About this listing
Casa Foresti: an ancient house with a warm feeling, located in a quiet medieval village on top of a green hill in the center of the region. As hosts, we do our best to have our guest experience Umbria off the path - our reviews speak by themselves...
Hello traveler! Looking for a cosy and elegant base to relax and explore the beautiful landscapes, tastes and cultural heritage of Umbria - the region nicknamed "The Green Heart of Italy"? We're glad you found this page, and ready to welcome you!
/// Please note: if you don't find availability for the dates you need, please consider our other wonderful apartment in the same building... just click on our profile picture on the right and scroll down to find it under "listings". Thank you! ///
"Casa Foresti" is a 4-rooms, 120sq/m apartment with garden inside a 14th century building (renovated in 2009); it's located in the historic centre of Bettona, a lovely medieval village resting on top of a green hill coated in olive groves. Finely furnished and decorated, equipped with Wi-Fi, TV, hairdryer, dishwasher, washing machine, bed linen, towels and (we hope!) everything you might need to have in your own house, it's just the perfect place for your stay, offering you...
relax in the typical barrel-valuted living room;
fun while trying your cooking skills with real italian food in the lovely kitchen;
a beautiful dining room with wide windows overlooking the ancient etruscan walls
and a small terrace on the walls for an aperitivo while admiring the sunset on the hills.
Our comfortable holiday house, with room for up to 5 people (two communicating bedrooms), is the ideal option for a pleasant stay in Umbria, ensuring you moments of rest and relax between visits to the precious historic and cultural jewels of which Umbria is rich, either in the well-known cities like Assisi and Perugia and the “minor” centres to discover.
Interaction with Guests
On top of this, we - the Foresti family - really enjoy to get to know a little our guests by offering something to make their stay unique.
If we have time and if you wish to, we'll be glad to show you around some hidden spots in the local area, have you over for dinner or take you to a local winery, cheesemaker, restaurant or cultural event - obviously free of charge! My son Francesco speaks very good English and my wife Anna is available if you'd like to get some Italian cooking lessons. We'll do our best to make you feel really at home - of course without being invasive - so feel free to ask us about interesting destinations nearby, as well as restaurants or other local attractions! We live just upstairs of the apartment...
We'll be glad to help you get the best this region has to offer. Giorgio, Anna, Francesco and Lucilla Foresti are pleased to welcome you in their home for a pleasant stay in Bettona!
Bettona, is a beautiful small village of 300 people of Etruscan (4th century BC) and medieval origin, set on a hill overlooking Perugia and Assisi. Although tiny, in town you will find three restaurants, two bars, a small grocery shop with homemade food, a deli shop, a city museum, an international library, a multi-sport complex and, quite often, some social events where people gather to eat all together.
Bettona is quite close to every interesting destination in Umbria:
it is just 16 km far from Assisi, home of St. Francis and UNESCO Heritage Site;
5 km from Torgiano, renown worldwide for its precious wines;
10 km from Deruta, famous for its ceramics;
17 km from Bevagna, the town that turns medieval for the whole month of June;
20 km from Perugia, largest city in the region, seat of a large University for foreigners and with a young nightlife in its historic center;
22 km from Spello, 24 km from Montefalco, 26 km from Foligno, 33 km from Todi, 55 from Spoleto, each one a different medieval pearl to explore;
and 45 km from the shores of Trasimeno Lake and its wonderful tiny islands.
In one hour of travel by car it’s possible to reach every destination in Umbria. If you're up for longer travels, Siena, Firenze and Roma are all within two hours.
Public transportation isn't that great in Umbria, we recommend renting a car (either in Perugia airport, 15km away, or Perugia train station) to experience Umbria at its best.
Parking spots are always available not more than a minute away from the house. At the moment of booking we provide a map of Bettona with everything the village has to offer and a map of Umbria with our favourite landmarks.
Other Things to Note
Just to be sure you won't have surprises when you arrive in Casa Foresti: being an old medieval house, the plan is circular and the two bedrooms are communicating; that means that in order to reach the living room and the bathroom, guests staying in the second bedroom can either pass through the first bedroom or through the patio (few steps outside). See the last picture (house plan).
Just the basic ones:
- PLEASE NOTE: Check-in is after 4pm, check-out before 10am. If you need to arrive earlier, PLEASE make sure to let us know in advance.
