About This Listing
Ample comfortable room on sunny patio, idea for visiting student or professor.
If you like what you see here but the calendar is full, please check out the other spaces available in this House of the Well: there is another adorable room with private bath; as well as the studio apartment!
Please note that to arrive here one must walk: either one walks up or one walks down, but walk one must. Guanajuato was not built with the automobile in mind ;=))
IDEAL for a visiting scholar or professor at the Universidad de Guanajuato!! Lovely room with private bath, on sunny central patio in private home. Kitchen privileges. Various sunny terraces with panoramic views of the beautiful City of Guanajuato. The only off-limits part of the house is the music room which is my workspace.
The room is ample and has a double bed; as well as a desk at which many people have found creative inspiration, from writing to painting! In spite of our proximity to the heart of the city, there is a certain tranquillity here which is very propicious to work.
Eight minutes' walk from the Jardín de la Unión and the Juárez, Principal, and Cervantes Theatres; as well as from the University. Easy access in taxi, microbús and on foot. There is also a private acceso down from the Panorámica.
This is a "people's" not a "rich-folks" neighborhood in an Ibero-american city, so you will hear dogs, roosters, and the occasional goat; but it is all quite agreeable.
Nevertheless, should you need to bring a car, with a little advance notice my neighbour just above on the Panorámica usually has an extra parking space: cost is 150 pesos / night. Public parking lots charge between 12 and 15 pesos per hour. (I do not recommend "free" parking in a tunnel: it may well cost you the repair of your windshield.) If you arrive in a car, you will almost certainly park it and forget about it until you leave: this city is far easier to navigate walking, in public transit, or if necessary in a taxi.
Most important of all, the great common area of the city of Guanajuato and its cultural offering, astounding for a city of this size (population ca. 175,000). Between book presentations, art openings, the university’s Cine-Club, poetry readings, concerts, and lectures on various topics, one could be occupied five nights out of seven, and two or three afternoons. Doesn’t leave much time to enjoy the increasing number of good restaurants here!
Here in the house, you are warmly invited to come up to the roof-terrace where the sun hits first in the morning; and to enjoy the sunset with a glass of something. In reality, all the public spaces in this house are here to be enjoyed: the azotea, the central patio, the little north patio with the laundry.
Really, THE ONLY OFF-LIMITS AREA IS THE PIANO ROOM WHICH IS MY OWN WORK-SPACE.
And of course, if there’s a house-concert here in the Casa del Pozo, you are warmly invited!
CLEANING: Weekly cleaning is included in your rent. If you’d like Sra Yolanda to come in and tidy up in between times, the cost is 100 pesos per cleaning.
I invite all my guests to enjoy the beautiful views from the azotea (roof terrace)! Each room comes with kitchen privileges: I ask only that you take good care of my pots and pans, my knives, and the Talavera dishes. In reality, all the public spaces in this house are here to be enjoyed: the azotea, the central patio, the little north patio with the laundry.
Really, THE ONLY OFF-LIMITS AREA is the piano room which is my own work-space.
Interaction with Guests
This is the home of a working artist. I try to share this space with my guests, however short or long their stay here may be. If I am here, I am as available as my work permits. And as always, if there is a concert here in this House of the Well, my guests are cordially invited!
This is a people’s and not a rich-folks’ neighbourhood, and in an Iberoamerican city, so you will hear roosters, dogs, and the occasional outburst of ranchera music; but it is all quite inoffensive. This barrio is friendly, lively, safe.
We are 8 minutes’ walk from the Jardín de la Unión and from the Juárez, Cervantes, and Principal theatres –the latter being where the Symphony performs every Friday during the university year-; as well as the Museo Iconográfico and Casa Cuatro where there are also concerts and other events.
Easy access in taxi, microbús and on foot; there is also a private (locked) access coming down from the Panorámica.
Guanajuato was not built with the automobile in mind ;=)) ... Nevertheless, should you need to bring a car, with a little advance notice my neighbour just above on the Panorámica usually has an extra parking space: cost is 150 pesos / night, 350 / month; anything in between is negotiable. Public parking lots cost 12 to 15 pesos/hour. (I do not recommend finding "free" parking in a tunnel: it may well cost you the repair of your windshield.) If you arrive in a car, you will almost certainly park it and forget about it until you leave: this city is far easier to navigate walking, in public transit, or if necessary in a taxi.
Other Things to Note
I love this city very much – even knowing as I do that we have a lot of things to improve here, I love it very much. And I want the people who come here to visit, whether for three days or three months, to also have affection for it.
1. Two friendly dogs and a cat also live here, thus my "no pets" request. (In any case they are not allowed in the bedrooms.)
2. Smoking OK but only outside, please (ashtrays provided).
3. Take good care of kitchen equipment like good knives and pots!
4. Please make advance arrangements so that I or someone else may meet you and bring you here -- airport pickup available US$50, bus terminal US$15.
