About this listing

Casa Foresti: an ancient house with a warm feeling, located in a quiet medieval village on top of a green hill in the center of the region. As hosts, we do our best to have our guest experience Umbria off the path - our reviews speak by themselves...

The space

Hello traveler! Looking for a cosy and elegant base to relax and explore the beautiful landscapes, tastes and cultural heritage of Umbria - the region nicknamed "The Green Heart of Italy"? We're glad you found this page, and ready to welcome you!

/// Please note: if you don't find availability for the dates you need, please consider our other wonderful apartment in the same building... it's listed under the name "14th century cute flat with garden". Thank you! ///

Guest access

"Casa Foresti" is a 4-rooms, 120sq/m apartment with garden inside a 14th century building (renovated in 2009); it's located in the historic centre of Bettona, a lovely medieval village resting on top of a green hill coated in olive groves. Finely furnished and decorated, equipped with Wi-Fi, TV, hairdryer, dishwasher, washing machine, bed linen, towels and (we hope!) everything you might need to have in your own house, it's just the perfect place for your stay, offering you...

relax in the typical barrel-valuted living room;
fun while trying your cooking skills with real italian food in the lovely kitchen;
a beautiful dining room with wide windows overlooking the ancient etruscan walls
and a small terrace on the walls for an aperitivo while admiring the sunset on the hills.

Our comfortable holiday house, with room for up to 5 people (two communicating bedrooms), is the ideal option for a pleasant stay in Umbria, ensuring you moments of rest and relax between visits to the precious historic and cultural jewels of which Umbria is rich, either in the well-known cities like Assisi and Perugia and the “minor” centres to discover.

Interaction with guests

On top of this, we - the Foresti family - really enjoy to get to know a little our guests by offering something to make their stay unique.
If we have time and if you wish to, we'll be glad to show you around some hidden spots in the local area, have you over for dinner or take you to a local winery, cheesemaker, restaurant or cultural event - obviously free of charge! My son Francesco speaks very good English and my wife Anna is available if you'd like to get some Italian cooking lessons. We'll do our best to make you feel really at home - of course without being invasive - so feel free to ask us about interesting destinations nearby, as well as restaurants or other local attractions! We live just upstairs of the apartment...

We'll be glad to help you get the best this region has to offer. Giorgio, Anna, Francesco and Lucilla Foresti are pleased to welcome you in their home for a pleasant stay in Bettona!

Other things to note

Just to be sure you won't have surprises when you arrive in Casa Foresti: being an old medieval house, the plan is circular and the two bedrooms are communicating; that means that in order to reach the living room and the bathroom, guests staying in the second bedroom can either pass through the first bedroom or through the patio (few steps outside). See the last picture (house plan).

Casa Foresti was an amazing place to spend our month in Italy. Not only did they provide us with wine and morning essentials (milk, coffee, biscuits, etc.), they also had a cot and high chair for our 7 month old son which made packing much easier. The day after we arrived, Giorgio took us on a quick tour of some of the local treasures like the winery and cheese shop. Unfortunately Anna and Giorgio were gone for most of the month that we were in Bettona, but their son Francesco was always available to answer any questions we had about the house, towns to visit, events to check out, etc. One of the absolute best things was Dulcinea Gelateria in Passaggio. We've toured around Italy and this is by far the best gelato we've had (it's also handy to know that they do take out containers too!). The house is from the 14th century so it definitely has character. The creaky floors made it tricky at times to maneuver around a sleeping baby, but the stone walls made the ridiculously hot weather bearable (it stayed a steady 22°C inside even when it was 35°C outside). The garden is beautiful with a huge variety of unique flowers. Sitting on the balcony during dusk while drinking wine was one of the best ways to end the day. Bettona was a great base to explore the small hill towns of Umbria by car.

