About This Listing
Wonderful base for exploring the Big Island, located on Alii Drive, just south of Kailua-Kona and minutes from theaters, shopping and fine dining. Our deck overlooks the tropical garden pool, waterfall and fountain, and also has a view of the ocean.
Charming one bedroom condo with updated bathroom, tile floors, fans and air conditioning, well-appointed kitchen with brand new microwave and refrigerator, cable TV, wi-fi, ironing facilities and spacious lanai with a view of the ocean. There's a comfy king bed in the bedroom, or you can enjoy balmy nights overlooking the garden pool on our queen sleeper couch in the living-room protected from the occasional mosquito by the brand new lanai screen door. The saltwater pool overlooking the ocean is large and deep, great for work-out swims and whale watching. Create a lovely airflow by opening the lanai door and front door and latching the screen door for security. The complex is also equipped with a laundry, elevator and free parking. Tea and coffee provided.
This is a self-catering condo and you will have access to all the public areas of the complex. You will receive instructions on check-in shortly before your arrival date. Check-in time is 5pm, please don't arrive early, as the cleaner may still be here. Please be sure to sign in at the front desk when you arrive and check with the manager between 7am and 10am for a parking permit.
Interaction with Guests
We may or may not be on the island during your stay. We hope you enjoy your visit and we thank you for leaving everything as you found it, for the next guests.
We use our condo as a base for exploring the Big Island. Check out the great snorkeling at Kahaluu Beach Park just south of the Casa on Alii Drive, the best white sand beaches north of Kona, the black sand beaches on the East side of the island and the green sand beach near South Point, the southern tip of the United States. We can give you instructions on where to swim with turtles and manta rays. After a trip to view the volcano or hike through the jungle on the windward side of the island, this is a wonderful place to return to, barbecue and relax by the ocean in the balmy Kona evening air.
Best to rent a car at the airport to get to our condo and to explore the island. There is a shuttle that runs along Alii Drive to and from Kailua-Kona. It's about a 20 minute walk, pleasant in the early morning or evening, hot during the day, but with plenty of shady oceanfront rest areas. There's good parking behind Coconut Village Shopping Center and Costco has the best gas prices on the island.
Other Things to Note
There is a 3 night minimum stay at all times of the year except 5 nights during Ironman. Price includes 13.42% tax which we are obliged to collect on behalf of the state of Hawaii. Please note that the complex has a no smoking policy which is strictly enforced.
We are happy to share our home away from home, please treat it with respect. Absolutely no smoking, wild partying or drug use. Above all, please respect the other tenants' peace and privacy.
They checked in before, during, and after the visit letting you know they were there and willing to assist. The hospitality was great. The home was exactly as described and a truly lovely beach escape. High recommended.
We really enjoyed our stay at Tom and Jane's condo! The saltwater pool and beach area was the best, and if we needed any better there were many small beaches and coves within several miles walking distance in either direction.
The open air market just down the road, and Green Flash coffee are great stops, and shops are nearby and plentiful. Dtn Kona is a short hike away!
We'd stay at their place again anytime. Great price and the perfect spot for us :)
The suite was what we expected, and Tom and Jane were very helpful and quick to reply to our questions.
Loved my stay here and really hope to return to the Big Island soon! The condo is as advertised and in a quiet, relaxing, friendly community right on the ocean with all of the amenities one needs. I found the location to be perfect - set back from Alii Drive so there was no noise or chaos that comes with being right in the middle of town. The location also had easy access to the main roads to navigate the island making this a perfect home base. Tom and Jane were available if needed and with a recommendation for some delicious fish tacos. Really enjoyed morning coffee on the lanai and sitting in the beach area or salt water pool to watch the sunset on the few nights I was back before sunset!
We only stayed a short time (2 nights) but we enjoyed the very spacious, comfortable condo. We swam in both pools and enjoyed the sunset each night. Jane and Tom were very responsive to email. The little store in the plaza roadside was convenient for snacks and drinks. The location was perfect for our last two days in Hawaii.
Wonderful apartment. Exactly as described and viewed in photos. Really enjoyed our stay. Although we never met Tom & Jane they were available to contact whenever we had any questions.
Whilst public transport is around I would recommend a car to get around and explore all big island has to offer!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The condo was in a great location and a good base to have when exploring the island. We were in every corner of it. We especially liked the lanai for the following: the ocean view, the sound of the fountain and view of the pool, drinking Kona coffee (of course), having a meal or a cocktail on it. We also liked to have a cocktail in the common area (tables and grills) in the evening to listen to the wave action. When we were back in time for sunset, we headed down to the front wall, along with many others, and took pictures. We were also lucky enough to see humpback whales out front one morning.
The bed was comfortable, the wifi worked well and Jane or Tom got back to us when needed. Although it looked like a nice flatscreen tv, we never turned it on. We were either gone, on the lanai, out front or asleep. The only downside was having to leave for MN and the expected snow upon our return.
Thanks Tom and Jane for sharing your condo!

About the Host, Tom And Jane
Tom is from the Seattle area, worked at Boeing, was in ski patrol and taught kayaking. He has lived on yachts for 19 years and now focuses most of his time creating beautiful artwork and maintaining our floating home, a 55' Grand Banks Alaskan pilothouse trawler.
Originally from England, Jane was a sailor and professional musician for many years, has traveled extensively, and lived in southern Europe, the Caribbean, Alaska and Hawaii before settling in Seattle 22 years ago.
Hosting airbnb guests is really interesting and fun. It gives us a chance to meet people from all over the world, and allows us to maintain homes in Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest now that we're retired.