We had an amazing stay with Ana.
Nothing was too much trouble, being a wealth of knowledge on local history, best places to eat and drink dependant on style and price range, things you absolutely shouldn't miss, Ana was an incredibly generous hostess.
Our room was lovely, clean, and accurate to pictures provided. We thoroughly enjoyed the affections of Ana's beautiful dogs and cat.
We had an unfortunate experience in which my partner got incredibly sick with food poisoning and Ana gave us all the information for a Dr with a specialty in that field, just having that extra bit of support away from home was beyond comforting.
We will definitely be back to stay with Ana again!
Anna was a kind and helpful host. She knows the city well and gave us lots of great suggestions for restaurants and walks throughout town. One restaurant she recommended was so phenomenal we went back the next night for dinner again.
The room was clean, comfortable and cozy. It even has a cute sitting area with a nice view of the city. The bathroom was also nice and had beautiful tiles throughout. We also loved the rooftop terrace, which had fantastic views of the city. All in all we really enjoyed our time at Anna's place. Guanajuato is such a beautiful city and it was nice to have a cute and comfortable place to stay for a few days.
Ana was a wonderful hostess and went out of her way to make my stay comfortable and pleasant. Her courtyard and roof are perfect to hang out and read or chat with the other guests, who were also each very interesting. I was worried about the hot water and wifi issues mentioned in a previous review, but Ana seems to have ironed out the kinks: both worked just fine for me. The house's location and views can't be beat, provided you don't mind a short walk up a steep hill. Well worth it in my opinion. It's only about 5 minutes down to the dead center of town, maybe ten minutes up if you go at an easy pace. The only thing a little difficult the first night were the dog and rooster noises, although that seems to be the case everywhere in Mexico (same thing where I'm staying now in San Miguel). I like to sleep in, but the town wakes up early. Earplugs did the trick for me... after that, I slept great. I would definitely return to Ana's and would recommend her house to anyone visiting Guanajuato.
What a haven Ana's Patio Room was after a long day of travel! Wonderful comfortable, very pretty, colorful and large room, with a huge beautiful bathroom as well. The bed was excellent.Bedding fresh and smelling like the sun, big comfy thick comforter, I fell asleep when my head hit the pillows.Ana walked me to town the next day, explaining the various points of interest and necessities. She made several suggestions and recommendations to art and music events...wonderful! Her home is lovely and huge. Kitchen privileges fantastic! Listening to the Maistra practice on her Grand Piano, makes one simply stop , and enjoy.
Quite a hike UP from town,or,Taxi 35 pesos. Easy walk down on the stairs. There are 2 lovely dogs in her home that you will hear "working" from time to time.Neighbors have Roosters....who alarm like roosters do ! I used my "White Noise " App. on my phone , to sleep as long as I wanted! A wonderful, true Mexican experience, book a space in this Hacienda, enjoy Guanajuato!
We had a wonderful stay with Ana at the House of the Well. She is a terrific host who provided a good local tour when we arrived. This was extremely helpful for us in learning to get oriented. Ana provided a lot of useful information and shared her space very generously. We very glad to be able to use her lovely kitchen to prepare some meals. Ana even shared small food items such as spices and cooking oil that enhance meal preparation, especially if you are not staying for a number of weeks to make your own purchase of these items worthwhile. We enjoyed conversations with Ana about a variety of social and political issues. Our room was comfortable and clean. The view of the city from the upstairs patio is fantastic and the heart of Guanajuato is just a short walk away! The house is not in a quiet location (lots of roosters and barking dogs) but Ana makes potential guests aware of this in advance and we were able to adapt. Thanks for making our visit to your lovely city so memorable, Ana!
Wow! Truly, if you are coming to Guanajuato and looking for an authentic, cultural, and welcoming stay near the heart of the city, definitely consider staying with ANA!
I stayed in her patio room for just over a month. Here are some of what made this stay memorable.....
The room: large room with comfortable bed and a really great bathroom. I loved this room! Its well removed from the rest of the house which makes it very private, almost like a studio but without the kitchen. It can get a little chilly at night but there were plenty of warm blankets on hand. Also, i was here during the coldest part of the year, which is actually VERY warm, especially if you are visiting from Canada....
The host: What a women! This is what really makes it here. Even if you dont see ANA a whole lot during your stay she is always willing to help with any questions and make your visit rewarding and FUN!
I loved my stay in Guanajuato and when I make my return visit it will be back here at ANAs house of the well.
Very helpful host. When we arrive at Ana's house, she was so kind to lead us to the Centro and introduce some fabulous restaurant and interesting sights. Meanwhile, there are two lovely dogs say hi to us in the day and night. Anyway, Dee and I just have a great experience explored Guanajuato. Hope see you again!
