Beautiful Martha's Vineyard for You

Bed & Breakfast - Private room · Pilgrim Rd, Edgartown, MA 02539, United States

The Space

My home is the perfect spot for people who come to enjoy the beaches, towns and biking afforded by the Vineyard.

The Cottage is a charming Cape Cod-style home on Martha's Vineyard and has two B&B rooms available for single or double occupancy for minimum 2-night stay. Located between Edgartown and Vineyard Haven it is right on the main bus route and bike path connecting you to the ferry or the two town centers. The quiet neighborhood and completely private beautiful cottage garden offer a chance to relax in the hammock after a day of sight-seeing and the large deck is perfect for a glass of wine before going off to dinner or just hanging out, whether for breakfast or during the day and evening. It is minutes away from Sengekontacket Pond where you can launch your kayaks! It is a 15 minute bike ride to State Beach and Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven and the State Forest are easily reachable along the beautiful bike path between my house and the towns, The main bus line runs right past my street! By late June, the gardens are up and blooming -- in 2012, a new butterfly bed has been added! The garden is designed as a haven for a variety of birds (including hummingbirds!) which you can enjoy watching from the deck or hammock. Each year, new additions are made to enhance its tranquillity and beauty. Fresh herbs are grown and used in breakfast dishes. Breakfast with guests is always a treat as interesting conversation spontaneously arises!

Wifi throughout the Cottage is available. Parking is readily available at my home.

Accommodations include TWO SUNNY ROOMS, a ground floor bed/bath with a queen-size bed ($110.00/night). The downstairs bed/bath have been refurbished and updated for guests! Maximum number of guests downstairs is two. The UPSTAIRS TWIN ROOM will accommodate a third person. The spacious upstairs room/twin beds/shared bath ($95.00/night) has a sunny bathroom which is lightly shared with me. THE COTTAGE IS PERFECTLY MAINTAINED with daily cleaning and beds prepared at each change-over with freshly ironed sheets. A FULL BREAKFAST is included each morning which includes a variety of fruit, juice, homemade breads, specially prepared eggs if desired, and tea/coffee. WIRELESS INTERNET AND AMPLE PARKING ARE INCLUDED. And, don't forget to try the fully-enclosed hot/cold water outdoor shower, a Vineyard tradition! It features hot and cold water and is fully stocked for your convenience with body washes and shampoo.

Check-in: from 2:00 p.m.
Check-out: 10.30 a.m.

Please note that the kitchen is not opened for cooking but certainly, you can leave drinks or snacks in the 'fridge!

Please note that you must be 22 years or older to book. Beginning in 2013, I'm unable to host children under 14 years of age. I do receive requests throughout the season to host pets. I'm sorry. I have two dogs already in my home and cannot receive guests' dogs as well. Two night stay is requested.

The Cottage will close in September this year but come to visit me in Venice, Italy. My beautiful apartment has a comfortable twin room and a lightly shared wonderful newly renovated bathroom available from October 1, 2012. It is centrally located in the heart of the city close to all services and on the beautiful Fondamenta San Felice, close to the spectacular areas of the Miseracordia, Rialto, Ghetto and public transportation -- all within comfortable walking distance. Breakfast is included as at the Cottage (allowing of course, for an Italian twist!). Please visit the listing, "Spectacular Affordable Venice!" for further details and reviews.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • This was exactly what we wanted. A beautiful little spot half way between Edgartown and Oak Bluffs; we couldn't have been more at ease. Nancy was an engaging hostess whose curiosity was nicely balanced by suggestions on where to go to enjoy some private time. She went out of her way, not only with breakfast and suggestions, but even sent my watch back to me after I clumsily left it behind. A great place to stay.

  • We had an amazing stay with Nancy in her lovely home on Martha's Vineyard! The accommodations were very clean and comfortable!
Nancy's breakfasts were delicious and nutritious. The garden was stunning and we especially enjoyed the outdoor shower!!
Nancy was a charming hostess and very helpful with good recommendations for restaurants, best beach locations, etc.
This was our first time using Airbnb and from our point of view a real success! We plan to return to the vineyard and hope to stay with Nancy again! We dream about returning to Venice and staying with Nancy at her bnb there as well!!!

  • Nancy is a very personable hostess and her house was a very comfortable place to stay, conveniently located to many of the local towns. She serves an excellent breakfast and it was a very quiet place to rest and sleep. We enjoyed our morning conversations!

