Private sunny room in the heart of Harlem available in large apartment in a building erected in 1933 that now has landmark status. The apartment is located in Sugarhill, an historic area of Harlem on the Upper Westside of NYC. The room is about 100 sq ft with a built-in floor-to-ceiling closet, twin size bed, desk and chair, and lounge chair. I have 2 additional bedrooms listed on airbnb. I open my space to people like you who are in need of short-term accommodations while in NYC for work, pleasure, or both. If you book one of my rooms, there may be others treavelers in my apartment upon your arrival. So If you book one of my rooms, please be trusting and open to the marvelous opportunity to get to know new people. The apt decor is mid-century modern. I am a fashion designer and often work from home in my studio. I have a lovely little cat named Missy. The neighborhood is undergoing gentrification and has an eclectic mix of artists, and professionals of various income levels and ethnicities.
Jackie Robinson Park, designated an Historic Harlem Park, is one block away. The park includes an amphitheater for summer concerts and a public swimming pool. There are grocery stores, banks, and restaurants within a few blocks. The apartment is located on the block of an express A/D and local C/B subway train stops making trip to mid and lower Manhattan short (15-30 minutes) and easy. Wireless internet is included. No couples (one person per room), no guests, no smokers, and no drugs.
I have 2 additional rooms available. So parties of up to 3 who wish to each have a private room in the same apartment may book with me. Please look to the left and see "My Other Listings"
Kimberly is a very nice, friendly and helpful. Her apartment is at a super convenient location. The subway station is right next door and the express A train will let you reach anything in a very short time.
Possibly there was some mix up with my reservation, because the room I got was definitively not 100 sq (way smaller) and did not have a desk. It was just a relatively small room, with a small bed, and only one chair and a built-in closet. It was definitely sunny, unfortunately also very loud as the apartment is on the first floor (Europe)/second floor (US) on a very very busy intersection.
To sum up, it is a great base from where to explore the city , but possibly not ideal if you want/need to spend time in the apartment and are senstive to noise.
Kim is an excellent host! The location is easy to find and the room was very comfortable. I had a great stay.
Kimberly is very friendly. The appartment is very close to the express lines to downtown. Considering the location, Kimberly propose a very affordable room.Excellent experience for people who loves New York.
It was awesome. Kimberly is a friendly and helpful host.
The reservation was canceled the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
I liked Kim since the first time I saw her. She was really helpful, likable, easygoing and patient with me and my imperfect english. The building where this apartment is located is old and a bit dirty sometimes, but my stay in it has always been safe and convinient. We need to watch out for the maintenance of the cleaness (dishes, restroom and olther common spaces) and I appreciated the efforts in doing that. The subway is in the corner (lines A, B, C and D) and you can find all you need in few blocks away (laundry, supermarkets, wineries, banks). So, I really recommend Kim's apartment as a good stay in NYC.
Pros: Kim is a very nice and helpful host and her apartment is at a very convenient location. The subway station is right in front of the door and you can be in Midtown in 20mins. Everything you need is around the corner. Her cat is really cute (but you barely see her) :)
Cons: Due to a large intersection it is very loud at night, so you should bring earplugs if you aren't used to NYC's noise! The rooms are not cozy at all and the apartment was quite dirty while I was there, so I would not recommend longer stays. Also there is no aircon or window fan, so it gets really hot in summer!
I would probably not stay there again.
Kimberly is a great host. The room is cozy and sparkling clean, in a great apartment she's lived in and stylishly decorated over many years of living there. The building is on a busy corner exactly on top of an A Train stop, which besides being extra practical for reaching downtown Manhattan in a few minutes, provides for that late night snack in a choice of 24/7 Delis directly across the street. Great base from where to explore the city!
