The Cottage is a charming Cape Cod-style home on Martha's Vineyard and has two B&B rooms available for single or double occupancy for minimum 2-night stay. Located between Edgartown and Vineyard Haven it is right on the main bus route and bike path connecting you to the ferry or the two town centers. The quiet neighborhood and completely private beautiful cottage garden offer a chance to relax in the hammock after a day of sight-seeing and the large deck is perfect for a glass of wine before going off to dinner or just hanging out, whether for breakfast or during the day and evening. It is minutes away from Sengekontacket Pond where you can launch your kayaks! It is a 15 minute bike ride to State Beach and Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven and the State Forest are easily reachable along the beautiful bike path between my house and the towns, The main bus line runs right past my street! By late June, the gardens are up and blooming -- in 2012, a new butterfly bed has been added! The garden is designed as a haven for a variety of birds (including hummingbirds!) which you can enjoy watching from the deck or hammock. Each year, new additions are made to enhance its tranquillity and beauty. Fresh herbs are grown and used in breakfast dishes. Breakfast with guests is always a treat as interesting conversation spontaneously arises!
Wifi throughout the Cottage is available. Parking is readily available at my home.
Accommodations include TWO SUNNY ROOMS, a ground floor bed/bath with a queen-size bed ($110.00/night). The downstairs bed/bath have been refurbished and updated for guests! The spacious upstairs room/twin beds/shared bath ($95.00/night) has a sunny bathroom which is lightly shared with me. THE COTTAGE WILL REMAIN OPEN THROUGH SEPTEMBER 10, 2014. IT WILL CLOSE FOR THE SEASON AFTER THIS DATE.
AND, I HOST IN VENICE, ITALY AS WELL!
The Cottage will close in September this year but come to visit me in Venice, Italy. My beautiful apartment has a comfortable twin room and a lightly shared wonderful newly renovated bathroom available from October 1, 2012. It is centrally located in the heart of the city close to all services and on the beautiful Fondamenta San Felice, close to the spectacular areas of the Miseracordia, Rialto, Ghetto and public transportation -- all within comfortable walking distance. Breakfast is included as at the Cottage (allowing of course, for an Italian twist!). Please visit the listing, "Spectacular Affordable Venice!" for further details and reviews.
You are welcomed to use the sitting room, deck and garden.
Interaction with Guests
Breakfast is the time when we can visit while I serve. I strive to give guests as much privacy as possible when they are in the Cottage.
The Line #1 runs right from the end of my street (a 5 minute walk to the stop!) connecting you directly to the towns of Edgartown, Vineyard Haven (and the Steamship Authority in Vineyard Haven). From both stops, you can connect to buses all of the island. Bike shops are numerous if you prefer to rent by the day or longer. Of course, if you prefer and make your ferry reservation in time, you can travel around by car. You can taxi from the airport, rent a car or take public transportation (transfer to Line #1 required). I'm about 10 minutes from the airport.
Must be over 22 years of age
Maximum 2 persons/room
Please! Don't think us difficult! The Cottage is going green. We do ask that guests help us by limiting shower-time to 10 minutes, especially as it is understandable that you might need to shower twice daily after the beach or other summer sports. Also, all wet items must be hung in the bathrooms or if you prefer, dry your personal towels and wet bathing suits in my clean, aerated basement that features a dehumidier. It molds easily here in an island environment. NO food or drinks (except of course, water!) are absolutely not permitted in guest rooms.
Please! Give me one or two days notice as to when you will be arriving so that I can be here to meet you. It is not recommended that you bike to the Cottage for the first time, from the ferry at night. The entire path is not lighted; buses and taxis do transport bikes -- two per bus on the front bike rack.
A quaint cottage-style home about 2.5 miles outside Main Street in Edgartown. While the home is set back from restaurants and shops, the proximity to the bus station makes it relatively easy to explore nearby Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. We enjoyed getting acquainted with the bus system and using our bikes to travel around the island. Nancy encourages guests to use her outdoor shower. We preferred to shower indoors, but the outdoor shower offers a nice change of pace for those seeking an authentic vineyard experience.