  • My boyfriend and I stayed at Nancy's house for three nights in August. The house is very well maintained, clean & comfortable. The location is perfect! Nancy is a very warm welcoming host and she cooks a great breakfast!
It is always a good idea to read the advertisement on the website, description of the house and the host's rules to make sure it the expectations are met. The house was exactly what we were looking for and we had a wonderful time.

I would gladly recommend it to my friends.

  • As noted in Nancy's review, we encountered a stressful situation during our stay. We were awake most of the night for a few reasons: sick from prior night's food in Edgartown, noisy roosters in the neighborhood throughout the night, and banging on the house door in the middle of the night. Nancy offered no empathy and stuck by her check-out time of 10:30am. We requested a 11am check-out due to the sleepless night, which was granted by her daughter, but we were promptly kicked out of our room at 10:40am by Nancy. I understand that she had every right to do this per the check-out time, just don't expect any flexibility or empathy during your stay. I cleared our belongings from our room by 10:40am, but this was not good enough. I ended up in the back yard in my pajamas, with Nancy insisting on calling me a cab because we needed to get out. At 10:45am, I respectfully asked if I could use the bath towel we were given at check-in to use the outdoor shower, but Nancy said NO. I had to dry off with a dirty tshirt and walk around her yard with barely any covering, get dressed on the lawn, and we were on our way by 11am. Also, a few more warnings on what to expect: 1. Upon check-in, we were told we should not use the indoor bathroom to shower (due to humidity), only the outdoor shower on the deck, which should have been disclosed prior to booking. 2. The room was acceptable; however, if you are sensitive to smells, please note that the house and our room had an "animal" smell (and I love animals!). 3. The house is not close to the center of town...5 minute walk to the bus, which only comes every 20-30 minutes. 4. The included breakfast is only offered at 8:30am 5. The neighborhood is not the cute and quaint ambiance you might expect to find in Edgartown.

    Response from Nancy Rose:

Jennifer. . I am so sorry about your unhappy experience. I tried to be fair to you since you were clearly distressed, expressing, "This vacation is terrible and not what I expected." I expressed my sympathy when you explained you had been ill and said that of course, you could use your towel as you were heading to the outdoor shower. There was no reason for you to use a dirty t-shirt. I think that because you were crying, being upset that perhaps, you did not hear me. Also, people are not prohibited from using indoor showers -- most people, even if initially hesitant, love using it as noted in reviews. It is private and enclosed with space to undress and dress in it, as people regularly do. I also offered to call a taxi for you so that you would not have to take the bus since I was concerned you were not feeling well. I appreciated that you texted me that you were not going to have breakfast but you never indicated you were ill and so, I assumed you would sleep in and leave as indicated. I am not responsible for my neighbors' roosters which can crow occasionally beginning at about 6.30 -- people have not oomplained since my home is quiet and serene by most accounts and certainly, I try to be as helpful as possible when there are difficulties.Other guests had to wake me up around midnight as I live in a garden setting and they were concerned about a baby skunk close to the door. They wanted my assistance entering. We tried to be as quiet as possible. It's unclear to me what could smell in my room -- my dogs do not visit guest rooms and they are the only animals on the premises. (website hidden) maps, an app that most people use as well as the website, show where my home is located. Certainly, with the number of listings directly in Edgartown, you would have been able to choose another setting if that was of concern to you.

I understand that you might have viewed my comment negatively; I did not have any experience with you other than a quick check-in and the morning which seemed quite unsettled for you and your friend and was uncomfortable for me. I thought it was best to leave you quietly after making the offer to call a cab so that you could have your privacy. As noted, I still continue to wish you all the best.

  • My stay at Nancy's was great. Her house is ideally located between Vineyard Haven and Edgartown so you can check out both places easily with the #1 bus. Sengekontacket Pond is right behind her house so I was able to paddle board across the pond to State Beach for a swim in the ocean. Her breakfast was delicious and the coffee she made was very good (strong, just the way I like it). I would highly recommend staying and look forward to visiting again.

  • We had a wonderful stay with Nancy. She was able to accommodate our early arrival and share bits and pieces about the local. We only stayed one night, but would be very comfortable for an extended stay. The bus service worked great and a cheap way to travel around the island. Thank you Nancy for a wonderful memorable stay. The outside shower was definitely a MUST do experience. So amazing -- i was leaning toward my traditional shower, but so glad i opted for the outside experience. I want one at home now! Beautiful accommodations and host. If I ever travel to Venice, I will be sure to check out your accommodations over there. Thank you!
