Off-season, enjoy deserted beaches and marsh wildlife. Warm up in our steam room, watch movies in front of the electric fireplace and prepare a meal in the chef's kitchen.

Great for a small family or two couples. For more guests, reserve Moms' Beach House Guest Quarters at the same time!

The space
We built this two-bedroom addition to Moms' Beach House for our future retirement, but we'll share it with you for the next few years! The bedrooms on separate floors and two porches create a comfortable getaway with enough privacy for two couples. The elevator, as well as the safety features in the main level bathroom, make this home easily accessible to most visitors.

(Note: "Moms' Beach House- Guest Quarters" is the original 3-bedroom, 2-bath house. It shares an exterior staircase with the Owners' Retreat, but has a separate entrance and its own porch, kitchen and laundry area. The two spaces are separated by a locked interior door. If you reserve both parts of the property, we will open the interior door for you. Search for "Moms' Beach House Guest Quarters" to find the other listing.)

The Owners' Bedroom on the main level has a king bed and a luxury en suite bathroom with a steam room/shower, heated tile floor, large soaking tub, heated bidet toilet seat, and grab bars around the tub, shower, and toilet for added safety.

"The Loggia Suite" on the upper floor has a queen and a twin bed, a private bathroom, semi-private loft area, and a sheltered exterior porch ("The Loggia") with an expansive ocean view. This area does not have elevator access.

The kitchen opens onto the living and dining area, is well-equipped, and has space for two or more cooks. We have coffee makers (drip and French press), blenders, plenty of dishes, and kitchen tools. You are welcome to use any salt, pepper, and spices you find in the cabinet and condiments from in the refrigerator.

The large dining table seats up to 8 people; great if you are reserving both parts of the property for a larger group. We often use one end of the table for games and jigsaw puzzles.

The comfortable living space has sofas, club chairs, a 55-inch television, and a media console with a cozy electric fireplace.

In addition to the upstairs ocean-view porch, there is a generous screen porch that extends the living area on the main level. The screen porch receives morning sun but is protected on the west side from the afternoon sun. Roll-up shades offer privacy or allow you to block the morning sun.

We have beach accessories and bicycles we are happy for you to use. The space under the house is shared with the Guest Quarters and includes a shower with hot water and a dressing area, porch swings, hooks for hammocks, bikes in several sizes, beach toys, and a park grill for charcoal grilling.

We have a couple of kayaks that we may make available to responsible adult guests. We ask for a separate agreement, a commitment to safe use and care, and a fee (less than local rental companies) to offset our costs.

Guest access

The entire home is available for your use, except for a couple of locked storage areas. We ask if you use our personal supplies (band-aids from the medicine cabinet, sunscreen, or the last of the butter, sugar, or salt for example) you replace anything you use up.

Where you’ll be

Oak Island, North Carolina, United States

Oak Island is a lovely little beach town with lots of wildlife and natural areas. You won't find a roller coaster or giant high rise hotels, but there are several great local restaurants, fun shops to explore, a canal for kayaking, a marsh with interesting birds to view, friendly people and a beach that never seems too crowded. The walk from our house to the closest beach access is just about 2-3 minutes.
