The Space

My home is a 1912 California Craftsman bungalow in the heart of historic Kensington, central San Diego. A quick walk around the corner you'll find shops, restaurants, cafes, a library, a park, an independent movie cinema, a locally-owned video store (Ken Video! the best in San Diego!) and quick access to two major freeways, which will get you anywhere you want to go in San Diego. A 10-minute drive will take you to the San Diego Zoo, historic Balboa Park, the downtown Gaslamp Quarter and, of course, our famous San Diego beaches, bays and harbor. Drive east 1 hour and you will find yourself in the beautiful Laguna Mountains (visit Julian for apple pie or wine tasting!) or the Anza-Borrego desert. (Great for hunting fossils!)

The guest room has one double futon, best for 1-2 people. Guests tell me the bed is extremely comfortable and the room is cozy and quiet, situated at the back of the house away from the street. The one bathroom is shared.

I often have a large dog in the house. As a volunteer for the California German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue, I foster dogs, usually one at a time. Some of them are better with children than others so if you do have small children, let me know. While I will crate my dogs if there is reason to do so, they generally have free access to the house and backyard. GSPs are smart, social and curious; they will want to check you out. If you have any canine phobias or allergies, you may not be entirely comfortable. Despite their breed, they do shed. (I vacuum alot.) And because of their breed, they can get pretty wound up.

My current foster dog, Roxy, is approx. 9 years old, a happy, sweet gal and very mellow for a GSP. However, she's probably not okay with other dogs in the house, since she tends to be dominant. How she does around very small children (under 5) is questionable. She hasn't been toddler-tested yet.

For breakfast, I'll set out fresh fruit, yogurt, honey and toast or muffins. If we cook up something hot for breakfast or dinner, you are welcome to join us. Or we'll send you to our favorite little wine bar just up the street, where you can order a fabulous shrimp chili relleno to go with your Zin!

Wi-fi and Internet access available and free. TV is limited (basic network stations) but I do have NetFlix. Street parking is always available.

No car? You can catch the No. 11 bus just at the end of the street that will take you through midtown San Diego, down along Balboa Park and on into Downtown San Diego. (My mom even took that bus, alone, all the way to the end of the line and back, through Barrio Logan. She said it was a really interesting round trip!)

  • Jennifer was a great host. Her home is lovely and reflects many of her travel adventures. I found it to be very relaxing while I was there, plus it is ideally located just off a main bus line. Her dog was a sweetheart and mostly kept to herself. I only had a chance to stay for two nights, so I didn't have much time to enjoy the backyard. I enjoyed our brief chat on my last morning there and I would gladly stay again. Her posting is exactly as listed and I enjoyed the historic charm of her place. It was an ideal location for me and I definitely recommend people stay here.

  • I checked into this charming spot and Jennifer greeted my daughter and I and showed me around. Jennifer was very hospitable and easy going. She had a nice dog named Roxy who listened very well and was nice to my daughter. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. The sheets were amazing!!!! So comfortable the pillows so soft, I had the best sleep as the house and surroundings were very quiet. Jennifer made delicious coffee in the morning and I was able to help myself to granola fruit and yogurt.I took a dip in the Jacuzzi which was very nice a perfect hit temperature in a beautiful garden setting the only sounds to be heard was the bubbling water of the jacuzzi the running water of the little waterfall and the morning doves around. The shower pressure was nice and the bathroom was also nicely decorated and very clean. The night I stayed Jennifer brought me over to her partners house to have a jam session since it was in my wish list! I got to play instruments from around the world as well as handmade instruments her partner Patrick made! Patrick was also very hospitable and easy going. I had such a great time! Truly the best experience I have ever had at a B and B! I definitely plan to return when the availability opens up!

  • Once again, a great AirBnB experience. I'm planning on moving to San Diego and Jennifer was great, gave lots of great advice, great conversation, very interesting. House is as beautiful and welcoming as the pictures indicate. Immaculate, peaceful, and great neighborhood. Good energy all around, I'd stay again in a heartbeat if the calendar ever frees up again!

  • This place was amazing! The house was clean and quiet. The neighborhood was very charming - A place I personally would buy a house in if given the opportunity. There are many shops, restaurants, and stores at a walking distance. Jennifer was very nice and friendly. She was always accommodating and hospitable. She left us yogurt, fruits, granola, honey, and coffee each day. We were there 5 days. She gave us many suggestions as where and what to visit in San Diego. I didn't want to leave at the end because I really felt at home. Highly recommended place to stay.

  • Our stay with Jennifer (and her dog) was absolutely awesome! Jenn is a fantastic host; she went out of her way to help us to have a great time in San Diego - she took us out for tacos, beer and fireworks!! :D

Her home is lovely and quiet, in the safest neighbourhood ever - (she doesn't even lock the front door most of the time!)

If you are looking to stay in San Diego, and you have a car, this is the home and host for you! You will love it!!

  • Jennifer is a very friendly and accommodating host who was interested in us but did not hover. We felt free to come and go as was convenient to us. We could use the kitchen as much or as little as we liked and were served a light breakfast which we augmented with pastries from a nearby Starbucks. There are a number of nice eating places within easy walking distance. We plan to use this B&B again.

  • In San Diego for a quick overnight stay and was overjoyed to meet Jennifer and see her beautiful home. It's a treat to stay in such a well appointed, cozy space. Jennifer even turned on the spa for a post-dinner dip! Wonderful host, enchanting space. A treat!

I am a graphic/web designer and photographer. I grew up in Phoenix, AZ. As an adult I have lived in New York City, Paris, New Hampshire (briefly) and, as of 1989, here in San Diego. I was born in France (although I only lived there until age 3). I speak some French...assez bien! I've travelled throughout Europe, Argentina and Chile. I've also been to Hong Kong, Australia, Bali and Egypt. I love to cook. I enjoy a good wine, my favorites being Zins from the Lodi, CA region. My home is filled with my ceramics and other art. I love being outdoors, hiking, walking, discovering new places, investigating back alleys and roads. My boyfriend, Patrick, is a contractor, craftsman and a musical instrument builder. The instrument he builds is unique and one-of-a-kind. Search for "Array mbira" and you'll see something you've probably never seen before. Needless to say, music features big in our life. We love jam sessions, even with those who don't "play." (I'm not trained, I mostly just noodle around, but we manage to get some good stuff happening at times.) If you are musically-inclined, Patrick has many instruments to share with you: the Array mbira, a Balinese trompong, a Japanese koto, gongs, guitars, keyboards...or just sit back and enjoy the jam. I am also a volunteer for the California German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue. My old guy, Bruno, recently passed away, but I am now fostering GSPs from time to time while they wait for their new homes. I only foster one dog at a time, each with their own personalities. Some get along well with other dogs, some not as well, so if you have a dog with you, please contact me for compatibility details. Sorry, no cats please. Most GSPs are natural born hunters. Let us know if you would like to visit. And we'll do the same! Looking forward to meeting you. Jennifer
