Quaint affordable apartments... Casa Camaleon is the perfect location for a couple or even a family traveling together. The location is quiet and steps from the beach and famous surf break "Playa Grande". Our private and fenced property, in the gated community of Palm Beach Estate, is nestled amongst huge teak trees where you will find the apartments to be the ideal distance to town and beaches. We are away from the bustle but only a short walk to all things busy when you need it. Our newly renovated apartments are fully equipped with kitchens, private bathrooms with hot water, split a/c units, overhead ceiling fans, private porches with dining tables for meals outside. Free wireless internet. Outdoor rain shower. Surfboard and bicycle rentals available onsite.
We also have a local fish truck, organic fruit and veggie truck and German bakery truck that all come by on separate days during the week. Their stuff is fresh and always good. We also have a mini super just a short walk from Camaleon. It has what you need to stock your kitchen. If you want to go to Tamarindo for shopping etc. there is a water ferry which you can catch from the beach where you surf within a 6-8 minute walk from Camaleon, for about a dollar a person and you get dropped right in Tamarindo.
Concierge assistance from the owners who live next door. Its price is right and its got everything you need! You will love it, feel at home and never want to leave!
Highly recommended! Had a great 6 day stay, and Sharr was very helpful in arranging my dive trip, an early AM water taxi to Tamarindo, as well as renting a surf board from her son. The accomodations were very neat, clean, and comfy, & met or exceeded our expectations, as well as similar travelers, but for anyone needing that TV or similar entertainment gadget, or Tamarindo night life...I'd suggest booking elsewhere. If you appreciate the outdoors, the sounds of nature, a walk on the beach, and a peaceful AM coffee - this place is ideal !
Located a 5 min walk from Playa Grande, and Tamarindo is accessed by water taxi during the day (not at night). The drive to Tamarindo is quite far, and takes about 1/2 hr, as you have to loop all the way back to the main roadway in. We had a car, which was very helpful for groceries, etc. although there are a couple of resturants, and one smaller store within walking distance nearer her place. Looking forward to going back sometime in the future !!
Great little place. Perfect for a Costa Rican getaway! Sharr wasn't there, but still quick with communication. We will definitely stay at Casa Camaleon next time we visit!
Casa Camaleon was a great place to stay! The location couldn't be more perfect, just outside of Tamarindo, which was a 2 min. boat ride or a 25 min. drive away and just a few blocks walk away from a pulperia, few restaurants/bars, and Playa Grande. We actually stayed first in the studio for one week and liked it so much we extended our stay. A few of our relatives joined us in the 2 bed apt which was just fine for the 5 of us. Sharr was a great host. She worked it all out on short notice for us and it was an easy transition to move apt. She was also very nice. I can say a lot about this place, but I'll keep it simple: if you like to surf, relax, and enjoy the beach scene this is the place for you.
What a wonderful trip! Our stay with Sharr was the grand finale of our 10 days to CR. Everything was nice & clean and we had everything we needed to cook a few meals (even a little grill!) Sharr even brought me an ice pack for my knee after I fell and hurt my knee. All the other guests were friendly as well and the peaceful happy atmosphere made for a great experience. Only a few blocks from the huge beach. Markets and restaurant's were handy and even a quick $1per person trip via boat to Tamarindo makes for a lot of fun too. Nice size fridge, 110 stove a little slow but gets the job done, hot shower and 2 bedrooms! The price is right! I would stay again for sure. She answered so many questions we had and is so pleasant and knowledgeable.
Great experience, Sharr was extremely friendly and helpful, it was great to have the possibility to ask her info about the place and it was a really cousy and nice place!
We had troubles taking money out to pay a tour and she helped us getting in the tour anyway, thanks so much for everything !
We had a wonderful experience at Casa Camaleon. Sharr and her family were fantastic and helped us with all our travel plans as well as local information. The condo was beautiful and everything we expected. it was peaceful and quite with great natural surroundings. The internet worked great so we were able to stay in contact with the outside world as needed. The beach was within walking distance and is spectacular. We look forward to coming back soon and as much as possible and stay with Sharr again.
Sharr and Terry keep a truly special place!
Perfect spot for a quiet stay. Walk to the beach with boards or the mini market or to visit any of the restaurants for a bite and a drink.
I stayed with two of my friends and I will surely be coming back.
It is wonderful to have met Sharr and Terry and to have a grand place to revisit!
Thanks for everything!!
Cameleon is a chill place to relax. catch some waves and explore. The beach is exactly like its name indicates and you will have times where its just you the sand and the ocean in all directions. Tamarindo is just across the spit for a little more action. Easy access to it from Cameleon. And there´s taxi boats to take you back and forth before dark. Sharr and Terry are great and will hook you up with bikes, boards and recommendations for tours if you ask. I highly recommend Casa Cameleon for an awesome Costa Rican experience.
Casa Cameleon is a great spot in playa grande. Sharr and Terry are wonderfully friendly and a great source of information on the whole area. They really go out of their way to help you and make you feel welcome. The rooms are simple, clean and comfortable with aircon and kitchens. It is a short walk to the beautiful beach and corner store. There are several restaurants close by. Sharr and Terry have surf boards and bikes, you don't need much more in playe grande!
We would definitely go back.
The accommodations are fine and the caretakers pleasant and helpful. We found, however, that it was not a 6-10 minute walk to the beach to catch the boat but rather 15 minutes at a good pace and avoiding all the potholes after a rainstorm. Further, there's a good 10 minute walk to the market once you cross the river delta.
I was also disappointed that we were not told all 3 restaurants in the area close during the slow season so if one gets there late in the afternoon without groceries to cook, you'll have to go hungry. There's no place to eat. We were fortunate that one of the restaurants took pity and his wife cooked something.
I've asked the owner to be more specific and accurate with the distances and availability of places to eat. Also if you don't have a car, it will cost $50. Per person to take a shuttle there from San Jose. Being its a gated area, few people know where it is.
Otherwise, all else is fine.
