About this listing
Our cozy but relatively spacious one bedroom apartment in a forested setting provides guests with privacy as well as close proximity to the wonders of Cambria including Hearst Castle and area wineries. Stay a couple nights and enjoy our retreat!
Ours is a very cute 1 bedroom cottage apartment on a wooded property adjacent to an attractive main house. The apartment is completely furnished, with a private, secure entrance, private bath (shower), king bed, queen futon in the living area, Wi-Fi, Direc tv and Netflix (we now have a flat screen), and small kitchenette.
--Breakfast treats and snacks
--Beverages that include assorted teas, coffees, cocoa, juice and milk
--Satellite tv (LCD and DVD) and Netflix
--Full size refrigerator
--Keurig and regular cofee maker
--2 burner stovetop (no oven)
--Electric fireplace and also thermostat controlled gas
--Private entrance with keyless loss (code provided)
The cottage apartment is adjacent to a large community deck/patio with outdoor furniture. Beyond that is a walkway to expansive grounds with fruit and pine trees and other shrubbery. (See the geodesic dome we built!) The parking is by the street (but on our property) and just a short walk up well lit outside stairs from the apartment.
Upon your arrival we will deliver to your door a bottle of local wine or sparkling cider. (It's so nice to have refreshments when you arrive after a long drive!).
We have over ten years experience running a full service, award winning homestay Bed and Breakfast. (Excellent reviews may be found at various hosting sites on the web). We can advise you on wine tours (there are dozens of wineries within 35 miles). You are one mile to a vast 400 acre waterside nature preserve (Fiscalini Ranch) which has trails and boardwalks and a view of otters, sea birds and forest animals (directions provided). You are also only one mile to town and dozens of fine restaurants and delightful shops.
The cottage apartment is only two blocks off Highway 1, which is the route you take north 8 miles to fabulous Hearst Castle--and another 3 miles beyond that to view the impressive elephant seals (along the way you may see zebras!) 17 miles south is Cayucos, one of California's last "funky beach towns." There is even public transportation one block away into San Luis Obispo, our local college town. (If you just want to stay in the neighborhood part of the time, there are impressive architectural styles, deer and a flock of wild turkeys.)
There is room for a well behaved child. We're sorry but we can't have pets and we do run an entirely smoke-free establishment.
At this time we require two night reservations on both weeknights as well as weekends. Reserve early for holiday periods! There's PLENTY to do in Cambria and environs for two nights/day, you'll see!!
We look forward to making your visit to our Central Coast "heaven" a memorable and relaxing one.
Adjacent to your apartment is a spacious community deck with comfortable chairs. You also are invited to roam our grounds with pine trees (including redwoods), fruit trees, and flowering plants.
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as you would prefer.
The eclectic mix of architectural styles, the views of the surrounding hills, the wildlife (a flock of turkeys, deer), the relative nearness of the beach, the friendliness of neighbors--we have it all!
1 mile to our Village
7-8 miles Hearst Castle and Elephant Seals look out
Right around corner from us bus runs several times daily to San Luis Obispo
Other Things to Note
Our bathrooms have hair dryers, shampoos, body washes, and conditioners and lots of toiletry items in general. Don't be reluctant to ask us if you need something. Most guests are surprised how many amenities we provide--free.
Highway 1 (PCH) travelers--Please note!! If you are coming south be sure not to leave Monterey any later than 3 p.m., the drive can be up to 3 hours, and any short stop may have you you driving in the dark on very windy roads. Also, there can be lots of traffic. A word to the wise...(lucky it's daylight savings time now)
As we have other guests and neighbors nearby, please no loud music, especially after 9 p.m.
Do not leave heater running while out of apartment(Please)
Absolutely no pets (sorry) as some guests have allergies.
We do not permit smoking, period.
Please leave apartment in good order, any breakage or stainage will be charged against your security deposit (credit card on file). If you leave with a set of keys, this will also come out of your deposit.
The BASIC rule is: enjoy yourself!!
Please note: be sure to collect all personal possessions (including phone/internet cords) as we cannot return them (in certain cases we can ship valuables but you will have to pay for this service). Leaving things behind is more common than you think!
PLEASE inform us of your planned approximate arrival on the day you are coming. Check in is 3 p.m.
My wife Eleanor and I both love tennis, dancing and hiking. (We have tennis courts within a half mile of our place.) We also run a full service B&B at the same site as the cottage apartment in Cambria, (EMAIL HIDDEN)
We love to meet new guests and have had them from all over the U.S., Europe and some parts of Asia.
Hostess Eleanor is Canadian, host Bill is from Southern California (but has lived in many parts of the U.S.). He has written a variety of interesting books to help people "live better, cheaper and more resourcefully" (on solar power, moving to small towns, investing, never becoming homeless, etc.) (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) William L. Seavey for book and article examples. (Several of his books are currently available in your apartment --lower shelf in bedroom).
We'll be sure to give you ideas on what to do around town--we're over ten year residents.
There are abundant possibilities for outdoor recreation in this area--or nearby towns such as Cayucos, Morro Bay or San Luis Obispo. They include beachcombing, hiking, surfing, wine tasting, exploring country roads, bird watching, fishing, cycling and boating.
We ourselves travel regularly and often use airbnb--this experience has given us a deep understanding of what our guests expect from us.
