The space
Casa Kuku is a unique artist-built retreat in Rincon, Puerto Rico—a tropical escape created in 2010 by painter Kikuo to leave behind the gray New York winters. Inspired by the island’s vibrant colors, lush gardens, and sweeping ocean views, this home was designed as a sanctuary to connect with nature, the sky, and the sea. Original paintings by Kikuo are featured throughout the home, offering guests a gallery-like experience with pieces from multiple artistic periods.
Architect Sarah Strauss of B XS Archiitect(Brooklyn, NY) designed Casa Kuku with a long east-west layout that captures the cooling Caribbean trade winds. The north hallway, influenced by Kikuo’s travels and the monastic walkways of southern Spain, features vent-block chevron patterns that filter light and create privacy. Indoor-outdoor living is central to the design, with walls that open to the tropical climate and a lower level dedicated to hammocks and fern gardens.

We do not have a television.
Casa Kuku overlooks a lush valley full of wildlife. Guests often spot trupials, red-tailed hawks, herons, hummingbirds, iguanas, and tropical plants from the deck or garden. Birdwatching was one of Kikuo’s passions, and this home remains a haven for nature lovers.
Saltwater Lap Pool
The long saltwater pool mirrors the home’s architectural proportions and is ideal for lap swimming. The deep end reaches eight feet. Guests can relax on the chaise loungers or enjoy shaded seating beneath the house. The soft saltwater provides a gentle, luxurious swimming experience.
Guest Capacity
This property sleeps a maximum of six guests.

Guests are welcome to use all areas of the property, except for the roof.
Please DO NOT go up on the roof. It is not secure and has solar panels and fragile equipment up there.

Checkout Instructions
Before departing, please wash any used dishes and take out the trash. There are three trash barrels at the end of the driveway secured with bungee cords. The lock on the barrels is decorative—simply unhook the bungees and place your trash inside. Turn off AC units and lights. Lock up and put the keys in the lockbox.
A Note About the Neighborhood
We have a long-term local resident who occasionally walks through the property. He is harmless and keeps to himself, but you may notice him passing by. He sometimes goes through the outdoor trash barrels, which is why they are secured. If you see a trash bag placed next to a barrel, please notify us and we will have it taken care of right away.

We are located on the western point of Puerto Rico:
• 2.5 hours from San Juan Airport (SJU)
• 35 minutes from Aguadilla (BQN) and Mayagüez (MAZ)
• 1.5 hours from Ponce Airport (PSE)
To avoid the drive from San Juan, Cape Air offers multiple daily flights from SJU to MAZ.

Casa Kuku is ideally located just a short drive from all of Rincon’s top beaches. Sandy Beach is only three minutes away, and Domes, Maria’s, Dogman’s, and Steps Beach are all within a five-minute drive. Two major grocery stores, as well as local restaurants, bars, cafés, and beachside spots, are also less than five minutes from the house.
