especially enjoyed the ocean waves coming into the salt water, black bottom pool; just heavenly.
Tom and Jane's condo is situated on the ocean side of Alii drive which is as close to the ocean as possible. The location is close to freeway and popular downtown. We walked to the open air market and it is a short drive to popular destinations north or south of Kona.
The condo complex is kept with beautiful landscaping and the BBQ area nice for family dinners. The salt pool is one of the best features and we were able to see the Kona sunset while in the pool.
The unit has pool and court side view out of the lunai with peekaboo ocean view. We loved sitting there every morning. The place is clean and tidy in 90's tropical decor with well stock kitchen if one wish to cook.
We enjoyed our stay enough that we extended another night. The cleaning fees are a bit hefty ($100) for a small place so I recommend staying longer. However the cleaners do a great job in keeping the place very clean. Tom and Jane's place is a great value and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants a great base camp while they explore Kona.

About the Host, Jane
Originally from England, I have travelled extensively and worked as a professional musician. I retired recently from an administrative position at the University of Washington, and am enjoying working for myself for a change. Hosting airbnb guests is really interesting and fun, and gives me a chance to meet people from all over the world.