Anna, Giorgio, and their son Fransesco were wonderful and attentive hosts! We could not have asked for a more pleasant and homey atmosphere with all the amenities (e.g. well-stocked kitchen, washing machine, dishwasher, linens, pots/pans, good books, etc.). There were gorgeous flowers lining the walkway, a terrace overlooking the country side, sage and rosemary bushes(URL HIDDEN) and an easy and convenient commute to Assisi and the Montefalco wine region(URL HIDDEN)The home has two bedrooms, one of which has its own outside entrance. However, to get to this bedroom from the inside of the home, you need to walk through the other bedroom. This was not a big problem for us since you can easily walk outside and then right back into the house through the sunroom (not the bedroom to choose if you get up a lot during the night to use the restroom). If you are looking for a quiet and reclusive getaway, this is your place. You will need a car! The town is remote and tranquil and a good "home base" to explore the Umbrian countryside. We highly recommend staying in Anna and Giorgio's home!

Anna and Giorgio's description of their ground floor apartment built into the old medieval wall of Bettona is very accurate. The apartment is far from fancy, yet utterly comfortable, for relaxing, sleeping, Italian breakfast using one of the various espresso pots, and we even managed one light dinner on a day that an excellent lunch in Perugia left us unwilling to explore further for another spectacular Italian meal! Bettona itself is peaceful and charming. Should we choose to return for a longer stay in Umbria, we may well want to make Anna and Giorgio's place our home again. Our only complaint: the two excellent, welcoming (and not terribly expensive) restaurants right in town are only open (in the off season at least) on weekends!

We didn't want to leave Bettona. It is a very small villiage which is perfectly situated for driving to Assisi and Perugia which are around 30 minutes drive away. Plus there are other small villages like Bevagna and Torredelcolle close by however you will need a car.

We were met by their son who spoke great English and gave us some great tips and information generally about how to operate everything. They provided coffee milk bread butter and other essentials for our first morning . The apartment was plenty spacious for the four of us. The beds were comfy and all linen provided. The courtyard is beautiful and in full bloom . The little town of Bettona has one of the best restaurants we have eaten in for dinner and the joke was that it was actually hard to find. This quiet town is easy to find parking and for free.

Anna and Giorgio did make us feel very welcome, they ate friendly and nice. Booking and further communications with them were always easy and they were very responsive. Anna share with us the map and her instructions were very accurate. We did struggle at the end but she came to the rescue and pick us up at a specific location. Bettona is really pretty medieval village. It has everything one needs and People is super friendly!! The apartment is really pretty and comfortable. Perfect for families with small kids (Anna even provided a baby bed and high chair) the house is very well equipped and it is exactly as described and as shown in the pictures. Anna gave us really good tips on where to go, suggested places to eat and get the feeling of Bettona. We thank Anna and Giorgio very much for their kindness!

This is one of the most amazing places I have stayed. Bettona itself is an amazing medieval village on a mountaintop in the heart of Umbria. The accommodation is superb right from the moment you walk though the garden entry to the smells of sage and rosemary and then into the home itself that is beautifully and thoughtfully appointed. It is a true home feel. Then there are the views over the forests and mountains adjacent. Finally Anna is a delight - such a wonderful and welcoming host, her extra touches and the first day's breakfast ingredients were above and beyond expectation. This is seriously one of the best decisions you can make - stay here! (and the food in Umbria is unparalleled! Including ion Bettona itself)

Hello, i'm Giorgio! After 33 years spent in Rome, where I studied and practiced law, I moved to Umbria to live in the countryside in a farming cooperative. After that, i managed a publishing house, a software house and a communication agency, while putting my heart and work in renewing the house in Bettona listed here on Airbnb. But I won't keep it all for me - I hope you'll come live it a little yourself!

I am a lover of traveling as well, either in Italy, Europe or Asia; I enjoy human contact and me and my family (my wife Anna, my daughter Lucilla and my son Francesco) will be happy to guide our guests, if they wish, to discover the nature, history, art and enogastronomy of this beautiful region. Hope to see you here soon!

A presto!
