I rent Francesco's apartment for a long weekend in november. We had a wonderful experience in Casa Orleans. The apartment is exactly as depicted in the pictures and is strategically located at walking distance to some of Palermo's most essential landmarks. "San Giovanni degli eremiti" is essentially around the corner and Palazzo Reale is no more then 5 minutes of walk away, the cathedral 10 minutes or less. More than all this, Casa Orleans is close to the "mercato di Ballarò" and you can enjoy a real palermitan experience living in this neighborhood. To foreign people: it can be a little intimidating at first if it is your first time in southern Italy, but if you want to breath something genuine, this is the place to go.
The near piazza indipendenza is a terminal for taxies and a lot of city bus lines, like the one that takes you to (must visit) Monreale, and the train station that connects you to the airport is very close.
We hadn't the chance to meet Francesco on arrival, but his wife was waiting for us at the apartment and the check-in was absolutely smooth. Communication was perfect with both Francesco and his wife.
All this considered, I can definitely recommend Casa Orleans for your stay in Palermo.
Franco could not have been more welcoming. His wife came to meet us at the station which was a very nice.
The Flat is at the top of lots of stairs, in the UK probably the equivalent of a 6th floor Flat. Just be clear about this when booking the place, although not a problem to us. The area was very noisy and covered in rubbish I think this is because it is in the heart of the University area. We didn't mind as the Flat itself was lovely and airy, as well as very central. Great for a short break.
I was however disappointed by a few things in the Flat.
The first being the leak from the water heater in the bathroom. On the first day we complained about the leak as we thought it was coming from the toilet. Franco came round promptly to 'fix' the problem which involved putting a bowl under the leak! After 3 days of the bathroom floor having puddles of water from the heater we managed to get enough bowls in the right places so there wasn't water on the floor. I feel this was neglectful as Franco was clearly aware of this problem before our visit and had not tried to solve the issue permanently.
I also felt that the linen that was provided was very basic. There was no duvet covers which is unhygienic. There weren't enough towels. Per person 1 small towel and 1 square towel (not bath towel size) for bathing, both of very poor quality. I would have expected hand towels for use after the toilet again for hygiene reasons. This is such a small thing but would improve a guests stay immensely. I would have bought my own towels if I had known.
I also found it strange that there wasn't an electric kettle for tea?
It sounds like we had an appalling time but we didn't. Palermo was wonderful and Franco did his best to make our stay enjoyable and easy. I just felt that by rectifying these small things the next persons stay would be perfect.
Franco was a very welcoming host who met us from the train at the nearby station. The apartment is only a few minutes walk away (4 and a half to be precise) down a very interesting Palermitani back street.
Entering through a very large front door (mind your head), we had to climb a few flights of stairs to reach our top floor apartment. This was very spacious and clean, although there was a small leak in the bathroom which we soon rectified.
All in all a good stay in a comfortable flat which was in an excellent location, close to the large market (tutti giorni) and all the main sights. We were even able to catch the bus to Monreale from the end of the street.
The restaurant round the corner was excellent - turn left as you leave the building - Al Fondaco del Conte. We came across it by chance and luckily they had had a cancellation.
I stayed with three friends at Franco's apartment in downtown Palermo in early October. Franco met us near the apartment and introduced us to the neighborhood. The apartment itself is spacious and clean; the four of us were very comfortable. We had a great time in Palermo!
This is a lovely two-bedroom, two balcony apartment (email hidden)ly neighbourhood just near the Norman Palace and Duomo. There is a large street food market nearby and all the main sights of Palermo are within walking distance. An excellent place to stay!
Francesco was a really great host. He met us at the station when we arrived and brought us home. The apartment was very clean and comfortable and is in a great location to explore Palermo. Down the street is the popular Ballaro-market with fresh vegetables and fish. You can walk to Palermo's attractions by foot. We had to take a late flight back, but Franesco let us store our luggage in the flat till we went to the airport - although the official check-out was much earlier. We really appriciated this and would definitely recommend this apartment to Palermo-visitors.
Perfect place! Quartier populaire loin des touristes et à la fois très proche des centres d interets....great Time there....
We spent 11 days in Francesco´s apartment. It is exactly as it is in the description and on the pictures. Very cosy and comfortable and if you are visiting with a family, you can cook everything you need. Francesco is a very cordial host and was very attentive to all our questions regarding Palermo. Several places of interest are very close, like a palace, a few churches and an old monastery with the oratoria with the works of G.Serpotto. The famous market Ballaro is also near at the end of the street.
We had a wonderful time at Casa Orleans. The neighborhood is lovely, the apartment is cosy... Francesco was very warm and perfectly suited all our needs. I highly recommend Casa Orleans to anyone looking for an unforgettable vacation in Palermo!
