Srinagar has a long history, dating back at least to the 3rd century BC, and has been known by different names. The city was founded by the King Pravarasena II over 2,000 years ago, named it Parvasenpur. The city was then a part of the Maurya Empire, one of the largest empires of the Indian subcontinent. Ashoka introduced Buddhism to the Kashmir valley, and the adjoining regions around the city became a centre of Buddhism. In the 1st century, the region was under the control of Kushans and several rulers of this dynasty strengthened the Buddhist tradition. Vikramaditya (of Ujjain) and his successors probably ruled the regions just before the city fell to the control of the Huns in the 6th century, and Mihirkula was the most dreaded ruler of the city and the valley.
The Independent Hindu and the Buddhist rule of Srinagar lasted until the 14th century, some of the notable independent rulers were Lalitaditya, Avantiverman and Sangrama Deva when the Kashmir valley, including the city, came under the control of the several Muslim rulers, including the Mughals. It was also the capital during the reign of Yusuf Shah Chak, an Independent Kashmiri ruler who was tricked by Akbar when he failed to conquer Kashmir by force. Yusuf Shah Chak remains buried in Bihar in India. Akbar established Mughal rule in Srinagar and Kashmir valley.
Srinagar is a little slice of heaven. Mohd and his family are all precious gems and made my first airbnb experience so memorable. My future hosts have a lot to live up to! ;] Such a hospitable and warm family! If you can meet them, I promise you won't want to leave when your stay is over. They were really good about taking extra safety measures and arranging transportation to and from the airport. I would recommend trying to get picked up by them personally because the hotel is a little hidden and difficult to find and took my taxi driver quite a while. (telling them it's next to something I think called dream palace should help) The room itself is more for people on a budget and on the go due to its simplicity but is very safe and conveniently located. Description is pretty accurate on what will and won't be provided. You can likely get wifi at a nearby restaurant called Habitat if you ask someone there. Note that if you are using an Indian SIM card, it won't work there and you will probably need to get a specific one from Kashmir.
Walking distance from the major shopping area and tourist attractions of Srinagar, it is however, in a calm neighbourhood. Maroof is an excellent host and was very helpful in giving me required information about the city and Kashmir in general. He knows the joints you should try for the best Kashmiri cuisine, places to go around and see, and is very helpful in arranging for commutation to these places if you so require.
The rooms at Chahat Inn are pretty basic, however, there is no internet in the premises as mentioned in the amenities. It might also be a little difficult to locate the place, as the address mentioned is not very precise (I was lost for quite a bit) and since there are a lot of hotels and guest houses in the area, they don't have the exact idea of the location. Also, the support staff is average at the place.
Abi, is a nice guest and very warm person , it was pleasure to meet him, however like to mention there is no internet mentioned in amenities, as you can check out may be Abi is confused with our other properties,
