An Smachtlann (built 1798) is one of the oldest houses in Kenmare and was restored by us in 2013. You'll have sole use of our stone built guest cottage which is cute and cosy and just 1 minute walk from the best restaurants in town.
The front of the cottage has been meticulously restored stone by stone and features a stable door which opens onto the garden area which is enclosed and private from the public.
Our house is a beautiful example of Irish Georgian architecture and has been shortlisted for an award this year for the renovation we have completed. You will be staying in the stone cottage at the back of the house where you have your own little galley kitchen, living room and shower room. Upstairs there is a double room and a good size single room which can have 2 singles at a squeeze if you need them. You have a private front door and can come and go as you like.
The main house is generally private. You have free use of the private garden area for eating/ drinks outside.
Interaction with Guests
Someone will be there to show you around and can send you on information about Kenmare and the house. Most of the time my mother in law will be resident who is very hospitable and knows a lot of things about the area. We leave tea, coffee and milk in the fridge as well as some basic breakfast goods.
The people, the food and the environment are all very special in Kenmare. There are loads of things to visit within a short drive or you can just wander around town. Reenagross park is just across the road, the pier is 5 minutes walk away, the market also 5 minutes walk and some amazing places to eat can be found just out of the back door!
Car park is just opposite or along the street and is free.
Other Things to Note
The cottage kitchen which has a dishwasher, hob, fridge and oven. You are welcome to cook if you would like but there is limited preparation space. Our WIFI signal isn't really strong enough for the cottage itself but if you need to download emails you can just pop into the yard and you'll get signal from our house router.
No smoking inside please. And sorry but no hen/stag parties!

Lovely little cottage in a fantastic location.
I've stayed in Kenmare more times than I care to remember, as I do some work there and a place that feels like a home from home is what I look for. This cottage is the best location for the restaurants in the town, with my favourites being The Horseshoe ( the lamb is fantastic) and The Charcoal Grill that serves fantastic steaks. But there are many many other great restaurants nearby.
Also, just down the road is my favourite bar, Crowley's.
I'm looking forward to staying there again in January :)
Lovely townhouse in a lovely town. Home has been renovated was perfectly clean and tidy and has all the comforts. Extremely well located in the center of town with easy access to pubs and shops. We drove and parking wasn't an issue at this more quiet time of year. We didn't meet Kirstin but she is very prompt to respond to any questions and made arrangements for our arrival and pick up of keys. We were met by Julia and given every assistance so many thanks to her and to Kirstin for hosting.
We really enjoyed our time in the cottage, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and enjoyed the breakfast that was provided, the cottage is cosy and has so much character we loved it, it is in a great location in Kenmare where everything is in walking distance, we loved the local pubs and friendly Irish people, a fantastic place to visit!
Kirstin's cottage was really cosy and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There was bread, butter and a selection of jams in the kitchen, together with fresh coffee, cereals and muesli for breakfast which was lovely. The cottage was spotlessly clean and clearly recently renovated. The main bedroom is quite spacious and the bed was comfortable. The location of the cottage couldn't be better: right in the centre of the pretty town of Kenmare and adjacent to many restaurants and pubs. We will definitely stay here on our next visit to Kenmare!
