Description

The space

Dating back from the 18th century, Sestelo manor-house is located in the heart of Minho, the birthplace of Portugal and the land of Vinho Verde (green wine). Located in the county of Cabeceiras de Basto, less than one hour driving from Porto, Sestelo was once the house of a Portuguese nobleman recently restored to include all the comforts of modern life.

Espadeiro cottage, once part of the manor-house old stables, was converted into a cosy duplex for two. The cottage has a double bedroom with panoramic view to the vineyard and mountains, one bathroom with shower, a kitchenette equipped to prepare light meals and a small living room with Cable TV.

All cottages have use of the swimming pool and of the panoramic terrace, overlooking the vineyard, where you can relax with a glass of “Vinho Verde” after exploring the region. The property is surrounded by vineyards, a watermill, the manor-house chapel, olive trees, fresh water fountains and the “Levada”, and old irrigation channel that you can follow until it enters the mountain.

Besides its 40 hectares of farming land and forest, mainly oaks and pine trees, Sestelo is also an active farm where wine and other crops are produced. You may get to meet the farm caretakers that live in the house next to the watermill, harvesting the land and taking care of the estate.

The vineyards, wineries, the fields of corn, the cherry blossoms at the dawn of spring, the ancient watering systems, the daily tasks guided by the seasons, make of this place an image drawn by the force of time and nature.

House Rules

All cottages are rented with linen and towels as well as towels to use in the swimming pool.

The kitchen is equipped so that you may prepare light meals or have breakfast in the house.

The swimming pool is shared among all guests as is the terrace so if you intend to have your meals outside, take care not to leave dirty dishes or garbage in the area so that others may enjoy the space as well.

The garbage is collected every morning by the house caretaker. Please help us to preserve the environment by recycling your garbage. We have a set of recycling bins next to the cleaning storage to help you with this.

Cleaning service is provided once a week, normally on Fridays or when guests check out. Cleaning utensils are also available in the storage next to the apartment. These are shared among the guests so please return them to their original place after use.

The water used in the houses comes directly from the water springs that feed the property. Please do not drink tap water as it has not been tested for human consumption. You may find potable spring water in the fountain next to the lake.

Most people seek Casa de Sestelo to rest and have a relaxing holiday with their family, so please try to be respectful of other guests and of their space and keep the noise level to a minimum during the night.

Casa de Sestelo is a stunning manor house that has been renovated to a lovely standard. The cottage is compact but had everything we needed and was very clean. Maria and Filipe had left a very generous hamper of food and a bottle of the house vino verde- which was fantastic! The location is quite remote and not a brilliant base if you want to visit Braga and Porto. The pool was unfortunately out of order when we were there which was a shame. Casa de Sestelo is a big place and we were the only ones staying there, and as Maria and Filipe live in Porto, we felt slightly abandoned when things went wrong with the pool and we didn't know how to get to the nearest supermarket. A really really beautiful place to stay for a relaxed couple of days.

Lovely place to stay in an amazing location! The casa is a lovely place to relax, spacious enough for two people especially when the weather allows for you to enjoy your home-made meals outside. The kitchen includes all you need to make prepare simple meals with a lovely range of local produce. Maria and her family did all they could to make us feel at ease and comfortable. The surroundings allow for lovely rides and hikes, but a car is indeed needed. We visited the casa when it was still cold at night, so do bring some extra clothes as inside the casa it may take a bit to have it warmed up.

We were received by Maria's husband, who was very friendly and welcoming. The house is located in a very quiet and beautiful place, we were lucky to have the surrounding area to ourselves, since we were the only one's there. We received a basket as a welcoming gift, full of goodies from the local area, enough for 3 days! Excellent host and local.

This was a gorgeous, bijoux apartment and we loved staying here. The whole complex is set in a beautiful location and is has been renovated to a very high standard. We were given a delicious welcome basket packed with produce from the quinta. Filipe gave us lots of handy advice on interesting spots to visit locally and was happy to help with any queries.

It was a pleasure to stay in Maria's wonderful rural oasis. The cottage was a perfect size for two people, but the welcome baskets that came with it would have fed about six :). Maria is a great host, available and easy to communicate with. Overall, heartly recommendations.

Staying at Maria´s place is great! A lovely cottage at a wonderful and quiet place next to vineyards with its own terrace. It´s a little private space on the wonderful area of Case de Sestelo. The apartment is clean, well equipped and it´s enough space for two. The adjoining swimming pool can be used by all the guests and is a great place to refresh. Maria is a very nice host. We didn´t find the meeting point and after a short call she picked us up where we were and guided us to the apartment. She shows you the area and tells you all the things you need to know and even has some recommendations for restaurants and places to visit (you should visit Guimarães, and have a look at the city of the top of Monte da Penha). The welcome package with handmade cakes (Maria´s mother made them- excellent), fresh fruits, wine of the own vineyard, great cheese, delicate bread and all you need for the first breakfast is the cherry on the cake. If you plan to relax for a few days you should decide for this great place.
