One double bed upstairs in private home. Bathroom for their use is downstairs. Foam mattress available on the floor if a double bed is not a good sharing option.
Your hosts are seasoned international travelers who enjoy meeting and hosting others.
We do have 2 cats for those who have concerns about allergies.
We make our kitchen available to those guests who would like to make their own meals. We provide coffee or tea but the incidence of dietary restrictions is so great these days that we choose not to provide breakfast. Also our morning schedules are quite variable so we are not always available.
I like to know if people are planning on food prep so I can make room in the fridge and am happy to share the incidentals like oil, spices, sugar, etc.
Living room and TV room is open to them as well.
Interaction with Guests
We are happy to share our whole home with guests - they are welcome to our kitchen and living areas - but are also respectful of the fact that some folks need to have their own space. We always enjoy some conversation and if we need our own space are upfront about communicating that.
We also try not to be too demanding on their time as we realize they have come to the area with specific events to attend - but this can be a challenge as our curiosity leads us to want to know them better. AirBNB is such a good way to remind us all that there are lots of good and interesting people in the world!
Quiet. Open space. Easy access into Middlebury.
Close to ski areas for winter fun and to Lake Champlain or Lake Dunmore for summer recreation.
Sadly not! This is semi-rural Vermont!
Other Things to Note
We are willing to rent the whole house out for events at Middlebury College. The house could accommodate 3 couples - one room with king-size bed, one queen and one double. Mattresses can also be put on the floor if here are more folks. Please contact me for pricing.
We like to know an approximate arrival time so that we can arrange to be here to welcome you. Communicating any delays makes things go smoother for us but we are understanding about the vagaries of travel.
Otherwise we are not too rule oriented - clean up after yourself in the kitchen, ask for what you need to make your visit more comfortable, keep the shower curtain in so the floor stays reasonably dry, and no need to make the bed when you leave as we do change the sheets for the next visitor!
Oh yes, no smoking! And no perfumes, aftershave or strong smelling toiletries please.
I had to find a place for three days on short notice that was close to my son's swim championships at local college, where I could get a good night's sleep and a hot shower. This place fit the bill. Wendy and Glen are low key, intelligent people (which made sense after learning they had Jersey roots like me) and I enjoyed our chats. Wendy provided water for bedside and helped me care for flowers I bought for the event (so they didn't die on the way there). The driveway was tricky for my rear wheel drive car with the ice and snow, but then again, it is Vermont in the winter. I have two cats, so their two were purrfectly normal for me. Folks, this is a home, so if you're looking for a hotel then it may not be for you. Otherwise, it was a good first Airbnb experience for me. Thanks for sharing your place with this weary traveler.
Wendy and her husband are very nice and made me feel welcome. My travel schedule got a bit screwed up on the way in and they were very nice about communicating with me and accommodating when I ended up arriving late.
They provided plenty of blankets and a bottle of water and glass next to the bed--handy in the cold dry air of a VT winter! They provided their WiFi password and offered me tea before bed (although I declined).
The house is close to Middlebury and easy to find. They didn't mind when I came back to the house to kill a couple hours between events.
The room was clean but did have some of their stuff stored in a couple corners. If you're looking for a hotel feel this is not it; but if you're looking to stay with some wonderfully nice authentic Vermonters, this is a great option. I would definitely stay there again.
I felt very comfortable in Wendy & Glen's home. They are warmhearted & openminded folks (kindred spirits!) who made the effort to make me feel welcome but gave me breathingspace as well.
Two sweet cats & lots of nice house plants in the cozy living room made a nice spot for reading or checking emails.
Little carpeted meditation room at top of stairs was perfect for stretching out after long days backcountry skiing on the Catamount (website hidden) was in the den which was directly under bedroom but they were courteous to turn volume down when I was going to sleep, & even provided one of the best white noise machines I've heard, a light sleeper such as myself would sleep well here!
Our experience (Dad and myself) with Mrs. Wendy and her husband was perfect. They allowed us into their very warm and welcoming home (very well decorated as well). We stayed in their guest room that they prepared for us with wifi instructions and 2 comfortable places to sleep. We also had access to their tv and got to watch a football game with them as well. I strongly recommend paying a visit to the Goodwins, you will not regret it.
Wendy and her husband were warm, friendly hosts with green thumbs. I arrived on a wet, rainy afternoon and although Wendy was busy, she offered me hot tea and left a note with details for the room. I slept well in the cozy upstairs bedroom. The space heater came in handy. Fresh flowers in the room were a nice touch. I bought coffee and a few breakfast items from the local Natural Foods store and was able to use their coffee pot and store a few items in the kitchen refrigerator. The brightly painted downstairs bathroom was clean. The house is only 9 minutes by car to Middlebury College.
We so enjoyed our stay at Wendy's home in Middlebury. There is so much character and you couldn't ask for a better location! Great to be back in Vermont, and even better to be sharing our visit with these two wonderful people.
We arrived at Wendy's house on a beautiful fall afternoon; a note on the door greeted us and invited us in to this quaint country home off a lightly traveled road. The house reflects Wendy's welcoming personality: Knick-knacks on the shelves, lots of books and fresh flowers in our upstairs room. Two friendly cats wander the house and if you leave the bedroom door open, they might join you at night.
The room is at the top of the stairs; it has some shelf space and a comfortable double bed. The bathroom is downstairs--a slight drawback--but both the bedroom and the bathroom are neat and clean. Wi-fi connection is reliable and fast. If you have some time, you might even ask to schedule an acupuncture treatment with Wendy.
I'm an acupuncturist, my husband is a musician. We are both 62 years old - good conversationalists, travelers, easy and respectful company. We like the outdoors and a natural life - but sometimes enjoy a bit of city excitement.
