About this listing

Relax on the porch of this lovely home in Housatonic, an old mill town hamlet at the north end of hopping Great Barrington, Mass. Our tall-trees neighborhood is at a quiet center of all the Southern Berkshire action with a pub, corner market and art galleries right down the street.
The room has a comfortable double bed, shared bath, wi-fi, cable TV, a great book selection, and kitchen access. Bring some snacks to tide you over in case I don't have what you need -- I can offer tea, coffee and bagels but generally you're on your own for eats and I can recommend!
We are located off Route 183 just south of Norman Rockwell Museum, Chesterwood, and Tanglewood, two blocks to the Housatonic River and just north of Great Barrington proper.
We are in the midst of breathtaking cycling, hiking and walking areas in Alford, Great Barrington and SheffieldGreat food, drink and music are nearby at the Brick House Pub, Red Lion Inn, and eat spots in downtown Great Barrington. I am an active cyclist with great recommendations for rides and routes in this region.
Come and go at your leisure.

Did not meet host. She was out of town. Not what I expected . cafe at Pleasant an Main was a gem!
Ellen is a helpful, friendly, and accommodating host. She was very flexible with arrival time. She gave us good recommendations for places to visit and eat. She walked us through a great route for our bicycle ride. And she let us keep our car and bags at the house until after check-out times--and let us use the shower, very important after said bike ride.
The house is an charming, old country cottage in a quiet, pleasant neighborhood which served as a perfect jumping off point for all of our Berkshire activities. The scenery was beautiful. And nearby Great Barrington is very charming, with plenty of restaurants and interesting shops.
Along with the charms of being an older cottage, the house had a few of the accompanying downsides. And the bedroom, while kept clean, was a bit ill-equipped. But these things didn't keep us from appreciating Ellen's house and hospitality as a base for our Berkshire visit.
Ellen and her son Matt were lovely hosts; I felt at home, comfortable and welcome. Ellen also went out of her way more than once to help me with local directions, which was great. I would certainly stay again.
About the Host, Ellen
I am a busy professional living and working in the coolest small town in America (and its secret village of Housatonic). As an avid hiker and cyclist, I can direct you to the backroads (Tanglewood traffic work-arounds) and secret spots you might not find on the local tourist maps. I am a great advocate for this special little corner of the world. My house has a charming and private back yard, it's filled with books, original art and a sweet front porch for hanging around. My house is short walk to the charming little village of Housatonic, on the banks of the Housatonic River, near great hiking locations, Taft Farms, Project Native, local galleries and eateries. Make yourself comfortable!
