The Cottage is a charming Cape Cod-style home on Martha's Vineyard and has two B&B rooms available for single or double occupancy for minimum 2-night stay. Located between Edgartown and Vineyard Haven it is right on the main bus route and bike path connecting you to the ferry or the two town centers. The quiet neighborhood and completely private beautiful cottage garden offer a chance to relax in the hammock after a day of sight-seeing and the large deck is perfect for a glass of wine before going off to dinner or just hanging out, whether for breakfast or during the day and evening. It is minutes away from Sengekontacket Pond where you can launch your kayaks! It is a 15 minute bike ride to State Beach and Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven and the State Forest are easily reachable along the beautiful bike path between my house and the towns, The main bus line runs right past my street! By late June, the gardens are up and blooming -- in 2012, a new butterfly bed has been added! The garden is designed as a haven for a variety of birds (including hummingbirds!) which you can enjoy watching from the deck or hammock. Each year, new additions are made to enhance its tranquillity and beauty. Fresh herbs are grown and used in breakfast dishes. Breakfast with guests is always a treat as interesting conversation spontaneously arises!
Wifi throughout the Cottage is available. Parking is readily available at my home.
Accommodations include TWO SUNNY ROOMS, a ground floor bed/bath with a queen-size bed ($110.00/night). The downstairs bed/bath have been refurbished and updated for guests! Maximum number of guests downstairs is two. The UPSTAIRS TWIN ROOM will accommodate a third person. The spacious upstairs room/twin beds/shared bath ($95.00/night) has a sunny bathroom which is lightly shared with me. A FULL BREAKFAST is included each morning which includes a variety of fruit, juice, homemade breads, specially prepared eggs if desired, and tea/coffee. AND, I HOST IN VENICE, ITALY AS WELL!
The Cottage will close in September this year but come to visit me in Venice, Italy. My beautiful apartment has a comfortable twin room and a lightly shared wonderful newly renovated bathroom available from October 1, 2012. It is centrally located in the heart of the city close to all services and on the beautiful Fondamenta San Felice, close to the spectacular areas of the Miseracordia, Rialto, Ghetto and public transportation -- all within comfortable walking distance. Breakfast is included as at the Cottage (allowing of course, for an Italian twist!). Please visit the listing, "Spectacular Affordable Venice!" for further details and reviews.
You are welcomed to use the sitting room, deck and garden.
Interaction with Guests
Breakfast is the time when we can visit while I serve. I strive to give guests as much privacy as possible when they are in the Cottage.
The Line #1 runs right from the end of my street (a 5 minute walk to the stop!) connecting you directly to the towns of Edgartown, Vineyard Haven (and the Steamship Authority in Vineyard Haven). From both stops, you can connect to buses all of the island. Bike shops are numerous if you prefer to rent by the day or longer. Of course, if you prefer and make your ferry reservation in time, you can travel around by car. You can taxi from the airport, rent a car or take public transportation (transfer to Line #1 required). I'm about 10 minutes from the airport.
Must be over 22 years of age
Maximum 2 persons/room
Please! Don't think us difficult! The Cottage is going green. We do ask that guests help us by limiting shower-time to 10 minutes, especially as it is understandable that you might need to shower twice daily after the beach or other summer sports. Also, all wet items must be hung in the bathrooms or if you prefer, dry your personal towels and wet bathing suits in my clean, aerated basement that features a dehumidier. It molds easily here in an island environment. NO food or drinks (except of course, water!) are absolutely not permitted in guest rooms.
Please! Give me one or two days notice as to when you will be arriving so that I can be here to meet you. It is not recommended that you bike to the Cottage for the first time, from the ferry at night. The entire path is not lighted; buses and taxis do transport bikes -- two per bus on the front bike rack.
We were pleased to stay at this lovely place at the vineyard. Nancy is welcoming and breakfast is perfect. And we were pleased to need to use the outside shower, because there is something about showering under the stars
Nancy Rose was a wonderful host. Although I only stayed a short time in Martha's Vineyard for a wedding, was extremely welcoming. Breakfast was served each day, expertise was shared, and great conversation was had. I couldn't ask for much more for such a short stay. I would come back again. A+
Nancy was a great host. Nancy and her two dogs were there to welcome me into her beautiful, comfortable house. The bedroom was spacious and had a comfy bed. The outdoor shower was also a cool experience. It was a little warm at night, but she provided a fan, and the cool Marthas Vineyard breeze did the rest.
Will hopefully stay again one day soon.
My husband and I love to (email hidden) when we travel. We enjoy meeting and interacting with our hosts. Nan took our experience to a whole new level. She was very responsive when I initially booked the trip and offered to help us with arrangements on the island. From the moment we met her to the moment we had to say goodbye, she was extremely gracious, warm, friendly, and welcoming. We immediately felt like we were welcomed in to her home and as part of her family.
Our room was bright and cheerful and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and a perfect start to the day. We enjoyed talking to our fellow guests and Nan, sharing our adventures of the previous day and making plans for the next.
Nan's home is located in a very quiet neighborhood with very easy access to bus service. The outdoor shower is wonderful especially in the morning when the sun comes up and hits the back of the house.
Our weekend at Martha's Vineyard was one that we will remember and talk about for a long time. We're looking forward to the next time and we will definitely be going back to Nan's place.
great location loved it, so nice !! thank you again for helping us out.made out trip that much better!!
Nancy's house was beautiful, and the outdoor shower was amazing after a long day at the beach. Nancy provided excellent recommendations on places to see and eat. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the breakfasts in the morning were so yummy!
The cottage is set back off the main road just enough to be quiet and peaceful. The walk to the bus stop is about 2-3 minutes, and the walk to downtown Edgartown took us about 30 minutes. There are a few shops around town to rent bicycles, but we enjoyed the walk. We found that most of the island doesn't have street lights, so walking back in the dark can be a little tricky!
All in all, our experience at Nancy's house was wonderful, and we look forward to visiting again!
We came to Martha's Vineyard for a wedding, and I am thrilled we stayed at Nancy's. Her home and garden are beautiful and impeccably kept. She is friendly, helpful, and makes delicious coffee and breakfast. She even helped coordinate transportation to the wedding venue and brunch for us. We had a wonderful weekend away and have Nancy to thank for that. I highly recommend staying here!

Our home on the Vineyard is a special place for guests who wish to enjoy the beauty and vitality of this incredible island. Instead of just 'the playground for the rich and famous," the Vineyard is a microcosm of America -- its strengths and weaknesses. Come and be a part of it! Until 2011, I hosted international students through my project. But, having enjoyed the guests who brought the world to my doorstep since 2010, I am now only hosting Airbnb guests as I enter my 5th year of hosting. And now, I'm able to share my beautiful home in an historic area of Venice with you! Please visit Spectacular Affordable Venice! Please come to this magical, historically significant city!
