Our unique and historic three story house is nestled in a quiet neighborhood, but still only 8 minutes from downtown. Your private third floor suite includes kitchenette, queen sized bed, private bath, pool table, and a lush and gorgeous back yard!
Our house--The S.P. Bricker--was built in 1897 and is a late example of the Queen Anne style. The S.P. Bricker has been featured twice on the Brighton Heights House Tour.
You have your own private bathroom with shower, queen sized bed, and couch that turns into a full sized pull-out (regarding the pull out, please see "House Rules").
There is also a private kitchenette area with breakfast nook (hot plate, tea pot, coffee maker, mini fridge/freezer, toaster oven). Coffee and tea, fresh linens, towels, hair dryer, shampoo, soap are all provided.
The whole house is equipped with free wifi, and there is a TV in your room with basic cable. There is also a pool table, record player, and window air conditioner (in the summer months).
This listing is for the entire third floor guest suite. This is considered its own private apartment, the only thing shared is the entrance and stairwell leading up to the third floor--you enter through our front door. This suite is very private--you have the whole floor to yourselves and can be completely self sufficient.
During your stay, my husband and I are on hand to help with restaurant suggestions, cheap happy-hour spots, ideas for sightseeing and fun activities in the city. We live in the first two floors of the house, but really only see you upon entering and exiting, but if you need anything we're almost always around!
We love our neighborhood, the houses surrounding us are beautiful and have lots of character, the people walking their dogs will stop and chat if you're in the mood, and in the summer months we spend the majority of time in our backyard grilling and gardening. It's like a little slice of paradise!
The house is an easy two block walk to the small local business district which includes a coffee shop, pizzeria, grocer/butcher/deli, liquor store, yoga studio.
There is ample street parking right in front of the house.
The S.P. Bricker is a 7 minute drive from Heinz Field and PNC Park, 10 minute drive to downtown, and 12 minutes to Station Square and South Side. The house is located two blocks from two bus lines to downtown, and Oakland (University of Pittsburgh, CMU, UPMC).
Please send us a message if you have any additional questions, and we hope to see you soon!
My son and I were at the end of a whirlwind college Musical Theatre audition schedule and our stay with Jessica and Doug was just what we needed for his audition at Carnegie Mellon!
So, so much better than staying in a hotel. Jessica is fun, funny, and a fantastic hostess. The room is great, really big, and clean as a whistle.
The whole house is cool, with tons of books and paintings and musical instruments. It was so artistic and a perfect backdrop for our stay.
We'd never been to Pittsburgh, and Jessica gave us recommendations for restaurants (we're vegetarians, try to Red Oak!) and welcomed us to the SP Bricker later than expected (nearly midnight) with a smile on her face!
The little touches go a long way....the postcards Jessica had available and then posted for us were a charming piece of attention to detail!
I highly recommend that you stay with Jessica and Doug at the SP Bricker, but only if I'm NOT going to Pittsburgh at the same time, because I will have booked it looooong in advance!
My boyfriend and I had an awesome time Jessica made us feel right at home. I was a little cold one night and I mentioned it to her and she got me extra blankets a heater and a bottle of wine. We had a great time!!!
We got in late after seeing a concert and Jessica was very accommodating. The house was beautiful, and they even suggested a great breakfast place we stopped at on our way out. Thanks!
My daughter and I were delighted with both the charming home and our hosts, Jessica and Doug! They made us feel like family, helping us (out in the cold snow) with our bags up to the wonderfully cozy third floor studio apartment. Everything was clean and comfortable, and have I already said, so charming? The pictures really do reflect the pride they have in their home, the architecture highlighted in their choices of colors and eclectic decor. We took their advice about favorite local restaurants and enjoyed some great food during our stay (amazing Thai food at Nicky's and big burgers at Benjamin's, just several miles away).
During our "nesting-in-place" day (between two days of college tours), we had our choice of sofas, plenty of quilts (but didn't need those, the room was perfectly warm even though it was zero degrees out), books and TV to relax with. There's a pool table, too (!), though we were content to just read.
Overall, our experience with these wonderful, friendly, interesting people (and cute Buckley, their dog) sharing part of their home was wonderful. HIGHLY recommended, and we will definitely stay here again if we're back in Pittsburgh!
This one is SPECIAL! There is a reason Jessica's got a zillion amazing reviews. 'CAUSE IT IS AMAZING! Yep!
When you show up,you'll realize how lucky you are.
She's got a great house. She and her guy Doug are made out of fun and can hold up their end of a conversation. Our top floor room was super. Guys! They have a pool table in there! Overall, everything is nice and neat, Its all comfey. They also have more REALLY good books than you have lifetimes to read them, and bunches of records from the 60s& 70s.
If I can get Junior into Carnegie Mellon, this going to be my base.
I've traveled to Pittsburgh many times and staying here was so much nicer than a hotel. The well appointed third floor room was huge and had everything we needed. Jessica and Doug were very gracious. I would definitely stay with them again.
Jess and Doug are amazing hosts! From the minute we arrived (plus our little 10lb pup), Jess made us feel incredibly welcome and helped us with anything we needed. The house itself is beautiful and the private loft area where we slept was far more than we could have expected. The pictures don't do their house and the loft justice. Unfortunately, we were only passing through, so we didn't get to spend more time with Jess and Doug, which is a bummer, because they are a great couple. We went to take our dog out late at night and ended up having a half hour laugh session with them on their porch. We truly could not have had a better first experience with AirBNB. Thanks Jess and Doug!
Jessica was a great hostess, the BEST, she always ask if you need anything, the room is perfect and the house is gorgeous.
Doug the husband is a very nice person too and Bucley the dog is a lovable puppy. :)
I feel like i`m visiting old friends.
Love it here!
Jessica and Doug were exceptional hosts and honestly have one of the most beautiful homes I have ever seen. We enjoyed our stay very much and would stay there again without hesitation!
