The Space

Charming 1Bdrm/1Bath Oasis>10 min to Downtown

This one-bedroom casita is a charming, free-standing house just minutes from Reid Park and the Randolph Golf Course, 10 minutes from downtown Tucson, and 3 miles from the University of Arizona. There is also a bike path that runs directly from our house straight to the U of A and 2 bikes are available for use. Although the house is centrally-located, the street itself does not extend all the way through to any major roads, making it very peaceful and virtually silent. Fully furnished and equipped with everything you might need to make your stay as convenient as possible, this cozy retreat is the perfect place to relax and unwind at the end of the day.

Enjoy the beautiful weather in one of the rocking chairs on your front porch, or in the vine-covered gazebo near the fountain, or perhaps star-gaze by the fire pit. You might even catch a glimpse of the wild birds that frequently grace our backyard: hawks, owls, and American kestrels (the only native North American falcon) have all been known to be spotted. i have one non-allergenic dog, cairn terrier Buttercup.

The house comes with a full kitchen with a electric oven, microwave, full-size refrigerator, dishes, glasses, cookware, utensils. It also has a comfy bedroom with a ceiling fan, large dresser, walk-in closet, a queen bed with extra linens, and a private bathroom with a shower (sorry, no tub). The living room looks onto the kitchen in a "Great Room" style and (email hidden), couch, flat-screen TV, and reading area with many books to choose from.

Some of the additional amenities include off-street-parking, cable TV, Wi-Fi, central A/C and heat, and access to a laundry room onsite. The owner also lives on the property in the main house and is happy to provide you with anything that might make your stay more enjoyable.

The monsoons are just about over and the mornings and are lovely. From your patio you can get a glimpse of the Catalina mountains. Come get a dose of the desert in all of her majesty.

  • I had a wonderful month stay at Riemke's casita. It was the perfect size and had everything I needed for my stay there. Even from afar she was so accommodating and responded to any questions I had. The couple staying at her home also ensured all my needs were met. I only wish I could have met her in person! But hopefully on my next visit! Thank you Riemke for accommodating me!

  • We had a wonderful stay at Rimke's casita. It was very well appointed with lovely soaps and lotions as well as coffee beans, healthy snacks and fresh fruit. We sat outside every morning and evening to enjoy her peaceful backyard. It was hard to leave.

  • We spent a week at Riemke's casita while visiting our son who is a student at UA. The casita was clean and cozy, the kitchen stocked with staples, fruit and breakfast food and the outdoor living wonderful which made it a great place to spend time with our son! Riemke was traveling so we did not have a chance to meet her. We were greeted by her house guests who were gracious and gave us our privacy during the week. I would definitely consider staying here again.

  • We had the absolute best weekend! Jim and I were just saying while we were driving home that it felt like we had been gone for WAY more than 2 days. Thank you for the very relaxing retreat! From the goodies in the fridge to the lovely backyard, the birds singing and the firepit blazing, we had everything that we could ever want and more! We will definitely be back!

  • Couldn't ask for more. If you are looking for a quite location, charming casita, and a great hostess, you will have found it here. The location is central Tucson on a quiet street. The Casita faces Riemke's spacious backyard. Morning coffee on the porch, or in the evening cooking on the grill is a delight. It is truly like a vacation residence away from home. My wife and I spent a week in the Casita, made a quick friend with Butter (Riemke's small dog). We couldn't have been more comfortable. The Casita was spotless, well equipped, and very comfortable. We also had two quality bikes for our use. Riemke is as available as you want her to be. She is full of information and a great conversationalist but very unobtrusive and just a good neighbor. When/if back in Tucson my wife and I already know where we plan to stay.

  • Our experience was much like others - lovely outdoor area with many possibilities for enjoyment, kind compassionate generous host who warmly engages with her guests. It was unfortunate, however that we were not able to stay for our almost full week. So we missed many opportunities that beckoned in this lovely place, especially at the time of spring blooms in the backyard. Thanks, Riemke for all you did for us, you went above and beyond!

  • I had a relaxing 2 week stay at Riemke's casita, while visiting my daughter in Tucson. The casita is just as advertised, and is clean, comfortable, quiet and well located. It's nicely furnished and decorated, with all the quality amenities one would need. In addition, Riemke had provided many healthful foods including a variety of fresh fruit....fresh flowers too. The spacious yard was fully equipped for outdoor cooking and entertaining. Bird feeders attracted a variety of birds, including hummingbirds. And Buttercup is a sweet and gentle dog...good company. Riemka was eager to please, and offered good advice on local activities and outings, as well as lively conversation. I was invited to share a delicious dinner party one evening. Highly recommended. Jim

  • Due to some crazy unexpected planning I had the opportunity to stay in several different locations during a 3 week stay in Tucson. From the 1 star to the 5 star - Riemke's Casita which was the expected and planned part of the trip, was by far the most favorite! We LOVED IT! Often we were so tired that we just came home and slept at the end of our day, after catching up on some of the TV Olympics, but waking up to the lovely casita was appreciated every day. The birds were singing & the sun was shining. We were able to have breakfast at the front porch bistro set. The bed was wonderful. It was quiet. The entire place felt like home. Riemke was a wonderful hostess and had a few things stocked in the home that really added to the comfort of the location. We were always pleasantly surprised. The kitchen didn't lack for anything. The chocolate was the first thing to go! We felt very welcome. I think Riemke has thought of everything in the casita! Everything about it was fabulous. This is a place to look forward to when traveling to Tucson. Definitely Stay!

  • We were so comfortable in Riemke's cozy little oasis in the midst of the city, no city noises but the sounds of birds to wake us each morning and sweet Buttercup making her rounds each day. Despite our busy schedule and Riemke's busy schedule, we managed to get some really nice visiting time in. Riemke is the most considerate of hosts and her Casita & surrounding area reflects this. Unfortunately, we had long days and were not able to enjoy the outdoor yard as much as we would have liked. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and recommend this cozy little Casita!

  • Riemke's Casita, or "Hawthorne Heights" as she calls it, was a very nice place to stay for awhile in the Tucson area. The location is central Tucson and convenient to most of my activities including hiking, YMCAs, libraries and shopping. The casita is quite small, but efficiently designed for one or two people, especially if one uses the back yard as it is offered. The yard has at least two lounging areas with outdoor furniture including a ramada area and a firepit area. Riemke has outfitted the casita with most amenities one could need, and had enough healthy food in the casita for several days survival if it was needed. She is a most gracious host and has provided a most comfortable place to stay while on a short visit or longer stay in Tucson.

Born and raised on Rotterdam, the Netherlands in a sailing and navy family I set out to travel in my early twenties. I lived in Minnesota on a self-sustenance farm for seven years and started my own family. I have been local emergency physician for 25 years. I have lived in Tucson that entire time and know the area inside out. I am happy to give suggestions on sight seeing, restaurants and other local and historical points of interest. My passion in life is bicycling, walking, riding horses, anything outdoors, reading and my sharing it all with my friends. I host international students as a mom away from home. I love meeting people and sharing friendship and life stories. I am accompanied by my two dogs who are gentle souls. I will be working on growing my own herb and vegetable garden. and I love to cook and socialize, so if you would like to join me for a meal on the patio, let me know.