Nancy's home was perfect for our Vineyard stay! The home was just as described, the bedroom was well fitted and very comfortable with a bathroom right next door. The outdoor shower was awesome, a quintessential Vineyard experience. The grounds were beautiful with a large patio out back with chairs, table, and a very relaxing hammock.
Upon arrival, Nancy greeted us with a warm hello and smile. She quickly showed us around and explained the few policies of her property. Everything was well labeled and she even provided her Wifi password. The home was very quiet and we came and went as we pleased. In the morning, she offered us a breakfast of yogurt, fresh fruit, homemade muffins, and coffee - all of which was delicious!
We enjoyed chatting with Nancy about her experiences with schools in Venice and her other worldly experiences. All very interesting!
The house was located just a quick (under 5 minute) walk to the #1 bus route which is an under 10 minute ride to Edgartown. We also used uber to get around which is about a $10 ride to Edgartown
I highly recommend this property for anyone interested in a home stay on the Vineyard. Thanks again Nancy!
Nancy made me feel very special by being at the back door to greet me as I came up her driveway with a big smile and a cheering hello.
We had a great stay at this beautiful house. The garden was very well kept, the outside shower was a fun experience and the room was clean and comfortable. Nancy was very friendly with us and she even did our laundry! We will definitely come back to this place.
Your stay at Nancy's was perfect, we had a wonderful week-end. Nancy is a very nice host and make awesome blueberry muffins !
I would also recommend the outdoor shower, it's very nice !
This is a place with a comfortable bed and a lovely outside setting. I suggest it is best to arrive by taxi, as I think we would have had some difficulties if we had tried to use buses from the airport. We also ended up getting a hire car as our stay was only two days and we felt this did not allow enough time to see the Island by bus. The hire car option was great. Nancy's place is out of Edgartown and so takes some organisation with the bus system....however, buses pass her street frequently and drivers are helpful with stopping at the right place. I loved the outside shower, but I can see others may be disconcerted. We were a bit overwhelmed by Nancy's "rules".
Oh dear Don! It seems as if you did not enjoy your stay with me and for that I apologize! I'm not sure what made it difficult in terms of 'rules' and so, it is hard to respond specifically but again, having thought all was comfortable and good with you, I am sorry to see how disappointed you were at the Cottage! Forgive me! People are always welcomed to shower indoors and just to have a 'Vineyard" experience, which all love as you did we do encourage using it, so again, I'm not sure how it is disconcerting as there are bathroom showers. Many hosts do ask guests not to shower too late at night as a courtesy to others. Again, pleasant journeys and disappointed you did not enjoy your stay more since I had no indication at the time you were here! All best wishes.
My husband and I spent two nights at Nancy Rose's Airbnb. Our room had a comfortable bed and sitting area. The private bathroom facilities were right next to our bedroom.
Each morning Nancy prepared a delicious breakfast including hot coffee and tea, fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, homemade banana bread, and blueberry coffeecake. Nancy's home has a lovely deck overlooking beautiful flower beds. It's a perfect spot to unwind after a day at the beach, shopping or biking.
I feel that Nancy Rose is a very gracious hostess. She kindly offers to make reservations for her guests, has suggestions of
sights to see, things to do on the island, and recommends wonderful restaurants in the area.
The Airbnb is conveniently located a short walk to the bus route. This made our stay with Nancy Rose even better, as we preferred to leave our car on the mainland, and chose to use public transportation.
We definitely would recommend Nancy Rose's Airbnb to Martha's Vineyard visitors. The location, comfortable accommodations, Nancy's helpfulness, and the delicious breakfast to start our day were all reasons to return to, and suggest to others looking into Airbnb on Martha's Vineyard, that they should contact Nancy Rose.

Our home on the Vineyard is a special place for guests who wish to enjoy the beauty and vitality of this incredible island. Instead of just 'the playground for the rich and famous," the Vineyard is a microcosm of America -- its strengths and weaknesses. Come and be a part of it! Until 2011, I hosted international students through my project. But, having enjoyed the guests who brought the world to my doorstep since 2010, I am now only hosting Airbnb guests as I enter my 5th year of hosting. And now, I'm able to share my beautiful home in an historic area of Venice with you! Please visit Spectacular Affordable Venice! Please come to this magical, historically significant city!
