Interaction with Guests
Dionysia (who lives nearby) will welcome you on your arrival with some fresh coffee, cookies, season fruits or homemade marmelade, and will offer help on anything you might need during your stay in Athens - maps, proposals for walks, how to visit various parts of the city or the country, information on shops, restaurants etc. Don't hesitate to give her a call for help anytime.
The neihbourhood (Koukaki) south of the Acropolis sacred rock, is one of the safest and most beautiful of Athens and offers the visitors many alternatives for walks to ancient and contemporary Athens. The whole of central Athens is within walking distance and the promiximity of 2 Metro stations (Acropolis & FIX) and bus stops offer you easy access to the seafront, the airport, the port or the railway station.
Right across the street there is a large supermarket where you may buy anything you need, while in the surrounding streets you will find a plethora of coffee shops, bakeries, high quality restaurants and gift shops. Its up to you to explore everything on foot or by renting a bike at a nearby shop.
We would like to keep this flat as a non-smoking house, but if you still want a smoke you can use an ashtray at the balkony.
Dionysia made us very welcome when we arrived despite us having kept her waiting for quite a while. The apartment was just as described and was the perfect location for our holiday. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable and the neighbourhood was full of friendly Athenians and other nationalities.
This apartment is perfect! We had such a wonderful time during our brief 2 night stay, I loved this place! Couldn't ask for a better location, cool old building but renovated apt, very clean, comfortable bed & really cool artwork. The little balcony with the view of the Acropolis was my favorite part.
There is a great restaurant around the corner called Bavinda we ate at the first night and it's adjacent to a pedestrian street that had great late night places. Don't worry though, the bedroom is still very quiet and not affected by any noise.
Dionysia was very communicative & showed around us around the place and provided maps & recommendations (we felt awful, we had been delayed & the text I had sent from London to let her know didn't send so she had to wait quite a while at apt for us but was in good spirits). And she left us jam & strawberries which were delicious.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Athens and within walking distance of The Acropolis & Plaka neighborhood. It's a great space, location and price!
The apartment itself was exactly as pictured, and seemed even bigger. It was a great space for 4 people (one couple and two singles). As promised, a coffee and other kitchen supplies were available, along with a great bottle of Greek wine and Dionysia's tasty homemade jam. Providing tea lights was a nice touch. Plenty of storage space in the closets. WiFi signal was fantastic.
We enjoyed being able to see the Acropolis from the balcony. Having the supermarket across the street (closed Sundays) was key for us. Just around the corner, we found a fantastic wine shop that sold quality cask wine for only 3 euros/liter, several bakeries, tavernas, and an amazing seafood restaurant, Skoumbri, where we had one of our best meals in Greece. It was also a short walk away from the Acropolis, easy to get to subway stops, and a block away from our friend's hotel.
We only had two minor issues -- the 2 locks on the door were sometimes tricky to use and were a bit loud to turn (however, we now realize these are standard key locks in Athens). Also, when using the narrow spiral staircase to reach the apartment, one of the hallway floor lights was out, making the climb a bit dark and scary if you didn't use a flashlight at night. Alternatively, you can use the small, but charming elevator.
Dionysia and Dimitris were wonderful at communicating every step of the way, including offering to pre-arrange taxis for our early morning checkout. They were immediately responsive and were very warm and friendly.
Dionysia was very welcoming she had left home jam, fresh strawberries and fruit for us. We had four adults and the apartment was a great size for all of us to use. It is very well situated to restaurants and easy to catch to hop on, hop off bus. Would recommend to friends and family.
We highly recommend Dionysia's place to stay while in Athens. The apartment is big, roomy with everything you might need including an elevator (important for those with big bags). Perhaps more important is its great location. It is only a few blocks from the metro and the Acropolis, in fact you can see the Acropolis from the balcony which is very cool at night when it is lighted. We arrived late in the day and Dionysia met us and made us welcome with information on the unit and area plus she was always ready to help. You will be happy if you stay at this place.
