Edna and Jean-Claude were lovely hosts! We really enjoyed chatting with them over home-made aperitifs! We would love to return for some canoeing in summer on the river! The location is very conveniently located to some of the most attractive chateaus in the area as well as only 20 minute drive to Font De Gaumme and other interesting tourist sites.
I was very happy with my weeklong stay at Chez Gallon with Edna and Jean-Claude. My room was impeccably clean and the location unbeatable. The property is well-maintained and includes amenities like a pool, air conditioning and full-use kitchen. You are within a 15-minute walk to two stunning castles on either side of the Dordogne river. Activities in the area include canoeing, bike trails, rock climbing and cave exploring. The b and b is on a working farm, where the couple grow their own fruits and vegetables. I was invited to pluck plums and apples from trees in their front yard which I happily took them up on. If you're traveling in two's, you might want to request a room with a bathroom door or enclosure as the one I was in didn't have one but I didn't mind as I was traveling solo. They are apparently waiting for the custom-made door to arrive soon. I also bought two pots of honey that Jean-Claude produces on the farm. In sum, I was very happy with my stay. The region is stunningly beautiful, the b&b located right along the river, my room was reassuringly clean and comfortable, and Edna and Jean-Claude very warm and friendly. I'm hoping to return next summer to explore more of the region. Un grand merci Edna et Jean-Claude pour votre gentillesse:)
we are a family that plan the trip in the last moment ,Edna replied very quickly , and im glad it happen since it was a wonderful stay at Edna &jean- Claude
we felt at home and we enjoyed so much. Edna helped in every thing we needed and we stayed with a very good memories
we will came back again for sure
the area is really beautiful , you feel like you are in an old painting
the villages are very amasing and caracteristic like you are walking back in time
The experience we had at the chambre d'hote was 5 stars. Located in the valley where all must see attractions can be easily accessed. A swimmingpool at the front door. A slow meandering Dordogne river at the backdoor. Air balloons and light weight aircrafts so close you can touch them. For our 8 year old all the ingredients for an advanture. For us a definate "we will visit this B&B again".
Edna and Jean-Claude are wonderful hosts – very kind and helpful. After a long day’s drive it was very pleasant to be welcomed by them with a glass of wine. They have a beautiful, large, rural property adjacent to the Dordogne river – which is perhaps a 5 minute walk from the house. It is a great location for exploring the many sites in the Sarlat region. My room was very comfortable and breakfast was delicious and overwhelming: Edna scrambled 5 eggs for me! (… plus yogurt, fresh juice, croissant, bread, confecture). I wouldn’t hesitate to return.
We loved Edna! She is really friendly and helped us find the best way to see everything! She speaks great English so it was a big plus.
The rooms were really clean and cute.
The place is in the middle of the farm land and almost right across from one of the very pretty Castles with beautiful gardens in that area. So it was very convenient to go around.
My only complain is that we went there when it was really hot in August, and even though outside wasn't too bad, there was no fan to blow the air.
But overal everything was great, I would go back there specially when it's cooler :)!
Beautiful place! Jean Marc and Edna were the most welcoming people you can get. Jean Marc has been in the region almost all his life and knows all the places and activitites to go to. He's a man with great connections in the area! The house is amazing with lots of surroundings, fruits trees everywhere, big garden to take breakfast and even an independent kitchen for self-catering. it is located close to the most beautiful villages in the black perigord ( beyond, Castlenaud). The jacuzzi is now indoor surrounded by stunning plants that makes you feel like in a little jungle.
The location was very difficult to find as their directions were't accurate. And the toilet was in the room with no door so no privacy at all. Hard to communicate as well as even though Jean-Claude was very nice, he spoke not a word of english.
There's a reason the Dordogne area attracts so many tourists from inside France (and the Netherlands, according to our (website hidden) evidence). Wow. It's very difficult to see even a fraction of all the interesting sites and sights in the valley. I won't spend any time enumerating all the things we didn't have time to take in during our two-night stay at Edna's - it would be too sad. All the more reason to go back. But it's worth mentioning just how great Edna and her place are. Reasonable prices, comfortable room, and she cooked us an excellent meal one night that was more than we expected. By which I mean "more food" - not more cost. Edna's English is very good, much better than she claims, and she's a bright, friendly host whom we were very lucky to meet. Apparently, we were one of the first guests she had through airbnb, so I feel bad in having taken so long to comment on our stay. First rate: highly recommended!
It was great to relax in the comfortable and quiet setting provided by Edna. The room was clean and quiet and got really dark at night--which helped me sleep off my jet-lag. Edna greeted me with a local aperitif upon my arrival and made a great restaurant recommendation right away (among other great tourist rec's). Edna also made delicious breakfasts each morning featuring her exquisite homemade jams from the fruit trees in the backyard! We had fun chats and I felt welcome and comfortable from the onset. She is a great host and I would stay there again!!
