About this listing
Cool, private 2 floor Apt. Suite. Convenient location heart of artisan Ohio City. Friendly, knowledgeable host, well reviewed breakfasts. 1100 sf, 1.5 baths, kitchen, can sleep 5, sleep sofa, one BR. Weekly rate is self-cater business, 7nts.
Charming two floor space offers more privacy; truly a home within a home. Spacious but cozy, homey. Groups booking multiple rooms like congregating in this separate space. Nightly guests join others for breakfast in main house dining room. Self-cater guests have own kitchen. Popular nightly and weekly, occasionally monthly in slow season.
Separate space and entrance from main house; you have your own key. Guest are given a key and enter there suite through their own front door. It's then up one flight to the two floor space on the second and third floor of house. In main house downstairs, my office/reception area just off entry foyer adjacent to common living room and formal dining room where breakfast is served.
Interaction with Guests
Mainly, Sherlock, Wesley and I welcome guests on arrival and then serve breakfast in the morning. Beyond that, a good host, like a good bartender, senses when to interact, get involved or leave the guest alone! Guests can find me in person, call or text (my intercom!). I am busy, come and go a lot, but always reachable. Live and work mostly at home in the separate part of main house downstairs. Any of 3 daytime cleaning staff might be on site, as needed.
Artisan Ohio City neighborhood one of the nation's top 10 for food and drink. Urban, historic, trendy. Crop Bistro is grand, Flying Fig best a female chef and owner along with it's superb atmosphere and food, Momocho serves Mod Mex in an old saloon looking place and is always packed, Orale offers a different take on contemporary Mexican. Banana Blossom is my Thai place. All the Breweries also compete for best burgers and pub food. Mitchell's Ice Cream! All a walk away.
Walk, walk walkable! Suburban guest sometimes can not believe it! Many park their car on arrival and leave it. Public bus, train, eat, drink, 1-2 blocks; downtown conference, Indians game, 30 min walk across majestic bridge, 5 min drive, one mile. Call cab. 17 miles from airport by car or train. Also, shuttles from neighborhood to Indians stadium.

James is a great host! So easy going and welcoming! Two floor apartments in the house with a separated entrance are so quite, cozy and spacious. Really enjoyed sitting in the terrace late spring evening! Will recommend it to everyone! Thank you so much!
James was an outstanding host. He met us as soon as we pulled up to the house. The desciption and the pics of house were spot on...actually, it looks even better in person. The neighborhood was great...walking distance to some of the best eateries in Cleveland! My brother and I had a convention in downtown Cleveland and it literally took 5 minutes to get to. There's even a grocery store around the corner! Would definitley come back to stay! Thanks James!
Great experience. Stayed two nights in the apartment suite with our teenage sons. Breakfast was top notch with fresh sausage, bacon, and fruits from Westside market. Homemade pancakes and fabulous coffee. Looking forward to a return visit the next time we travel to Cleveland.
Jim is a wonderful host! Very helpful and full of excellent information (restaurants, bars, events, etc). Extremely friendly! The house is a B&B - we stayed in the Madison Apt. Suite - its an entirely separate apt, two floors, with a great living room and dining room, full kitchen, and adorable bedroom. Jim has supplied to apartment with wonderful decorations and useful kitchen equipment. The neighborhood rocks - Ohio City is filled with cute bars and restaurants. We stayed here for a concert at Jacob's Pavilion and were able to walk there (about a mile). If we are back in Cleveland we will definitely be staying here!
My dog, Thomas, and I traveled to Cleveland for a wedding just up the street from Jim's place. Jim was a great communicator, and responded to our messages almost instantly. We stayed several days, and the accommodations, a small apartment separate from the main house, were comfortable, and ideal for our needs.
This is an older house, in which the owner lives with his pets, a cat and a dog, so it definitely has a "lived-in" feeling rather than an antiseptic hotel feeling. Jim was a very gracious host, breakfasts were tasty, and the resident hound dog, Sherlock, got along famously with Thomas.
The B&B is in a terrific location in the beautiful, historic Ohio City neighborhood, just a few blocks from the West Side Market, one of the best food traditional food markets in the country, and loads of the best restaurants in a city teeming with them. There's also a supermarket just a block away, if that better suits your needs. It's a quick drive to any of the downtown sights (Rock Hall, sports stadiums, terrific theater, casino, etc.). As a long-time Clevelander prior to moving away several years ago, I knew Ohio City as a transitional, up and coming neighborhood, and I was really pleasant surprised at how much has changed, particularly a couple blocks away on W. 25th St., which is hopping with nightlife.
All in all, we had a great experience: comfortable accommodations, friendly host, terrific neighborhood.
I came to Cleveland at the last minute to see my daughter play at the Happy Dog Saloon. James was incredibly accommodating with my last minute booking and arrival changes. The communication was fast, and once I booked, texting, and calls made checking in very easy. This has been a B&B for quite a while, but just new to Airbnb.
This was an amazing place to stay. The listing doesn't do justice to James's B&B. The apartment was attached but separate from the home with it's own entrance and total privacy. It will sleep 5 comfortably, and the two floors made for quiet sleeping for all of us. My daughter and friends were able to spend the night and were thrilled with the charm and comfort of the apartment. It has everything you love for a trip away, WIFI, blowdryer, shampoo, bodywash, luxurious towels and bedding, coffee, real cream and water bottles in the fridge. There are board games and books in the living room. The list goes on and on. I spent the evening before the show on the lovely porch talking to the other guests, then James invited me for the evening walk with Sherlock the hound. As we walked around the area, James pointed out all the wonderful restaurants, shops, brewery, farmer's market (fabulous!), and grocery stores. He greeted neighbors, friends, and introduced me to all.
The next day, our group tried one of the restaurants and got some of the best salads we have ever had. Afterward we drove a quick mile into downtown Cleveland. The location of this B&B in this historic trendy district is wonderful, just a couple of blocks to everything. It's very walkable.
This B&B is so homey and comfortable, and James is so welcoming and kind, it really made the trip for me. One other benefit, one of the shop keepers gave me a discount because I mentioned James had recommended her shop!
I would highly recommend the Clifford House, and I'll definitely stay here whenever I visit Cleveland.

About the Host, James
Upfront, honest, direct. Like nice things and good food but not pretentious. Art theater, food, swimming, people are favoriyte subjects. The Cleveland Internationl Film Festival is my favorite even of the year.
