The beach cottage is just 3 blocks from the beach, in the eclectic Ocean Beach community, with great coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping just steps away. The local way to roll? Grab one of the beach cruisers and cruise the boardwalk!
Greetings! This home is a gem in Ocean Beach. A one bedroom private cottage 3 blocks from the beach, and 3 blocks from Newport Ave, the main strip in OB teeming with live music, restaurants, bars, and shopping. There is easy access to public transportation and freeways. The neighborhood is safe and quiet. The house is awesome, with a private backyard, wood floors, 2 beach cruiser bikes with locks for you to use, wireless internet, desk/printer, cable TV and DVD player, and home stereo with cable to plug in your iPod or phone.
YOUR HOME: the master bedroom has a queen size bed, designer matching furniture, and private entrance to the bathroom. There is also a super comfy, high-quality futon couch that can be converted into a second full-size bed. Clean linen and a clean towel will be waiting for you when you check in. The backyard has a BBQ and chairs for evening dinners al fresca.
PERKS: I have been hosting people for over 7 years and will provide you with a list of local hidden gems to eat and explore when you check-in. You will access to my two beach cruiser bicycles and my surfboard (only for experienced surfers, deposit required). You will be able to call me at anytime if you have any questions, or want some great ideas on what to do.
THINGS TO NOTE:
1) AIRPLANES: flights go directly over the entire Ocean Beach and Point Loma areas, and you can hear the flights go overhead. It's never bothered me, and there aren't many flights at night, but just a heads up.
2) CLOSET SPACE: this is my personal home, and unfortunately the cottage does not have a lot of storage, so closet and drawer space is limited, but provides some space to store your things.
3) CABLE TV: I don't watch TV at all, and therefore have a very basic package. Channels are limited... to motivate you to get outside and enjoy the beach!
ABOUT ME: I own my own business called Green Truck, a sustainable food truck that runs off veggie oil and biodiesel, serving handmade street food made from organic ingredients sourced from local organic farms. I have a house in Venice Beach as well, which is why my home in Ocean Beach is available.
All my guests have given me rave reviews. I look forward to making you another one of my happy "customers"! Email me with any questions you may have.
Interaction with Guests
Typically you will check yourself in, a key will be waiting for you in a specified location. However, I am always available on my cell by text for questions and tips on where to go.
Ocean Beach is a laid-back, eclectic beach community with tons of great shopping and restaurants within walking distance of the cottage.
PARKING: there is public street parking all around the cottage, which isn't an issue as long as you park before 7pm. Beware late night parking may take a while to find a spot.
You are welcome to use the two beach cruiser bikes, but there is also a bus stop right outside the house to get you directly to downtown San Diego and anywhere else you'd like to go.
Only a few rules (I hate rules!). No smoking in the house, but on the front or back porch is fine. Please be as neat as possible, and leave the place as you found it. Always lock the bikes if you use them. Otherwise, my only rule is make yourself at home. Mi casa es su casa!
David was extremely welcoming. He left a list of suggested places to go for food/drinks/entertainment and it was on point. Perfect location to shops and the beach. Very cool part of San Diego. The place was clean and felt like home. Comfortable bed was an added plus.
Myself and two girlfriends had an amazing trip at David's beach cottage. The location was amazing, very close to conveniences like CVS/Rite Aid, ATMs, and very close to the many amazing restaurants and bars in OB. We were very happy to have stayed in OB - we found it less touristy than other areas of San Diego and loved the vibe. There were beach towels in the apartment which was great! We used the bikes for a 10 mile (each way!) journey to La Jolla and they were great! For reference we had a local bike shop check the tire pressures before we left, and they were great, so as of 4/6/15 the bikes are in great condition! The wifi was excellent and we loved having the aux cable for music. We couldn't get the futon to open up, but didn't really need it as a bed, I just slept on it as a couch. That was probably us just being jet lagged and not putting much effort into figuring it out ;) There's no AC so this would probably be very warm in the summer, but for spring it was great! The airplane noise is definitely noticeable. We are all heavier sleepers so we slept through it, but if you are a light sleeper it will definitely wake you. It's quite loud. Shutting the windows helps. Or bring ear plugs! David was responsive and let us check in early and offered to let us leave our bags in the backyard so we could go around without them. We ended up using San Diego Airport Luggage Storage instead which was well worth the money to have our luggage picked up and stored all day then delivered to us at the airport. David was very accommodating and didn't hate us when we were running late and checked out a half hour later than we were supposed to. Thank you very much David for letting us stay in your cottage! 10/10 would recommend to a friend :)
The cottage is exactly as described; very cozy and perfect for one or two people. It's really close to the beach but far enough so there isn't too much traffic/noise. The neighborhood has a lot of character and is definitely worth checking out. Also the bed is unbelievably comfortable.
This was a nice Ocean Beach cottage. Only a couple blocks to the beach and to Newport and Cable shops and restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage and in the neighborhood.
David is the host with the most. Ocean beach is perfect, & his place was beautiful as well as fantastically located. I have not a single complaint, this guy is awesome & you should definitely stay there. Thanks again man!
I keep getting SO LUCKY with our airbnb location choices. Ocean Beach is this awesome little hippie beach town. Its the only beach town I've been to that seemed to be full of more locals then tourists. David's cottage gave us a complete local experience. It was clean and comfortable and totally adorbs. It was small but I think the pics and description are completely accurate. David was communicative and checked on us via text multiple times during our stay - he is super nice and I am jealous of his whole life! My only disappointment was that we never found a chance to check out his awesome food truck. ;) I would highly recommend this home and this city. San Diego rocks, Ocean Beach rocks, the cottage rocks, David rocks.
We really enjoyed staying at David's beach cottage in Ocean Beach. The cottage is a perfect size for two people, and very private. The location is great; we walked to the beach every morning. We really enjoyed having two bikes available at no extra charge. The kitchen is very well outfitted for a small place. Thanks for a great stay, David!
I'm a musician, surfer, and overall fun-loving responsible person. I own a business called Green Truck, a veg-oil powered food truck and catering business serving up hand made gourmet food sourced from local organic farms. Therefore, I'm always busy and out and about!
I've traveled to New Zealand, Ireland, London, many parts of Mexico, Costa Rica, and all over the states. I like to experience the raw, local flavor of places. I've been an avid user and supporter of Couch Surfing, and really do love being a host.
I love music, I am a singer/songwriter and play shows locally in San Diego and love seeing live music. Some of my favorites are Dave Matthews Band, Sean Hayes, Xavier Rudd, De La Soul, Bela Fleck, The Black Keys, Ray Charles.... so many it's hard to list!
