About this listing

The Cottage is located about 2 1/2 miles from the center of Edgartown but conveniently located between the three towns of Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. Located right on Line #1, the main bus line. My neighborhood is quiet -- a mix of local small homes and new, elegant homes -- a taste of the Vineyard today!

If you love walking, biking -- trails abound by the Cottage. Kayaking is a few minute away if you bring your own or right across Sengekontacket Pond if you want to rent!

Please note that beginning in 2016 I will have only one room available on a limited basis for guests. I have had over 900 guests through my home and have enjoyed meeting so many! I will be hosting on a limited basis in my beautiful new home in Venice, Italy right in the heart of the city. Please contact me through "Beautiful Martha's Vineyard for You!" for further details.

I want you to be comfortable and safe during your stay but please note that I am not a professional setting and provide simple amenities. Kindly make sure that my home provides for you, the space that fits your needs.

My home is the perfect spot for people who come to enjoy the beaches, towns and biking afforded by the Vineyard.

Please note:
I am unable to host children under 14 years of age

There is a two-night minimum.

The Cottage is a charming Cape Cod-style home on Martha's Vineyard and has one bedroom (queen-sized bed) available for single or double occupancy for minimum 2-night stay. Located between Edgartown and Vineyard Haven it is right on the main bus route and bike path connecting you to the ferry or the two town centers. The quiet neighborhood and completely private beautiful cottage garden offer a chance to relax in the hammock after a day of sight-seeing and the large deck is perfect for a glass of wine before going off to dinner or just hanging out, whether for breakfast or during the day and evening. It is minutes away from Sengenkontacket Pond where you can launch your kayaks! It is a 15 minute bike ride to State Beach and Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven and the State Forest are easily reachable along the beautiful bike path between my house and the towns, The main bus line runs right past my street! By late June, the gardens are up and blooming! The garden is designed as a haven for a variety of birds (including hummingbirds!) which you can enjoy watching from the deck or hammock. Each year, new additions are made to enhance its tranquillity and beauty. Breakfast with guests is always a treat as interesting conversation spontaneously arises!

Wifi throughout the Cottage is available. Parking is readily available at my home.

The guest room and bath are a comfortable, sunny downstairs space for two guests (maximum). THE COTTAGE IS PERFECTLY MAINTAINED with daily cleaning and beds prepared with freshly ironed sheets prior to your arrival. A FULL BREAKFAST is included each morning which includes a variety of fruit, juice, homemade breads, eggs if desired, and tea/coffee. WIRELESS INTERNET, AIR CONDITIONED BEDROOM AND AMPLE PARKING ARE INCLUDED. Weather permitting, guest are asked to use the fully-enclosed hot/cold water outdoor shower, a Vineyard tradition! It features hot and cold water and is fully stocked for your convenience with body washes and shampoo.

Check-in: from 2:00 p.m.
Check-out: 10.30 a.m.

Please note that the kitchen is not opened for cooking but certainly, you can leave a few drinks or snacks in the 'fridge! Guests are asked not to fully stock the refrigerator!

Please note that you must be 22 years or older to book. I am unable to host children under 14 or family pets. Two night stay is requested.

I do not recommend my location for guests with mobility issues unless you have a car. As noted the bus stop is a 5 minute walk from my home and from there, you can travel directly into Edgartown or Vineyard Haven on Line #1.

Guest Access

You are welcomed to use the sitting room, deck and garden.

Interaction with Guests

Breakfast is the time when we can visit while I serve. I strive to give guests as much privacy as possible when they are in the Cottage.

Getting Around

The Line #1 runs right from the end of my street (a 5 minute walk to the stop!) connecting you directly to the towns of Edgartown, Vineyard Haven (and the Steamship Authority in Vineyard Haven). From both stops, you can connect to buses all of the island. Bike shops are numerous if you prefer to rent by the day or longer. Of course, if you prefer and make your ferry reservation in time, you can travel around by car. You can taxi from the airport, rent a car or take public transportation (transfer to Line #1 required). I'm about 10 minutes from the airport.

Other Things to Note

As the Vineyard has suffered the stresses and strains of a busy tourist island, we do strive to be ecologically minded. Septic systems have caused significant lagoon pollution and so we do shower outdoors as noted.

But! if my home suits your needs, you are surrounded by Land Bank and Sheriff's Meadows Trustees walks, a place to launch your kayak onto Sengekontacket Pond (5 minutes down the road by car) and a tranquil, private spot to relax!

I do ask guests to be respectful of furnishings. Having hosted so many people, I want to make sure that everything is in beautiful order as well for you!

House Rules
Check-in is after 2PM

Must be over 22 years of age
No Smoking on the premises
No Pets
Maximum 2 persons/room

Please! Don't think us difficult! The Cottage is going green. We do ask that guests help us by limiting shower-time to 10 minutes, especially as it is understandable that you might need to shower twice daily after the beach or other summer sports. Also, all wet items must be hung in the bathrooms or if you prefer, dry your personal towels and wet bathing suits in my clean, aerated basement that features a dehumidier. It molds easily here in an island environment. NO food or drinks (except of course, water!) are absolutely not permitted in guest rooms.

Please! Give me one or two days notice as to when you will be arriving so that I can be here to meet you. It is not recommended that you bike to the Cottage for the first time, from the ferry at night. The entire path is not lighted; buses and taxis do transport bikes -- two per bus on the front bike rack.

I am an American-trained speech/language pathologist who worked for many years as a specialist for hard-to-diagnose learning disabled children in New York. Currently,I am the creator and director of Inglese Dinamico, an English teaching project located in Venice, Italy and President and co-founder of Partnerships for Learning and Teaching (non-profit), an educational project dedicated to research and development of best teaching practices with special emphasis on challenged learners and dyslexia and also cross-cultural/multi-lingual integration across multiple subjects. Begun in 2012, I am spear-heading a project, The Collaborative Learning Center Initiative, Venice, Italy, to bring private funds, social activism and educational practices together to provide a dynamic learning community for privileged and disenfranchised children and adults. Visit the to learn more about my work. The project is developing "The Generation Rising" -- young, Italians who are learning the value of social activism and community organizing as they strive to use a global language to be a part of a global community.

Our home on the Vineyard is a special place for guests who wish to enjoy the beauty and vitality of this incredible island. Instead of just 'the playground for the rich and famous," the Vineyard is a microcosm of America -- its strengths and weaknesses. Come and be a part of it! Until 2011, I hosted international students through my project. But, having enjoyed the guests who brought the world to my doorstep since 2010, I am now only hosting Airbnb guests as I enter my 7th year of hosting and have had the pleasure of over 900 visitors, some who have been kind enough to come several years in a row!
