About this listing
Ample comfortable room on sunny patio, ideal for visiting student or professor.
If you like what you see here but the calendar is full, please check out the other spaces available in this House of the Well: there is another adorable room with private bath; as well as the studio apartment!
Please note that to arrive here one must walk: either one walks up or one walks down, but walk one must. Guanajuato was not built with the automobile in mind ;=))
IDEAL for a visiting scholar or professor at the Universidad de Guanajuato!! Lovely room with private bath, on sunny central patio in private home. Kitchen privileges. Various sunny terraces with panoramic views of the beautiful City of Guanajuato. The only off-limits part of the house is the music room which is my workspace.
The room is ample and has a double bed; as well as a desk at which many people have found creative inspiration, from writing to painting! In spite of our proximity to the heart of the city, there is a certain tranquillity here which is very propicious to work.
Eight minutes' walk from the Jardín de la Unión and the Juárez, Principal, and Cervantes Theatres; as well as from the University. Easy access in taxi, microbús and on foot. There is also a private acceso down from the Panorámica.
This is a "people's" not a "rich-folks" neighborhood in an Ibero-american city, so you will hear dogs, roosters, and the occasional goat; but it is all quite agreeable.
Nevertheless, should you need to bring a car, with a little advance notice my neighbour just above on the Panorámica usually has an extra parking space: cost is 150 pesos / night. Public parking lots charge between 12 and 15 pesos per hour. (I do not recommend "free" parking in a tunnel: it may well cost you the repair of your windshield.) If you arrive in a car, you will almost certainly park it and forget about it until you leave: this city is far easier to navigate walking, in public transit, or if necessary in a taxi.
Most important of all, the great common area of the city of Guanajuato and its cultural offering, astounding for a city of this size (population ca. 175,000). Between book presentations, art openings, the university’s Cine-Club, poetry readings, concerts, and lectures on various topics, one could be occupied five nights out of seven, and two or three afternoons. Doesn’t leave much time to enjoy the increasing number of good restaurants here!
Here in the house, you are warmly invited to come up to the roof-terrace where the sun hits first in the morning; and to enjoy the sunset with a glass of something. In reality, all the public spaces in this house are here to be enjoyed: the azotea, the central patio, the little north patio with the laundry.
Really, THE ONLY OFF-LIMITS AREA IS THE PIANO ROOM WHICH IS MY OWN WORK-SPACE.
And of course, if there’s a house-concert here in the Casa del Pozo, you are warmly invited!
CLEANING: Weekly cleaning is included in your rent. If you’d like Sra Yolanda to come in and tidy up in between times, the cost is 100 pesos per cleaning.
I invite all my guests to enjoy the beautiful views from the azotea (roof terrace)! Each room comes with kitchen privileges: I ask only that you take good care of my pots and pans, my knives, and the Talavera dishes. In reality, all the public spaces in this house are here to be enjoyed: the azotea, the central patio, the little north patio with the laundry.
Really, THE ONLY OFF-LIMITS AREA is the piano room which is my own work-space.
This is the home of a working artist. I try to share this space with my guests, however short or long their stay here may be. If I am here, I am as available as my work permits. And as always, if there is a concert here in this House of the Well, my guests are cordially invited!
This is a people’s and not a rich-folks’ neighbourhood, and in an Iberoamerican city, so you will hear roosters, dogs, and the occasional outburst of ranchera music; but it is all quite inoffensive. This barrio is friendly, lively, safe.
We are 8 minutes’ walk from the Jardín de la Unión and from the Juárez, Cervantes, and Principal theatres –the latter being where the Symphony performs every Friday during the university year-; as well as the Museo Iconográfico and Casa Cuatro where there are also concerts and other events.
Easy access in taxi, microbús and on foot; there is also a private (locked) access coming down from the Panorámica.
Guanajuato was not built with the automobile in mind ;=)) ... I love this city very much – even knowing as I do that we have a lot of things to improve here, I love it very much. And I want the people who come here to visit, whether for three days or three months, to also have affection for it.
1. Two friendly dogs and a cat also live here, thus my "no pets" request. (In any case they are not allowed in the bedrooms.)
2. Smoking OK but only outside, please (ashtrays provided).
3. Take good care of kitchen equipment like good knives and pots!
4. Please make advance arrangements so that I or someone else may meet you and bring you here -- airport pickup available US$50, bus terminal US$15.
Cancel up to 7 days before your trip and get a 50% refund plus service fees back.
