In the center of Beijing, this newly renovated old fashioned Hutong house is the most charming find in town! Situated between the Lama and Confucius Temple, this 2nd story, King bdrm is perfect for 2! Public transit, shops and cafes all 5min away!
Welcome to our humble house! We live in a local neighborhood in the traditional part of Beijing, Lama Temple (inside the second ring road) near one of the most famous food streets in Beijing! We are near the center point of Ghost Street which, in our opinion, is the best location to begin your night of food exploration! (search key word: ghost street beijing)
LOCATION: Lama Temple is one subway stop away from the final destination on the Airport Express train (fee: 25rmb) or an easy cab ride form the airport (fee: 70rmb). It takes 4-6 minutes to walk to our front door from the exit of the subway.
Our house is 150 meters down a small road directly across from the Lama Temple. You turn down our traditional alleyway just as you reach the corner of the Confucius Temple. This is one of the few remaining traditional neighborhoods in Beijing. We are very near to many western and Chinese cafes in the hutongs, and of course very close to Ghost street!
We have a small guest room with a single bed plus a double room with King bed in addition to our own room. The rooms and apartment have air/con and heating.
The house is spacious and tidy. We don't have any pets. There are two bathrooms, one in our room and one to be shared by guests.
Unfortunately because Noel is allergic to smoke, we can't allow any smoking in the house or rooms, even with the windows open. But you can step outside into the alleyway if needed.
Our neighbors are quiet. We share a small enclosed alleyway, that is secured with a lockable gate, with two neighbors, one Chinese couple and a European guy. This is a very quiet neighborhood due to the situation of the houses, it totally blocks out all the street traffic noise!
This is a very unique location in Beijing. It is East meets West/Old meets New. With hutongs front and center and a modern subway system to take you to the most famous high rises in the city just a few stops away!
Welcome to our local neighborhood, where the real working people of Beijing live.
We are a short cab ride, long walk, or easy subway ride away from Nanluoguxiang, Bell and Drum Tower, Houhai lake, Tiananmen, Forbidden City, etc.
There is a washing machine in the house plus fully stocked kitchen with oven. There is a supermarket with western products near by; any guest is welcome to cook in if you choose. We will of course provide breakfast every day. Breakfast is fresh coffee (not instant), a selection of tea and whatever food I make that day!
Taxi from Beijing airport: RMB - 70
Airport train: RMB - 25
Bus: RMB - 1
Subway: RMB - 2
Stay one night or several! Welcome to Beijing!!!

All guests have full access to the living room, Kitchen and Dining room. We ask that each guest respect the privacy of others in regard to bedrooms.
Interaction with Guests
We run a very open house, often having our friends stop by even bringing other friends with them. The bedrooms are on the second floor of the house, so if guests wish for privacy and quiet, they can go to the second floor. However, if they want to join the fun in the downstairs living room, be it board games, tea or book reading, they are always welcome! This will allow you to meet many locals, expat or Chinese when you stay here.
If we are out of town, then we will have a friend or neighbor stop by the house every so often to make sure things are in order. But other than that guests should not be too disturbed even in the living spaces.
The thing we love most about our neighborhood is the character! There is often some film crew capturing the sights and sounds of this traditional oasis in the center of modern Beijing. We love the cafes; there are four restaurants that have been featured in magazines for their excellent food and service, just down the road! We used to come to this part of town often to hang out, and now have finally decided to live here!!!
Other Things to Note
We offer the option to pay in RMB if you want to extend your stay or you only have RMB cash, so we can make a bill on the day of your arrival and settle in RMB.
We provide breakfast, and you are welcome to buy foods for lunch and dinner and put them in our cabinets and fridge.
Noel is allergic to smoke, so absolutely no smoking allowed at anytime.
We appreciate cleanliness, so it's good if you wash your dishes and put your trash away in the trash cans around the house when you are done.
We ask that all guests wear cloths in public spaces. Wearing only undergarments or a towel does not count as clothes. Just keep in mind this is a mixed gender household so we ask that mutual respect be displayed through modesty.
We welcome guests into our house, and you are welcome to bring friends over to the house too. Please just tell us beforehand if you plan to have friends over so we can make plans not to overlap! We prefer friends of our guests not to stay overnight without our consent. If there is a special situation we can discuss it.
Sorry if these rules seem like a lot. When people share living spaces it is important to have open, honest communication, and that's what we hope to have with our guests to. So if you have any questions or concerns, just let us know!
I've stayed with Noel and Jonathan before in the other room; this time decided to take the bigger room inside. There's a desk to work on and the bed is quite comfy. Everything else was great as usual, see my other reviews.
Exactly as described! Clean, well situated and nicely decorated. Both Jonathan and Noel were not there as they decided to go back home for the holidays but clear instructions were given about access. Unfortunatley they forgot to pay the electrical bill and so the last two days and one night where spent without power or heat and they were difficult to reach due to the time zone difference. AirBnb was of little help and never got back to me until the next day which was too late! Other than that one incident though I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in Beijing.
Jonathan and Noel were truly amazing hosts. I was a long-term guest and from the moment I arrived they made me feel very welcome in their home.
The room is exactly as described and the bed is quite comfortable. The desk is large and has a nice view. All the rooms are equipped with air purifiers to combat Beijing's notorious pollution.
The neighborhood is in a prime location. The house is a very short walk from the subway station and very close to many western-style restaurants and a nice French grocer.
I highly recommend staying here during your stay in Beijing.
Noel and Jonathan's home is very warm and welcoming. I enjoyed my time chatting with them and learning about life in Beijing. The location was also great. It is very close to the subway station and in an interesting neighborhood with a lot to see and enjoy within walking distance. I would definitely stay here again!
Noel and Jonathan were really helpful and very nice. They gave us very good advices about our trip and plenty of hospitality. The place is very cute, it is called the "Brooklyn of Beijing", a mixture of modernity and tradition, with old arquitecture, funny hutongs, etc. We spent a very good time in Beijing and at Noel and Jonathan's, we really recommend it!
I had a wonderful time with Jonathan and Noel! The room was neat and tidy and the communal areas always friendly and inviting. The neighborhood where they are located was even better than I expected! Very close to a lot of great hutong shops / restaurants, the Lama Temple, and subway station. Additionally, they were just so nice, sociable, and helpful, it felt like staying with friends. They gave me some great restaurant recommendations for my friends with dietary restrictions and also helped me find a place to get a phone recharge card nearby. We also had some great conversations together over tea as well as a home cooked brunch with delicious coffee. I really enjoyed staying with them and would highly recommend them as hosts! They were terrific! :)

American couple from California. We love adventures and traveling, having covered over 30 countries in the past three years on four different continents!
We first moved to Beijing in 2009 and seem to always return. We just signed a new house lease here and want to share with the AirBnB community the benefit of hospitality, as we have received it from others on our many travels.
We love food! We try to learn how to make local dishes from all the places we visit. Recently we got into cooking organic and are learning how to grow keifer, sprout wheat for bread and all kinds of fun stuff! We are coffee fanatics and love good wine.
We believe that the thing which makes a place most memorable are the people you share it with. I hope you will send us a note and come spend part of your trip with us! Or at least grab a coffee together!
