About this listing
You can't beat this 3rd/4th floor flat for location or transport connections, and such good outdoor space is also rare for this price in central London. Perfect for exploring, or for a small family staying longer. We've never had an unhappy guest.
A characterful, light-flooded 850sqft maisonette apartment only minutes' walk from the centre of London's West End and right next to 3 tube stations with 5 lines between them (and dozens of buses). 2 double bedrooms, 1 bathroom with tub and shower attachment [Note: NOT a proper power shower - but works in its own way for people of average size and height - otherwise baths recommended!], spacious living room, eat-in fully-equipped kitchen that opens out onto a large planted terrace. All bills included, with hi-speed wi-fi and cable tv, but no phone. Near to Euston and Fitzrovia, as well as Regents Park, this is the perfect base for exploring both central and north London. On top floor of converted 18th century house, this home is packed with beautiful antiques and books, and is surprisingly quiet despite its location. No good for people with bad knees however. Owners (British, Australian and American - and fluent in several European languages) are usually near at hand if you need anything. Note for fans of the new Sherlock Holmes series: it is filmed directly across the street!
Everything is private except the common stairs up to the flat and nothing is off limits except disturbing the downstairs neighbours.
Interaction with Guests
We are only about 30 mins bus-ride away, or a 10 minute taxi in an emergency, and always happy to take calls or emails to help guests settle in or find their way. It is very rare that we can't be there to great guests and show them the flat when they arrive.
This is a diverse Central London neighbourhood, busy with office workers and students during the day but not overly noisy. Plenty of supermarkets, 24 hour shops and restaurants (especially London's best cheap veggie Indians), it is always pretty safe because you are never alone on a street. It is just metres outside the central 'congestion zone', and connects to every direction of London equally well. Walking distance from many tourist sites, such as the British Museum or Regents Park, and directly across the street from a Sherlock tourist spot...but at the same time it's 'real' London, not tourist fake.
Can not beat the transport connections of this flat. I leave guests to check out the nearby tube lines (from Warren Street, Euston Square, Euston, Kings Cross) and bus routes to verify this. Never takes more than 30 minutes to get anywhere central-ish, if you know your route.
Other Things to Note
We like to make sure that the flat really will be suitable for our guests, so we always like a conversation, no matter how brief, before we 'pre-approve'. Telling us a little about yourself, your group/family, and the purpose of your trip when you make an enquiry is very useful!
No smoking, no pets, no parties or guests other than those named and approved. Other than that, just treat it like your own home please... And be considerate of the neighbours in terms of noise when coming in and out of the "common parts". We have written a brief 2-page "licence agreement" containing a more detailed break down of owner/guest responsibilities that we usually ask those staying for longer periods to sign and return prior to arrival.
One set of keys provided by owner, who will receive you upon arrival. A second set can be provided upon request.
