For $55 per night, you have a double bed in a private room to use. Also, you will share a bathroom, kitchen, common area, with a female occupant. The room isn't empty - you will be staying in a room where you can't use the closets and/or drawers.
I am renting out my roommate's room while he is away for work. Therefore, the closets and drawers cannot be used. I will be asking the renters on AirBnB to respect his things and use the room without moving his items. There is plenty of room to access the bed. His room has two big windows. We have an AC unit, but it isn't in the room. The apartment is usually kept cool. In winter, I will provide plenty of blankets to keep warm.
Guests will have access to a double bed, a full bathroom ( not attached to the room,) free wifi, a full kitchen, and a living room/common room area.
Interaction with Guests
Once you come and stay, I will give you keys so you can come and go freely. I am busy and not available to show you the tourist sites. However, I can help you navigate the transit systems and will help you in any way possible. If you are unsure if my location will be the best for you, email me. I am an honest person and will tell you if I don't think it's a good fit.
Hoboken is across the Hudson River from Manhattan's West side. Depending on the method of transportation, it can take you 20 -45 minutes to get into Manhattan. Hoboken itself is a little residential neighborhood that is safe, and family friendly. There are plenty of coffee shops, restaurants, and supermarkets.
There are buses, two ferries, light rail, and a path train that will get you to/from Manhattan. The Path runs 24 hrs and costs $2.50 per ride. If you have a car, the best thing to do is pay $30 and leave it in a parking lot. There is a safe parking lot 4 blocks from my apartment.
Other Things to Note
There is no smoking, and no visitors are allowed at the apartment. As a world traveler, I understand that lodging can get expensive. I am offering a clean, spacious, quiet space for you to rent.
No excessive drinking
Please be respectful of my space.
Rachel is extremely nice and a good host. The apartment is not close to the PATH station, so getting into Manhattan takes 45 minutes and requires that you either 1) walk a mile, 2) take a bus (the bus stop is several blocks from the house), or 3) grab a taxi at a flat rate of $6, plus the requisite dollar tip, so $7 every time. It's not so much the money (although there's that) but the convenience/hassle factor. Still, a good value if you're not feeling stressed about getting into the city quickly or easily.
Rachel is very nice! She was not in town over the weekend and she asked her friend to welcome us to ensure we are okay with everything.
The room has no window but as it is close to winter we have no problem with that.
There should be a bus stop 2 mins away from the place but as my friend and I (stubbornly) insisted on using Metrocard, we walked back and forth to PATH station everyday, which took 20 minutes per trip.
Although there were some minor issues with the bathroom, the stay generally was good.
My friend Lisa acted on my behalf, because I had to make a last minute trip to Florida. I also let Christina stay in my room because it's larger, and has a full desk, chair and unobstructed space. I emailed Christina explaining the situation, giving her my contact info, and the option to cancel. I heard nothing from her, and got no responses to the few messages I sent her -- so I assumed everything was ok.
Regarding transportation ... you cannot use the New York Metrocard on New Jersey Transit. The PATH is the only NJ system that accepts it. So, yes, if you choose to only use a metro card, you cannot take the 126 bus that is a block from my house, or the other buses that take you to the path train or into NYC's Times Square. You cannot use the two ferries of Hoboken, or the light rail ( that is 5 blocks from my house.) Plus the $5 taxi rides anywhere in Hoboken.
As for the bathroom ... Girl, use the plunger next to the toilet. It works! I came home to water damage, and a bathroom that was a mess! Everyone has their moments, but that $5 cleaning fee isn't even going to cover the ruined bath mat!
I am a host that is there for people. I answer questions, help out when needed, and am always reachable by phone, email, or the Airbnb app. I cannot help guests if they don't communicate with me until after they leave. Best wishes to Christina and I hope she enjoyed her stay. My goal is for everyone to enjoy NYC on a budget and to fall in love with the City like I have!!!!! Safe travels!!!!!
This was a great place to stay! Rachel was incredibly accommodating. We ended up getting tickets to a last minute show in New York and she met us at the terminal and took our bags home with her so we could catch a ride back to NYC! The bed is very comfortable and there's a great feel to the appartment. The bathroom was very clean and we felt very welcomed. I highly recommend staying here.
Rachel was a great host. She met me at the apartment, greeted me with a smile and made me feel right at home. She provided great information on getting the 126 to and from NYC. Comfortable bed, hot water, perfect location. A gem of a find on airbnb. It was my first time using airbnb and I hit the jackpot. Thank you, Rachel.
Rachel was very accommodating and warm. Very clean comfortable and cheerful experience. Location worked perfectly for us. Enjoyed the brief camaraderie. Great for anyone looking to explore NY. Takes less than 15 minutes to Manhattan by PATH. Its a walk to the PATH train station but its worth it.
Rachel was extremely accommodating to my wife and I and was great company for the time we were there. We would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a place to stay in Hoboken.
