My experience with Erin was over the internet and she was very cordial. The process to book the 1 night stay was good and uneventful. Unfortunately, the 2nd couple that was suppose to use the house with us had to cancel because of a winter storm, but we had to pay the full amount! $482.00 seems outrageous for a one night stopover. The location was fine. The house was interesting. Not a lot of character and unlike some of the previous references, we had some issues that were kind of strange...The first 5 minutes at the house, a visit to the downstairs bathroom and as we closed the door it fell of the hinges. After finding a screwdriver, we managed to hang it again although loosely! We also had a small storage cabinet in that bathroom and after we had fixed the main bathroom door we opened the door to the cabinet and that door fell off!!! Enough you say, well the next morning after showering, I reached for a towel on the wall rack and that fell off the wall....I guess you might say that the place needs a little more attention paid to items like this, you think.! I have relayed this to Erin's son and he assured me that things would be fixed ASAP. Hope so!
Moe never discussed cancelling or altering his reservation with me prior to his arrival. His review stems from this issue. In regards to things being broken at the cottage the couple who stayed at there the week before Moe arrived had no complaints and nothing was broken when they checked out. We take the upkeep of our cottage very seriously and it is a full-time job that we enjoy. If you would an accurate representation please read some of the other 37+ reviews.
Great place for Lake Placid. Great location and easy walk to everything. The house is in great shape, spacious, very clean and really well stocked in the kitchen, baths, books and all. mattress in the main bedroom is fantastic! Hosts are great and checked in often to see if everything was OK.
Only issue is parking. The house in front had blocked the drive so we parked on the street and got an overnight ticket! No signs about this on the street. Be aware aware not to park there overnight.
Great location! Main street and all of the Olympic venues were just a short walk away, as well as Lake Placid Brewing Company. Erin and Josh were both very helpful and attentive to our questions and needs. We will be back!
Great host and an amazing location. We had an awesome stay second time in a row during our winter getaway in Lake Placid. Definitely coming back next year!
We stayed here while my daughter was competing in the 2014 Empire State Winter Games. It is a lovely cottage with all the amenities of home. Very clean, spacious and well-appointed. The only thing lacking was a microwave, but we appreciated being able to cook our own meals when we didn't feel like dining in a restaurant. Erin was a wonderful host - very quick to reply to inquiries, and willing to accommodate us when we decided to come a day early at the last minute to get ahead of an approaching snowstorm.
Just a few things to mention - the entryway door sticks (probably due to the cold), and we did not know about this beforehand. We thought the door was locked and had a moment of panic knowing the keys were inside the entryway. We did manage to get the door open, but it would have been helpful to know about the door ahead of time. Also, the plumbing in the downstairs bathroom is below ground level and therefore has a pumping system. The pump is VERY loud and runs frequently when the toilet, sink or shower in that bathroom are in use. Wasn't an issue for us, but it could be disturbing if someone wants to shower while others are sleeping.
The only other glitch was that 6+ inches of snow fell on our first full day and I had to ask Erin about having the driveway plowed. Erin was quick to make a call and it was eventually plowed sometime the next day, but not until after I had to get out of the driveway in the morning. It was tricky getting out of the driveway with more than 6 inches of heavy snow, but I did manage. I don't fault Erin for this, as it appears all of Lake Placid went unplowed until the snow had completely stopped. Could just be the way the plow companies operate up there.
All in all, we were very happy with this cottage and definitely plan to return. Thank you Erin for everything!
This was our second stay at Erin's cottage, and just as last time, I loved every minute of it! The cottage and location are perfect! It's my favorite place to stay in LP.
Just what its says; walking distance to the the village and the lake. Parking in town can be difficult so this was a perfect spot! Great place, plenty of room. Quiet neighborhood.
Great little house with a perfect location! Really, really loved the proximity to downtown and the water. The house had everything, we bought groceries and saved a ton of money by eating in. Will definitely be back!
Erin was a wonderful host and her cottage was just perfect! We plan to book with Erin for our next and many future trips to lake Placid! Thanks Erin.
