Where you’ll be

Barrys Reef, Victoria, Australia

The Barrys Reef is a town near Blackwood and Trentham. The local story of the origin of Barrys Reef refers to a man who was exiled from the town of Blackwood after a drunken brawl so he started walking to find a suitable place to live. After an hour of walking northwards away from Blackwood, the man found gold in the area and set up camp eventually building a house. Later on in the gold rush days Barry's Reef grew in size and at one stage had six hotels. After the gold rush the town eventually started to dwindle in population and was usually mistaken for North Blackwood. Nowadays the local people usually use the towns name as an excuse for not living in surrounding bush, townships and local area is full of history from gold prospecting to timber industry and now tourism. With places like Garden of St Earth five minutes away, Blackwood mineral springs and historical pub. Trentham falls , Cosmopolitan Hotel, The Plough @ Trentham - hotel and Artist abound destinations.

I am self employed, whereby I work in a variety of areas. Being a carpenter by trade with 30 odd years of experience in the industry and recently did a cert 4 in disability. Getting enough work has been fairly easy. My biggest expense these days are my 6 horses. Two brumbies, one quarter horse cross and three others. My partner Wally is an excellent horseman and we are both keen gardeners and bush lovers. I decided to leave the full time work force and live the country life with horses and enough work to pay the bills. So far so good.
