Montblanc is 10 minutes from the historic town of Pezenas, with its lovely 16th century streets and artisan shops, and 20 minutes from Beziers which has a beautiful cathedral with stunning views over the Canal du Midi and river Orb. There are Mediterranean beaches 15 kms away, and inland lakes and rivers to explore.

The space

Bed and Breakfast

The Poppy bedroom has a standard double bed, airconditioning and a television. The bathroom has a tub with full fitted shower, and handbasin. The WC is separate. The bedroom overlooks our sunny rear garden and terraces.

Breakfast - this is included in the rental price and is served in the garden or in our salon. We offer coffee / tea / chocolate with croissants, bread, butter, jams, fresh fruits.

Our home is a 19th Century Maison de Maitre although some parts are much older. The house is built of solid stone with full modern insulation, so the house is warm in winter and cool in summer, however, we have fitted full central heating and air conditioning as, although winters are never severe, it can be chilly and, although summers are never unbearably hot, it is very pleasant to come home to a cool home after a hot day on the beach or visiting the many ancient street markets Languedoc has to offer.

Wifi is freely available with two systems; we can offer Ethernet connection for higher speeds.

Guest access

Our garden, terraces and pool are all available for all our guests.

Interaction with guests

We live in the house and are happy to help with information etc but do not intrude

Other things to note

This is large house, and also our home. Tony and I live here permanently,
as does Tony's elderly mother. We have lived here for 13 years and have put alot of thought and hard work into creating a pleasant setting for us and our family and especially for all our guests.

Parts of the house date back probably to the 17th century, and some areas are late 19th century. This presents many challenges in creating comfortable modernised accommodation whilst retaining old world charm. For example, we have chosen to keep some wonderful centuries old wooden beams uncovered, they have been treated of course but can cause dust.

Family bedrooms and living space are separate from the guest areas but it should be noted that all access to the back garden and pool area is via our kitchen. We have plans to build a separate kitchen one day but for the moment the lay-out of the house dictates that guests have to go through the kitchen. We are very open about this and guests should never worry about 'disturbing' us. In fact chambre d'hôte guests have full use of all our kitchen equipment etc.

Carole's place is lovely. It was easy to find, the room was very spacious and the pool was an added bonus. We only stayed one night, but it was very comfortable and we would recommend it. The bathroom was particularly nice!

Bonjour! Even though it was a very short stay, everything was brilliant! Quiet and peaceful village, clean room, great breakfast! We had a bedroom and our individual kitchen+bathroom. It felt like staying in a private appartment. Merci bien, ladies!

Carole and Tony were very welcoming from the onset. The B&B Poppy was comfortable and well-equipped and the house itself, including the breakfast room, a great place to return to each day after touring the region around Montblanc. Our hosts were warm and friendly and very willing to share information about the region, find little articles that we needed, and sit with us and chat about any number of things. Their place is ideally situated for travellers to explore a most interesting part of France. We will not hesitate to call them again if we venture back to that region in the future.

This is a nice place to stay in a quiet era in France. We were welcomed by Carole and Rocky the dog :) Since Carlole did not have many other guests this night she upgraded us to a fantastic rom. We will recommend this place any time :)

Tony & Carole are lovely and welcoming hosts and we had a nice time at Villa Roquette, in the Poppy room, which Tony mentioned is their smaller room, but we felt spoiled for space, with its own hallway and bathroom with separate toilet, it felt more like a small flat. We were welcomed by our hosts and Rocky, the friendliest dog, tried some nice wine from a winery close-by recommended by Carole, had an international dinner with our hosts and other guests and a lovely breakfast on the terrace.

Tony and Carole were wonderful hosts! I highly recommend this off the map quaint bed and breakfast to anybody traveling through the provincial towns of southern France. Tony was very informative about the surrounding areas and was a very good cook providing delicious home made meals for us :) His two dogs were adorable as well! I would definitely stay here again just to spend time chitchatting and relaxing with the hosts :) Highly recommended!

We moved to France 25 years ago and have lived in Languedoc for 20 years as we love it so much. Our 3 kids grew up here and have moved away but enjoy coming back to visit and now we have both our mothers living with us as well. We have dogs and grandchildren, all equally loved!, and enjoy welcoming guests into our family home and life - many have become friends and comeback regularly.

My husband, Tony, is passionate about photography, in particular 19th century wetplate photography . He has built himself a darkroom and photo lab and has built up an impressive collection of cameras and photographic equipment as well as old photos and prints. He loves sharing his passion with visitors so please come and chat with him about it all. He tours the local antiques and 'flea' markets every Sunday and is adept at spotting interesting finds.

We aim to provide a relaxed and family atmosphere at Villa Roquette. Our house reflects our varied interests and passions and is as far away as possible from a formal hotel experience.
