The Space

A full studio-sized room (250+ sf) with ensuite bathroom, fully airconditioned and furnished, home-office ready (plug in and work away, there's a multifunction printer and a 32" HD screen), and all the home amenities you might need — unlimited high-speed WiFi, full kitchen (including microwave, convection oven, and your own bar fridge!) and laundry. There's street parking right downstairs, great food all around, and the walk from bed to street takes only ten seconds.

Guest Access

The room's effectively a standalone studio (it's the master bedroom of a three-bedroom shophouse) with its own bathroom, TV, and even fridge, but you're also welcome to use the rest of the house — the living lounge, entertainment den, office-studio-library, or kitchen with garden. Make yourself at home!

Interaction with Guests

As much or as little as you like — we're friendly, yet understand we all need our headspace sometimes. And like our guests, we're also travelers, so every experience can be a little different.

We've given our guests impromptu tours (sightseeing or shopping), brought guests to pop-up parties, helped arrange tickets, recommended real estate agents, and even set up business meetings. The shophouse has hosted filmmakers, curators, artists, writers, musicians, entrepreneurs, and all sorts of buzzy sociocreative activity — salons, parties, candlelit dinners, exhibitions, film shoots, social gaming nights, and more!

There's always a new story in this space — you just might be part of the next one. We certainly hope so :)

The Neighborhood

The location: a charming, small lane just off Club St with an incredible variety of restaurants and cafes at your doorstep, in historic Chinatown and right next to Singapore's bustling central business district, set in a delightfully walkable neighborhood full of heritage, temples, coffee shops, and surprises. Club St is the busiest pedestrian-street party in Singapore every weekend night, and it's less than a minute's walk away.

Getting around

We're a few minutes walk away from 4 out of Singapore's 5 MRT lines — it's a 3 min walk to Telok Ayer MRT (blue Downtown Line), 5 min walk to Chinatown MRT (purple Northeast Line), 7 min walk to Raffles Place MRT (red North-South and green East-West lines, that also goes to the airport in ~40 mins). You can also get a bus to pretty much anywhere in the city from here, and most of downtown is within a 30-minute walking radius. Taxis are also plentiful and easy (lots of people take cabs into the city, so they're usually freed up by the time they get here).

  • Samuel was an excellent host. The room was just as I expected, right at the end of Club St, which is a great eating out street on the weekend. At the top end of the street (not near the apartment) they even close it off on the weekends, creating a great street atmosphere. Samuel is a polite quiet host who is happy to help you out with anything you need. You have your own bathroom and bar fridge, and all Samuel asks is that you pay it forward and refill the fridge before you leave.

The room looks exactly like the picture, and you can let the tropical air in via the latch windows any time you want. (If you don't then the room also has 2 split system air conditioners)

If you want a room near the action, right near the train station, right on the edge of Chinatown, with your own bathroom and fridge then this is for you.

  • Highly recommended for visitors or anyone on a short business trip who's tired to hotels and high rise condos. Sam's place is very convenient and comfortable. It's convenient to walk to China Town and other hot spots like T Pagar, Duxton Hill or bars and restaurants on Club Street or Amoy. It's on the end of Club Street so you don't get the rowdy noise of bars in the main part. The room is comfortable with a great feel of staying in an authentic Singapore shop house with nice wood flooring and a big bed. Sam is a friendly, very accomodating host and made my stay easy and smooth. Hope to stay again for sure.

  • This was our first experience with Air bnb and it was terrific! If future experiences are anything like this, then we are lucky. We were greeted on arrival by the lovely Linda, Samuel's housemate. She was very welcoming and gave us an in depth run down of places to go in Singapore.
The room itself is exactly as presented in the photos. It is beautifully decorated (unsurprising, considering it is a house full of artists and designers!) and kept extremely clean. It was a very large and bright room and very pleasant to stay in. It did get a little noisy at night as there is a bar near to the apartment, but it was not an issue for us. If you are used to city noise, you will be fine!
The location of the apartment is perfect! We thought Chinatown was the best place to be based. Everything about this bnb was great!
If we were to return to Singapore we would not stay anywhere else!
Thank you Samuel, Linda and Philippe for your hospitality.

  • We had an exceptional stay with Sam and Philip! They were most welcoming, flexible, and engaging hosts, who helped us to orient to our new home in Singapore. Through local recommendations, cooking and hanging around with us, and introducing us to their friends, they could not have made this move any easier on us! We are so grateful to have stayed with them our first week here, and hope that we will remain in touch long after, as they are not only respectful, thoughtful, and kind people, but also extremely open and interesting. And, the apartment itself is a rare find in SG, truly a gem of a place! A historical site, but well kept up, beautifully decorated, with anything you might need. We recommend this airbnb without reservation!

  • That was easy! Sam went over and above to help us organise our stay over the new year period and everything worked out great. The room is in a ideal position, clean, bright… the bed was good, air con, bathroom - everything was excellent.

In short, we were really happy with our stay and I'd recommend this room to anyone visiting Singapore.

  • I enjoy staying at Sam's place. The location is great (less than 5 mins walk to the MRT station). The room is very clean and spacious and it comes with its own bathroom. We stayed there over the Christmas break and we had the whole house to ourselves!

  • I had a fantastic stay at Sam's funky shophouse. Sam and his flatmates are super friendly and welcoming. The apartment is in a very convenient location - walking distance to CBD, great restaurants, bars and Chinatown. Can't think of many locations which offer the same range of dining, entertainment and cultural options so close to public transport and downtown.

The room is enormous, with a good size bed, lots of light and typical shophouse character. You definitely feel connected to the neighbourhood being in a quieter side street off a main entertainment area. Definitely recommend it and would stay again!

  • I highly recommend this place to stay. I didn't notice that the room has a private bathroom when booked, but it has. Sam, Fillip and Linda are really kind and helpful hosts. The location is very convenient, close to Chinatown, Club street and Clarke Quay. The room is light with two big windows. Singapore is a very interesting place, I would definitely come back for a longer term.

  • Samuel and friends looked after our design intern from the UK for three weeks. He absolutely loved it..! (email hidden) to stay really enriched his experience of Singapore, and you really can't get a better location than this. We're very grateful that Samuel shared his lovely home. I'm sure others will be just as delighted. T>