- The second bedroom can be arranged with two single beds or a double bed. Please let us know which arrangement you need, or you will find the two single beds by default.
- bed linen and towels are provided.
- no smoking inside the house, but there's an ashtray in the garden.
- in case of key loss, 25€ will be taken from your deposit.
- the most important: enjoy your stay!
We loved this great house in Bettona (Assisi). It is well appointed and very clean and comfortable. The wine, milk, bread, etc were a welcome extra and very much appreciated. Thank you Anna and Georgio for a great stay.
Giorgio's flat in Bettona is spectacular. It's in a beautiful setting, with a vine-covered walkway and cozy outdoor eating area, nestled inside the town wall of Bettona. Inside, vaulted brick ceiling and a completely renovated, yet historic space makes a wonderful respite from hot traveling days.
Giorgio welcomed us warmly, despite a late arrival, and left us with a few essential kitchen items that were just what we could use.
From the place, a short walk around Bettona reveals stunning vistas out to Assisi and beyond, and travel to Assisi, Perugia and other nearby towns is easy. When driving, we found that our nav system had a hard timing with the home's location, so make sure you get Giorgio's directions before you arrive.
I would highly recommend the spot, and think it's well worth a return visit.
Anna and Giorgio Foresti/Casa Foresti,
Beautiful town, lovely surroundings. Nice, spacious and cool house, very clean and well equiped. Sweet, hospitable and helpful hosts.
Top: end of July/beginning of August, Festival of the roasted goose. Very nice food festival in the adjeacent garden.
Tip: sunbeds in the otherwise lovely garden.
Other than that: we fully enjoyed our stay and thank you for the bottle of wine at arrival
There can be no better hosts the world over, giving both privacy and the chance to experience some of Umbria's best guided by two people who love the place and its culture. Anna and Giorgio give generously from deep wells. Their apartment is charming, full of their personal touches, and, like its owners, very accommodating. Bettona is, too!
Anna and Giorgio are wonderful hosts. The apartment is great and was plenty big for our family of three. Would work great for four, also. It's quiet, not touristy, and has a beautiful view of the surrounding valley. Assisi is only 20 minutes away and other smaller towns Montefalco, Bevagna, Spello are even closer. You want to have a car if you stay here as it's a bit remote. We had a spectacular time overall!
Staying at Anna & Giorgio's place is like staying at a warm and welcoming home. The apartment has absolutely beautiful views and is very clean. You can go out to eat or cook for yourself, everything you could ever need is there, and Anna & Giorgio are available to answer any questions you may have. They are excellent people who want you to experience life in Umbria, and that's why I came back to stay with them. They are very, very nice people and very knowledgeable about the area they live in - the different towns, the sites in the different towns - the best bakeries in the different towns and a lot of the history of the area. It's truly a beautiful place to be and wonderful people to stay with. If you've never been to Italy, stay here first!
Write a review about Jenn is now difficult because we consider her a dear friend not just a guest. Jenn is the second year that spends his holidays in our house in Bettona and meet again she was as welcome home a family person. Also this time we spent with her happy moments visiting new and old places, restaurants and hidden corners of our region. What could be more exciting and enjoyable than staying in a SPA in the midst of the Roman ruins in Assisi? However Jenn is a great person they recommend as a host to all of Airbnb.
What a delightful home, area and hosts. We had a super time in Anna and Giorgio's home. It's definitely 5 star. The apartment was enormous. The bedroom was very comfortable and bathroom very modern. We found Bettona a lovely town to explore Umbria from. Giorgio is a man with a heart of gold who took time out of his day to show us around the area. There was so much we learned that we'd never known without Giorgio.
Staying here will refresh your body and mind, it's highly recommended.

Hello, i'm Giorgio! After 33 years spent in Rome, where I studied and practiced law, I moved to Umbria to live in the countryside in a farming cooperative. After that, i managed a publishing house, a software house and a communication agency, while putting my heart and work in renewing the house in Bettona listed here on Airbnb. But I won't keep it all for me - I hope you'll come live it a little yourself!
I am a lover of traveling as well, either in Italy, Europe or Asia; I enjoy human contact and me and my family (my wife Anna, my daughter Lucilla and my son Francesco) will be happy to guide our guests, if they wish, to discover the nature, history, art and enogastronomy of this beautiful region. Hope to see you here soon!
