We cannot guarantee the absolute tranquility that you may desire at times when there are events next door which sometimes occur on the weekends or holidays. Also birds, chickens sing, dogs bark at strangers who pass on the street. We have limited control over the ambient sounds, but we provide earplugs upon request!
Animals and Insects
We try to keep them out of the house, but the house has many open spaces.
There are various types of lizards, both inside and outside the house. There are flies, mosquitoes, beetles, bugs, termites and ants, but seldom in insufferable numbers. Many birds and monkeys visit the guava tree early in the morning and late in the afternoon, when you can hear their screeches and spot them fairly easily. If food is left out in the kitchen, cockaroaches and/or little mice could begin appearing at night.
Since we are not a pousada, we ask that the guests themselves clean up after themselves especially in the kitchen.
Jahlyn's house is beauuuutiful! I loved how the house was set up. The room was cozy and the shower area is so nice and open. At first I was a bit worried about how open the restroom and shower area was and how close it is to the bed but honestly because the house is so airy there wasn't any humidity at all. Jahlyn did warn me about bugs and random insects I would see so I was well prepared since I'm usually OCD clean and a insect-phobe. Sometimes I would see some of them on my bed during the day or at night but they're harmless. I did get to see a monkey on my balcony one day which was so adorable and an eye opener was seeing bats at dusk if you sit outside the back of her house and look for them. That was pretty cool. I had twisted my foot while I was on the streets and Jahlyn and everyone staying at her house were so kind and helpful. And because of my injury, it was a little hard getting up and down with all the stairs in the house, but nothing exhausting or unbearable at all. The location is great and central to other parts of Salvador and since the neighborhood is filled by locals, the prices at the markets and cafes are a lot lower too!
The house is very well located, in the heart of Pelourinho, and is very spacious and safe. The room has very nice views, and has a very unique design that makes it very special. It's in the top floor, so you feel there's no one else around you.
The atmosphere in the house was also very friendly, and Jahlyn was always very helpful.
