Myself and 4 other friends spent 3 nights at Linda's beach house. Her place is ideally located near restaurants, produce stands, beaches, activities, and volcano Maderas is literally in your backyard. Morning walks on the beach, hammock time in the yard, playing with the 2 doggies, watching the sunset and nightly soccer game, and looking out for fireflies and bullfrogs... this place is so pure and peaceful. This was our first time to Nicaragua and Ometepe Island was the first of several spots we would travel to. Linda not only helped coordinate transportation to Ometepe and her beach house, but we communicated through Linda to have the amazing Fernando drive us to our other destinations throughout the mainland. Linda not only went out of her way to help us with transportation, but she also suggested activities, had fresh fruit/veggies/eggs stocked in the kitchen, coordinated a guided hike by Abel to take us up volcano Maderas, and even baked us a fresh coconut cake. It was a pleasure getting to know Linda and her passion for the island and helping the local community. This is a very special place and we will never forget our time here! Looking back on all of the other places throughout Nicaragua we traveled to, Ometepe and Linda's beach house was a definite highlight!
You and your group of friends are welcome back and I am hopeful we will host you again. We really appreciate your thoughtful generosity of donating a mini-laptop and school supplies for the children/university students here - it really makes a difference!
Mil gracias, Linda
My husband and I had an amazing experience on Ometepe Island. Linda's beach casita was the perfect base for our Island explorations. The casita was perfect for two. Very clean. Well stocked kitchen. Comfortable and relaxing. Linda was beyond helpful with helping us coordinate our island explorations and transportation. We truly had an amazing time!
My husband, three 20-something daughters and I spent five nights at Linda's beach house and it was just wonderful. She was very helpful arranging not only the ferry reservations (we had a car), but also getting a guide for the trek up Maderas, restaurant choices, etc. This was our first visit to Nicaragua so we were a bit nervous but there was no need to be. Linda's home was very comfortable and clean, and it was pretty cool walking out front to pick our fruit and veggies off the truck everyday -- can't get fresher than that! We arrived late on our first night and were famished after a day of traveling. What a wonderful surprise to have freshly baked banana bread and cold beer waiting for us! The location was perfect -- not too far from the volcano, kayaking, and waterfall. Linda made us feel at home during our entire visit and she was a joy to get to know. We would definitely stay at her house again.
Linda was very welcoming, available and knowledgeable about the area. The guest house is as perfect for a small space as you can imagine. We would go back in a heartbeat.
We stayed with Lisa for 4 wonderful nights. She is the most amazing host full of knowledge of the island and with a rare and beautiful love of the islanders. She has a multitude of activity recommendations hosted by local bilingual guides. The hike up Maderas volcano, moto rides aroud the island, waterfall hike, daily monkey sightings and FIREFLIES on the beach were some of our fondest memories. The place is clean, and out together with care and thought. We'll definitely stay with Linda again upon returning to Ometepe.
We couldn't have chosen a greater home away from home!
We had a perfect time and Linda is the most helpful, organized and funny host we have ever met. She tells you about insider places and shows possibilities to support the local communities. Also her papaya juice and the banana bread for my birthday were awesome !
If you are looking for a place off the Lonely Planet this is the one!

International teacher & traveler, bilingual, very active in local issues including education, water and community projects such as local road and beach clean ups every season with the neighborhood children and offer English, computer and art classes to the local community children. Currently working on trying to get workable laptops for excellent 2nd year university students. Donate a used but good laptop - take everything off it and donate it to progress in education. It really makes a difference to these students' educational success and their families future too.
Also we accept anything for the local school children and teachers since the schools, children and their families basically have nothing. Items can be used and in good quality including puzzles, coloring books, stickers, backpacks, or anything for school and learning will be put to very good use and bring lots of smiles.
Sporting equipment, used clothing and shoes in any size are all appreciated and will be shared with the local school children who help to clean the beach and road several times a year. Teach volunteering in the community, recycling and environmental awareness. All donations will be greatly appreciated and support educational success!
Special Urgent Request for Donations:
October 2014, a night of torrential rains and multiple landslides off of Volcano Concepcion resulted in disasters to hundreds of families in various communities with about 12 km of the main highway being covered with boulders, tree trunks, and gravel from half-way up Volcano Concepcion to near the lake coast. We are coordinating school supplies to be donated to the children from these local families whose homes were destroyed in various indigenous communities including Los Ramos, Santa Teresa, Urbaite, Sintiope and La Sabana.
Most of these farm families also had all their basic food crops destroyed and will be challenged economically to provide the basics for their families and maintain their children in school.
Every backpack, pencil, eraser, sharpener, scissors, glue stick, box of crayons can make a huge difference to these children, families and communities.
Please let me know if you can help to bring donations!
We enjoy hosting guests and meeting new people - sharing from our gardens or something unique and wonderful from the island along with intercultural exchanges.
Our guest house rentals have received excellent reviews on travel sites such as tripadvisor, etc.. and we appreciate recommendations.
We look forward to meeting you on magical Ometepe Island!
