Our lovely cottage is 350 years old, situated in a small hamlet in the middle of the the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. The cottage has been fully renovated and has 2 spare bedrooms, both with lovely oak beams, and separate bathroom. Please note that when more than 1 group has booked, you will share the bathroom. Guests are welcome to share the rest of the house with us: the large lounge, dining room and kitchen.
We have everything you need for a really comfortable stay. We have 2 open fires, wifi, ample parking, and are situated in an area with a huge variety of hiking/walking trails, caving, cycling etc. We are in very easy reach of the Lake District.
We are served with a good rail network and we are happy to pick guests up at local station (Horton in Ribblesdale).
Our house is approximately 2.5 miles from the nearest pub; for a small fee we offer a drop-off and pick-up service for guests who would like to have a meal/drink and would prefer not to drive.
This really is one of the most beautiful areas of the UK and is a haven for outdoors enthusiasts if you would like any help or have any questions about staying here, please just get in touch!
My partner and I had a lovely weekend stay with Bernadette and David at their fantastic old cottage in the heart of Yorkshire Dales. They (and there two friendly cats :-) ) made us immediately feel welcome into their home and were super helpful with information about walks and good places to feast on local food. The highlight of our trip was an amazing trek to the top of Ingleborough mountain for which we set of for on foot from the cottage following a scrumptious cooked breakfast with all the trimmings! The views of the valley and viaduct below on the way up the mountain were truly spectacular. We can’t wait to come back! All in all a perfect break away from the hustle and bustle of London.
I had the pleasure of staying at Bernie and Dave's beautiful cottage last weekend. My original plan was to do longer walks nearby but due to bad weather I decided to stay indoors most of the time. Bernie and Dave are wonderfully helpful hosts, flexible and understanding and they made me feel home! I was really happy to spend my time reading, sitting by the fire (let me add the hot water bottle was a star idea too!!!) with tea and biscuits and had a very relaxing time. The lovely room I stayed in was clean with a very comfortable bed so I slept much better than I usually do. Everything is as described on the accommodation's profile and even better when experience it in person. So, Bernie and Dave thank you once again for your lovely company and laughter, you really went beyond what I expected in the way you accommodated my stay and welcomed me in your home.
Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous! The place, the people and the location are all fabulous. There is nothing but praise for Bernadette and Dave, the service and the cottage itself. A perfect stay (though I was disappointed that Dave didn't have better control of the weather :-)) for the Yorkshire Dales.
I have never found better.
My partner and I had a wonderful stay with Bernadette and David. They couldn't have been more hospitable, David even collected us from the local pub where we'd ended up after a long day out hiking, and walked us up the road to show us the way the next morning. The house is fantastic, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the breakfast delicious. Would definitely stay there again!
Bernie & David are fantastic hosts! We were greeted
on arrival with freshly baked scones and invited to make ourselves at home with full use of the beautifully renovated barn/home. Each morning a full breakfast cooked to order with as much freshly brewed coffee as we could consume. We slept like logs in the super comfy bed in a quaint room which overlooks a charming rural scene. David & Bernie were very helpful and knowledgable about things to do and see, even loaning us jackets and beanies for our walks. Thank you Bernie and David for your generosity and making our stay comfortable and much fun. We highly recommend a stay at penyghent cottage.
My husband and I stayed one night with Bernadette and David, our first in the Dales before we started off on a couple long days of walking. They graciously picked us up in Horton in Ribblesdale where we got off the train, discussed with us our walking route the next day, fed us a hearty and scrumptious breakfast, and packed us a lunch to carry with (for a reasonable additional charge). David even walked us to the trailhead to send us on our way. Their cottage in Selside is a nice starting point for trekking in the Dales.
Bernadette and David are lovely and relaxed hosts. We only stayed a night but quickly realised we should have stayed longer. The Dales are just lovely and Bernie and David's digs were great. The breakfast was huge and delicious. A walkers paradise where we did no walking, which was our mistake and our loss. We could not recommend Bernie and David's corner of paradise highly enough.
We stayed for one short night but had a wonderful time. Bernadette and Dave were wonderful and welcoming hosts making you feel like a part of the family. The breakfast was delicious and set us up for the day ahead. They had good knowledge of the area and could recommend good pubs, walks, and sights to see. A beautiful house in a very pretty pat of Yorkshire with lots to see and do.
We had a fantastic time in Selside, Bernadette and David were attentive to our every need, from their delicious breakfasts to servicing and hiring out their bikes to us. We loved the house and the surrounding countryside, it was a truly unique and special experience to be able to stay right in the middle of such a beautiful part of the country. Thanks, we hope to be back!
We had the pleasure of staying with Bernadette and her husband, during our visit to the Yorkshire Dales, where we were undertaking the 3 Peaks Challenge. From our first early communications we knew we were in for a delightful stay. Not only was their home, beautiful and homely, but they were so accommodating of our needs ( especially in preparing ourselves for the gruelling 3 peaks) and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Scrumptious breakfasts, lovely comfy rooms and to top it, wonderful company. I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone to stay here if they are coming to explore this beautiful part of the world. I most certainly would be staying here again if I come back.... fingers crossed!
