Gary's place is a cool little cottage a few blocks back from the Grace Bay beach. It is the perfect place for a group of 3-4 people who want their own space to enjoy the Turks - particularly well suited for folks on a kiting or diving trip, as there's plenty of room for everyone to keep their equipment. Bedrooms and bathrooms were nothing special, but comfortable and clean. The kitchen is great for cooking and there is a barbecue which we used to good effect on a few evenings. Probably the best part about the cottage is the outdoor patio that has mesh to keep bugs out, but lets you enjoy the wonderful weather... also, the pool and patio area are well enclosed by trees and plants that give you great privacy to enjoy the island as if it were your own.
The cottage was probably constructed in the 60's or 70's, so it won't be as nicely finished as the nearby resorts, but it gives you more privacy and flexibility.
One thing to note is that they charge extra for electricity usage - they start you with $100 credit for the entire week, but we ended up using $240, so we had to pay an additional $140 for the week. It's worth noting that we only used A/C at night, cooling the rooms to a target of 20 degrees celsius... so I don't think we were excessive. If you want A/C you will pay a little more for it. Overall it seemed to be pretty good value relative to the other options on the island.
One last note for people new to the Turks is that all groceries on the island are crazy expensive... you may as well shop at the local grocery store, as going further into town (providenciales) won't actually save much money. We thought it would, so we tried this, but were shocked to find a 24 of beer costs $50-60 just about anywhere you go. Also, rent scooters one day to get around the island... well worth it. You can get one for 24-hours for ~$35... just past the 7 stars resort.
This place was great! Fabulous outdoor space and just minutes from the beach. Linda, the property manager, was very helpful and provided a lot of information about the area upon arrival. Everyone was very responsive and set us up for a really fun trip.
