Interaction with Guests
Your host, Michel, is a veritable fountain of knowledge of the city: the trendiest restaurants, the most romantic venues, the best excursions , guided tours, reservations for spas(we are opening our own adjacent to the riad late December 2015)
The riad is located in the oldest quarter of the Medina(historic city center), the neighborhood of the Great Foundouks: caravenserails or inns used by travellers on the Silk Roads of Africa in centuries past. Great auberges with immense courtyards and columned porticoes. The riad is just next to the Medersa Ben Youssef(a must to visit; in all the guidebooks) and the Museum of Marrakesh.
Smack in the heart of the historic city center, Dar Zelda is in walkable distance to all the monuments, gardens, restaurants, souks; short walk to the Place Djemaa El Fna. 10-minute small taxi ride to the Majorelle Gardens, the new city, Gueliz and the breath-taking Palmeraie(fantastic for golfing!)
Other Things to Note
Dar Zelda has so many return guests doubtless because Michel, your host, is so good at his vocation, having been born in a hotel on the coast of Brittany, France.
At Dar Zelda we want you to feel right at home. You can take your breakfast on the terrace as late as you wish. And choose a typical Moroccan, English(eggs/omelets) or continental breakfast. Beverages such as coffee, mint tea and orange juice are served free throughout the day.
Our stay at Dar Zelda was really enjoyable and relaxing. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the Riad itself was beautiful and clean. Breakfast on the rooftop every morning was great and the staff were more than happy to cater to our requests.
Overall we would definitely recommend staying here and would like to come back again!
We had such a great stay at Ryad Dar Zelda. Brandon arranged for us to be picked up at the airport and headed to the Medina where we were met by Michel who absolutely made our trip really special with great recommendations for places to go and information on the area. He and the team are so lovely, they make you feel really relaxed and at home. The Ryad is situated right in the Medina, very close to the Ben Youseff Medersa and the Maison de la Photographie. The whole riad has a great style to it, filled with plants and carefully chosen pieces that help you relax after you've been out all day. The terrace was beautiful, you can see the Atlas Mountains and we had some of the best food on our trip there, we would definitely stay at the Ryad Dar Zelda again, thanks guys.
All communication with Brandon when booking was great; very quick responses, helpful and eager to make our arrival as easy as possible.
We asked Brandon to arrange a collection taxi (€20, waited 20mins and had to pull over twice to fix something under the bonnet) which took us directly to the front door which we wouldn't have managed alone! [We picked up a taxi for our departure at Jemaa el Fna for 80dh.]
Dar Zelda was perfectly located for us... allowing for daytime adventures out of the Medina and a walk home of a few minutes each night after going to nearby restaurants.
The ryad is beautifully decorated and our suite was a great size and featured a stunning bath/shower and lots of piping hot water. Breakfast on the rooftop was fantastic and we'd recommend you request it here everyday!
Unfortunately, Brandon and his partner were away during our stay. Judging by other reviews I suspect we may have experienced better service if they had been around.
What a great riad! Perfect location within the Medina, nice room, good atmosphere, good breakfast and very hospitable people. I would definitely recommend this riad. Thank you!

Hello everybody! I was an exchange student to Britanny in France when I was 16, and never came back home to the states, having fell in love. I spent 2 1/2 years at the American University in Paris, 1 year at l'Universite de Versailles, studied auctioneering at Sotheby's Paris, then graduated in French and political science at the College of Charleston in SC. I worked in a famous French night club, Le Calao, for 9 years as manager, then bought and renovated this riad in Marrakech in 2001, one of the very first boutique hotels in the 'red city'. I adore Marrakech every day more, for its vibrance, colors, perfumes, cuisine, and its amazing Bedouin hospitality. This desert magical city has now stolen my heart. It will do the same for you!
