Our unique and historic house is nestled in a quiet neighborhood 10 minutes north of downtown. Your private suite is the entire third floor and has a kitchenette, private bath, queen bed, pull out couch, pool table, and a lush and gorgeous back yard!
Our house--The S.P. Bricker--was built in 1897 and is a late example of the Queen Anne style. The S.P. Bricker has been featured twice on the Brighton Heights House Tour.
You have your own private bathroom with shower, queen sized bed, and couch that turns into a full sized pull-out (regarding the pull out, please see "House Rules").
There is also a private kitchenette area with breakfast nook (hot plate, tea pot, coffee maker, mini fridge/freezer, toaster oven). Coffee and tea, fresh linens, towels, hair dryer, shampoo, soap are all provided.
The whole house is equipped with free wifi, and there is a TV in your room with basic cable. There is also a pool table, record player, and window air conditioner (in the summer months).
This listing is for the entire third floor guest suite. This is considered its own private apartment, the only thing shared is the entrance and stairwell leading up to the third floor--you enter through our front door. This suite is very private--you have the whole floor to yourselves and can be completely self sufficient.
During your stay, my husband and I are on hand to help with restaurant suggestions, cheap happy-hour spots, ideas for sightseeing and fun activities in the city. We live in the first two floors of the house, but really only see you upon entering and exiting, but if you need anything we're almost always around!
We love our neighborhood, the houses surrounding us are beautiful and have lots of character, the people walking their dogs will stop and chat if you're in the mood, and in the summer months we spend the majority of time in our backyard grilling and gardening. It's like a little slice of paradise!
The house is an easy two block walk to the small local business district which includes a coffee shop, pizzeria, grocer/butcher/deli, liquor store, yoga studio.
There is ample street parking right in front of the house.
The S.P. Bricker is a 7 minute drive from Heinz Field and PNC Park, 10 minute drive to downtown, and 12 minutes to Station Square and South Side. The house is located two blocks from two bus lines to downtown, and Oakland (University of Pittsburgh, CMU, UPMC).
Please send us a message if you have any additional questions, and we hope to see you soon!
We had a wonderful stay at the SP Bricker over a long weekend. The hosts, Jessica and Doug and their dog Buckley, were very friendly and accessible while the studio on the 3rd floor of their home was super comfortable, nicely decorated and well-equipped. It gave us a great central base for all the people and things in the region we were there to see. Will definitely keep them on a short list of places to stay when in Pittsburgh again!
Our stay at the S.P. Bricker was fantastic. First, the house itself is magnificent; it's beautifully restored and decorated and deserves a spot in a magazine spread. Our fully-equipped suite was spacious and comfortable, with an aesthetic that we really appreciated (including many wonderful books and records). The kitchenette makes it an ideal place for both long and short-term stays, and it was nice to have a sofa and other seating throughout the suite. I also enjoyed the opportunity to get to know Brighton Heights on Pittsburgh's North side a bit, since it's a part of the city with which I'm not very familiar. The area is very pleasant, and there are several good bars and restaurants nearby. Also, though we had a car, the location provides easy access to other parts of the city via public transportation. Finally, Jessica was a charming and helpful host. She was friendly and fun, and I would have enjoyed spending hours talking to her. We definitely hope to stay with Jessica and Doug again and would highly recommend them and their lovely home.
Beautiful place and Jessica was so accommodating and friendly!! I would definitely stay again!!
The place was great and we got more than everything we needed and more. Not to mention the entire house is amazing. Jessica was out of town so Doug was there to help us out with anything we needed. He was awesome. The rental had plenty of room and a lot of great adds to it. Pool table, lounger, kitchenette, a record player, and more. Short trip downtown...5-10 minute drive? About $11 Uber ride from the house. Hope they let us come there again!
Jessica is a gracious and helpful host who has a beautiful home with a charming guest suite. The guest suite exceeded our expectations and had even more amenities and small touches than you would find in a hotel. We would definitely stay here again if we are back in Pittsburgh. Thank you Jessica!
Spacious, all-equipped room on the 3rd floor of a lovely historic house. Jessica and Doug were great hosts and gave us many helpful tips about the city. Great experience!
Wow! What a gorgeous home! The 3rd floor studio was spacious and private. I loved the decor and everything was clean and comfortable. Jessica and Doug were great hosts and really attentive to my needs. Jess was great at getting back to me with scheduling the arrival and made the check in really smooth. If I visit Pittsburgh again, I would definitely return to their home. What a lovely place to live!
Great stay! Jessica and Doug were wonderful hosts. The space is very comfortable, clean and quiet. Great mattress. I never got around to playing pool, but yes, there is a pool table in the flat! Easy drive from airport and from apartment to downtown.
Jessica and Doug were charming hosts. They had the perfect spot for my daughter and I on a recent visit to Pittsburgh for a few days. Jessica created a terrific little info sheet with all important things we would have wanted to know (local, almost neighborhood restaurants etc). They were also able to provide info on the public transport system which is handy to their house. The room itself, complete with kitchenette, was really wonderful as a home base, as well as "chill" spot in between museums, conservatories and Broadway shows! A huge thanks to them for making our stay in Pittsburgh so terrific!
My son and I were at the end of a whirlwind college Musical Theatre audition schedule and our stay with Jessica and Doug was just what we needed for his audition at Carnegie Mellon!
So, so much better than staying in a hotel. Jessica is fun, funny, and a fantastic hostess. The room is great, really big, and clean as a whistle.
The whole house is cool, with tons of books and paintings and musical instruments. It was so artistic and a perfect backdrop for our stay.
We'd never been to Pittsburgh, and Jessica gave us recommendations for restaurants (we're vegetarians, try to Red Oak!) and welcomed us to the SP Bricker later than expected (nearly midnight) with a smile on her face!
The little touches go a long way....the postcards Jessica had available and then posted for us were a charming piece of attention to detail!
I highly recommend that you stay with Jessica and Doug at the SP Bricker, but only if I'm NOT going to Pittsburgh at the same time, because I will have booked it looooong in advance!
